Chapter 21: Trust

You knew what was coming up next, and you didn't want to be a part of this.

Now was the time, everyone was distracted by the new visitor so you quietly grabbed your already packed backpack and left your bedroom. You passed by the kitchen to get a snack for the road, you knew hunk always prepared some just in case.

As you went to the fridge, you noticed that the drawing you made 'when you were little' was still on it. You smiled sadly and brought your attention back to the task at hand.

Once that was done, you carefully and quietly made your way to the escape pods.

There was no turning back now. You opened the pod and hauled your bag behind the pilot seat. You made your way inside and turned on the pod, it beeped to life and the black screen turned translucent only to reveal Shiro standing in front with his arms crossed over his chest.

"And where do you think you're going?" He asked like a father finding out his daughter was running away, which was basically the same thing. "We're about to interrogate Lotor."

"Damn it, Shiro..." You muttered under your breath. You sigh in defeat and exited the pod.

"Why are you leaving in such a hurry?" He asked you, concerned if something was wrong.

"I just...thought that since I'm fully recovered and you guys got what you needed, now is the time to head back to the blade." You didn't sound very convincing.

"I thought you weren't going to leave yet, what's going on?" You groaned in frustration at the fact that you didn't know how to explain yourself. "Is it because of Lotor?" You looked at the ground in response.

"So it is about him. What's wrong? Are you...afraid of him? Because you know he's locked up and-"

"That's not it." You interrupted. You grabbed your left arm as you tried to find a way to let the words come out.

"Then what is it Y/n? I want to help you." He said sincerely with a step forward as his eyebrows furrowed in worry.

"It's nothing," You said without making any eye contact with him whatsoever. "Fine, I'll go watch the interrogation." You walked by him with your bag at hand and without saying another word and made your way to meet up with the others after you put back your bag.

It was time to face him.

"Alright, speak." Allura spat. She stood confidently in front of Lotor who was kneeling on the ground with his hands cuffed and on top of his lap.

"What are you planning?" Shiro added standing next to Allura while you and the others were in another room with a one-way mirror, letting you all see and hear what was going on.

"I simply think that the way my father is leading his people is wrong and I do not wish for such violence. I am only trying to bring peace." He said as formally as ever.

"And why should trust what you have to say?" Allura asked, not really believing him.

"I plan to turn the Galra race against my father and have them form an alliance, with all of you." Allura kept an angered expression on her face.

"And why would you want to work with us?" Shiro asked calmly even though he was surprised to hear about Lotor wanting to work together.

"When everyone hears that we are working as one, they will see that my intentions are true."

"I say we talk about this with the group," Shiro said to Allura while placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Alright. We will continue this conversation later." And with that, they both turned away and headed for the door.

"Wait!" Lotor said while standing up.

"What?" Allura glared.

"I know the others are hearing our conversation." He stated firmly.

"So what?" She spat.

"I also know you have an...extra Paladin." Shiro and Allura's eyes widened slightly.

You watched in horror, not wanting Lotor to say anything else. Hunk, Pidge Lance, and Keith watched you carefully from the corners of their eyes.

"I want to know where she is." He demanded.

"You are in no position to be ask-"

"Where is she! Where's Y/n!" He shouted losing his patience. Allura went wide-eyed along with everyone else. You balled your hands in a fist and before anyone could say a word, you bolted out of the room and went into the interrogation room.

You didn't think twice once you step foot in the room and ran forward to punch Lotor in the face.

"What the hell do you want with me now?!" You yelled. The others pooled into the room and watching in shock as the events unfolded.

"Y-Y/n..." He breathed seeing you panting in anger in front of him.

"Well!" You shouted once again. Lotor could only look at you with an expression the others have never seen.

Kind and caring.

"I'm so glad you're alright." You snapped and swung your right foot towards his side and heard the loud impact as he tumbled to the ground.

"What do you care!" You shouted; words laced with venom.

"Y-Y/n, I know we parted on bad terms but, I wanted to come clean," Lotor said honestly looking like he regretted what happened so long ago.

"Parted on bad terms?! You left me with that witch and you're the reason I'm a billion miles away from Earth!" You took another swing at him at the last word, punching him in the gut. You noticed that he didn't try to defend himself or even fight back.

"Please, I want to make things right, I never meant to-" You interrupted him.

"I don't want to listen to a single word you say. You say you saved me but you actually took my life away, I'll never forgive you for that." You said through gritted teeth.

