Chapter 10: Fight!
Today was the day.
You knew what the Paladins were going to do.
And it terrified you.
You looked at everyone with pleading eyes. "Do you have to go?" You asked, feeling the tears sting your eyes.
"Trust me I don't want to go either." Answered Hunk. Pidge elbowed him in his side to make him shut up and not make things worse.
"It's just like any other battle, don't worry Y/n." Shiro said trying to comfort you.
"Yeah, we'll all be back soon, I promise." Keith added with a smile and a pat on your head.
"When we come back, how about we play some video games?" Lance said with a wink. You smiled softly and nodded. Allura suddenly walked in, making the room go quiet.
"It's time." Was all she said. You turn your attention back to the paladins and you rushed to give each one a tight hug and waved goodbye as they walked out of the room.
"Don't worry. Everything will turn out okay, we just have to believe in them." Allura said while placing a gentle hand on your head. You simply nodded.
You had to believe in them, they would defeat the mean people and win. Because the good guys always win right?
"Please head to your room as we talked about last night." Allura kneeled down to be at your height and gave you a hug with a kiss on your forehead. "I'll see you in a while."
"Okay." You gave her one last hug before running off to your room.
You talked about this before with the others. They said it would be best if you stayed in your room, out of harm's way, and that way they don't have to worry much about you. You already had it planned out, you had a bunch of games laid out and tried to distract yourself as much as you could.
They moved the tv to your room and you played one of the many movies Lance picked out for you. Placing one of the movies in, you tried your best to concentrate. Every once in a while you would flinch when you heard an explosion coming from outside the castle.
They're going to be alright. They're going to be alright.
You repeated in your head.
Before you knew it, the movie was over. So you decided to draw or maybe play a board game. And time went on,
And on
And on
And on
And you constantly thought about whether or not the Paladins were safe. "They're strong. And brave." You said out loud to try and convince yourself.
But that's when you noticed that it got calm and quiet for some time. You were curious if they finished.
That fast?
You stood up from the floor and carefully walked over to your door and opened it to poke your head out into the hallway, but there wasn't anyone there. You walked a short distance and peeked into the room where all the controls were. But it was empty.
Are they still on the bridge?
You walked around hesitantly and found yourself lost again. Memories of the last time you got lost came back and you could feel your panic start to rise so you tried to calm yourself as you roamed down the hallways.
Thankfully, some places started to become familiar since the last time you were there. You kept walking and noticed a room with that pool Blue mentioned.
"On the roof?" You said to no one in particular. You shook your head and tried to concentrate on what you were doing. You walked away and kept going down the endless halls.
As you continued, a very large white and blue door suddenly caught your eye. You tilted your head in question and then placed a hand on the door to see if it would open up.
And it started to glow.
~
"How are we doing with the Teludav?" Asked Allura, nervous as to how long they had.
"So far so good." Answered Slav.
"Alright, we're almost in position, let's-"
"Wait!!! What's going on?!?!" Slav shouted. Allura's eyes widened in fear.
"What?! What's wrong?!" She asked, feeling her panic rise.
"Something is draining the energy from the cloaking device!"
"What??" Allura exclaimed.
"It's going to deactivate in a few ticks!"
"Paladins! I need you to get Zarkon's base centered now. We're running out of time!"
"Right!"
~
You watched as the door was glowing but suddenly you felt very light-headed and fell unconscious.
Some time passed and you slowly fluttered your eyes opened. You propped yourself up on your arms and then stood up in a wobbly manner. You rubbed your eyes and realized you were still in the hallways.
You looked around but for some reason, you knew where you had to go. Like something was guiding you. You followed the directions and before you knew it, you were in the lounge and saw the others sitting there.
Your eyes lit up and you rushed over to them.
"Paladins! Paladins!!!" You cried out and leaped into Keith's arms.
But something was off, they weren't as happy as you were. Were they mad at you? Did they know you left your room? You watched them carefully and noticed there was someone missing.
"Daddy?" You asked out loud.
Everyone exchanged grief-stricken expressions. You couldn't understand what it meant. And started to get frustrated and scared.
"Where's daddy??" You asked again but no one answered.
"Y/n. Sweetie..." Allura was the first to speak up. "Come." She opened her arms out towards you. You looked around at the others just in case they wanted to say something but they didn't even spare a glance. Not even Keith.
You then reached out for Allura and she picked you up and walked out of the room.
"Mommy?" You said trying to catch her attention.
"Y/n, there's something important I have to tell you." You just looked at her and listened. "Shiro...Shiro was lost in the battle." Your eyes went wide.
Lost?
As in, gone?
Vanished?
"But we'll do everything we can to find him. Soon." Allura added with determination written on her face.
You shook your head.
Allura furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
You pushed Allura back and tried to squirm out of her grasp.
"Y/n what's wro-."
"Let me go!" You order in your small voice. Allura was surprised and did and you said and put you down.
You then ran back to the lounge and looked towards Keith. You ran up to him and started pounding your little fist on his legs.
"Liar! Liar! Liar!" You shouted as you kept hitting him with all your might.
"Y/n? Wha-" Keith began but you cut him off.
"You promised!!! You promised everyone would come back!!! Liar! Liar!!Liar!!!" You kept shouting as tears started falling down your rosy cheeks.
Keith watched you take out your anger with wide eyes.
You then sat yourself down on the floor and continued your heartbreaking cry. No one said anything to you or tried to help because they thought it would be best if you just let it all out instead of telling you 'everything will be okay'.
After some time of crying you ended up tiring yourself out and you fell asleep. Keith stood up and walked over to you to pick you up and take you to your room.
He held you close as he sauntered down the hallway. Once he reached your room, he was careful not to move you too much, he placed his hand on the door making it open.
When he entered he noticed all of your toys spread out on the floor and carefully pushed them aside as he made his way to your bed. There were a few drawings on your bed and Keith picked them up to put them aside.
He lifted your covers and gently laid you down. He then covered you and brushed away some stray hairs that were in your face. "I'm sorry I didn't keep my promise." He whispered. Keith then decided to start putting away the many toys you left out and once again found the drawing of everyone from before. Keith sighed.
Some hero I am...
He looked back at you but with a newfound determination. He kneeled next to your bed and fixed your covers as you shifted to a more comfortable position. "Don't worry Y/n, I'm going to find him and get him back." He said before kissing your forehead and wiping your tear-stained cheeks.
Keith stood back up and had his mindset.
He was going to search for Shiro.
