Little Freak.

☆ . . . Life was a mess...

      It was never completely simple for anyone. There was always going to be some kind of trauma, some kind of issue, or just something that wasn't perfect. Many liked to think that they could make their lives perfect with fame, riches, hiding their faces in books, or just huddling away alone in a cabin in the middle of the woods. But their problems were always going to catch up with them—always, no matter what.

☆ . . . Nobody was perfect...

      but some liked to think they were. They liked to judge others for things they couldn't control or for how they acted, how they dressed, or what they liked. In today's society, nothing is ever good enough. No one was ever good enough.

☆ . . . Jezebel Lopez knew this all too well...

      She was a little freak. That's what she had heard all her life. You would assume it was because of her lycanthropy, but that wasn't it—no one knew the truth about her or her family. No one knew just how much of a freak she was. But still, they liked to call her one.

      The town's nickname for her never affected her image of herself. She liked being different; she liked that she liked different things than other people; and she liked that she wasn't the cookie-cutter girl that everyone expected her to be.

      So what if she liked to collect dead butterflies? And so what if she liked to go exploring in the woods instead of partying? There was nothing wrong with those things or anything else she liked, but people seemed to think so, and they seemed to think their opinion mattered.

      She was a beloved girl, even if she didn't realize it. Her family, or as they liked to call themselves, "her pack," loved her dearly and would do anything for her, as she would do for them.

      There was this one boy, though. Another werewolf, sort of. He was the son of Derek Hale and was such a delinquent dork.

☆ . . . Eli Hale was obsessed with Jezebel.

      Or at least that's how she saw it. He seemed to be following her wherever she went, whether she was sneaking out of school to go exploring in the woods or simply walking the ghostly streets of Beacon Hills. He was somewhat of a lacrosse player, though he never actually played. And he was an absolute dork—wait, that was already mentioned.

      But Jezebel had to be nice to him, even when she wanted to strangle him. He talked too much; he was too nice; and he was too clumsy. Once again, an absolute dork. But he was technically her friend. She would never admit that aloud, especially not in front of him and his overly analytical mind, but it was the truth. He was actually her only friend.

☆ . . . Eli and Jezebel had a semi-normal life...

      though they sometimes wished it wasn't. Their parents had told them all of the stories of how Beacon Hills used to be, back when Scott McCall, aka their favorite not-actually uncle, was in high school—and actually way before that—but the only actually interesting stories happened during his time at Beacon Hills High.

      They wished that their lives weren't boring and full of overprotective parents. They wished that, but if only they knew what was coming their way. Dead girls who weren't actually dead; the Nogitsune who was trying to kill them with the help of Onis; and transformations, like actual transformations.

      Oh, yes, and love. Love—such a repulsive concept... Note the sarcasm.

      Jezebel Lopez was the little freak of Beacon Hills, and Eli Hale was her delinquent dork sidekick. And they loved it that way, and nothing was going to change that. Well...nevermind.