"I know and I'm sorry for keeping so many secrets from you but I just couldn't bring myself to tell you the truth." Lotor stood up and took a shaky step forward only to have everyone take a defensive position and Keith was immediately at your side along with Lance.

"Listen, Y/n, I-" You turned away and started making your way out of the room. "Your parents told me to take care of you!" You stopped in your tracks.

"What?" Your voice came out like a warning.

"I took you away from Earth because you were threatened to be killed because you knew me." He admitted.

"What are you talking about?" You turned and became intrigued about what happened in the past. Everyone else gave each other questioning looks but listened nonetheless.

"That day I visited Earth for my research, I met you and your parents by the shoreline and they were so kind and welcoming, something I wasn't expecting. We became good friends and you were also very sweet. But then came the day a friend or a neighbor of yours spotted me, you were in school when this happened, and they threatened me, they took out weapons and they tried to kill me but instead your parents..." He let out a sigh and a grief-stricken look.

"They protected me and ended up... They perished that day and asked me to watch over you. I didn't know what to do so all could think of was taking you back with me since I knew you would be in danger if I left you there." You could feel yourself hyperventilating as your hands shook in anger.

"I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before." His eyes held so much emotion that you knew it was impossible for someone to fake that. But you still couldn't wrap your head around what he was telling you. You shook your head in denial and pushed everyone out of the way.

You needed to leave.

Now.

You were glad you left the pod working. You ran as fast as your legs could carry you.

"Y/n!" You could hear Lance's voice in the distance. You ignored it and kept running. For some reason, the halls seemed endless and your destination seemed so far away.

I need to getaway.

You thought as you kept going but you were already panting for air and stumbling. It was just like before, all you ever did was run away. How was that going to help anyone?

You started to realize that right now you didn't need to disappear, you needed some time to think, to get your thoughts sorted out. So you decided to head back towards your room.

Once you got there, you burst through the doors, let them shut behind you, took a deep breath and-

"AHHHH!" You yelled out in frustration. You were blinded by your anger, couldn't hold back anymore and got a hold of the first thing that was close enough to you and threw it against the wall, with a loud crash it fell to the floor.

There goes your mirror.

But that wasn't enough, you got your nightstand and threw it across the room, letting the broken wood decorate your floor with splinters. "Why now!" You yelled throwing your pillow.

"Why NOW!" You took your bag and threw it as well, but something tumbled out of it and you stopped your rampaging for a moment to notice it was your stuffed Red Lion. You walked over to it, not really caring about the shatters of glass and wood scraping the sole of your shoes.

You kneeled down and picked it up off the ground, you dusted it off a bit before you looked into its black button eyes.

Ignorance is bliss.

You held it close to your chest and sighed.

"Everything was so much better when I didn't have to care about things like this, why couldn't I just have stayed on Earth?" You leaned on the wall beside you and started to silently cry. "I never asked for this; for any of this."

"Then why don't you let us help you?" You gasped and looked towards the door seeing Keith standing there with a sad look on his face. You quickly wiped away your tears with the sleeve of your jacket and looked away unable to speak, if not, you were sure you would burst into tears.

"You still have that?" He asked as he walked over to you, closing the door behind him. You didn't respond and simply sat there. Keith understood the fact that you weren't ready to talk yet so he moved aside the things that were scattered on the ground with his foot and sat next to you and gave you a side hug.

"I know it's hard and I'm not gonna lie to you, it's probably gonna get worse." He said with a sad chuckle. He shifted his weight to get into a more comfortable position.

"But eventually it's gonna get better, and until then, you've got us to help you out all the way through. You're not alone in this Y/n, it's not weak to ask for help, in fact, it's incredibly brave." He caressed your head and gave your arm a reassuring squeeze.

"No one's gonna abandon you." Was his final say in the one-sided conversation. You two sat there as you let your tears silently fall with the occasional sniff now and then.

The moment wasn't awkward if anything it was...

comforting.

Just a having a moment to calm your nerves and breath. Your tears slowly came to a stop leaving stains that you would have to wash off later.

"Thanks." You managed to whisper. Keith gently lifted his eyebrows when he heard you speak.

"Anything for you." Was all he responded while pulling you closer to him if that were possible. Soon enough you tired yourself out and fell asleep. Keith took the chance to clear your bed and carry you to it.

He noticed the shards that were stuck to your hands and decided to tend to your wounds before they could get worse.

All bandaged up, Keith got your covers and gently placed them on top of you.

"Night." Was all he said before leaving your room without a second glance.
