The Arrival of a Princess

After the ultrasound,
The doc said everything's fit and sound
But still, it will take a week or two
For our little baby to be around.

At home, we sat estimating
The time of baby's arrival
Hospital bag already set
We were waiting just for a signal

But instead of waiting for a week,
The baby had its own plans
That afternoon itself,
Towards the hospital, we ran.

Lunch had been prepared,
Plates had been set
And suddenly I felt
Everything around me wet

After a few confusing minutes,
It sank in that my water had broke
A quick prayer to the Almighty
And off we went, at 2 O'Clock.

Nervousness, fear, tension, pain
Everything came all at once
And I found myself shivering slightly
Praying for the safety of my little one.

All that I had heard or learnt
To prepare myself for my delivery day
Everything was forgotten
When actually arrived the day.

Two hours of indescribable pain
And the doctor came in to see
Shock was written all over her face
As to the Operation Theatre she flee

Immediately I was rushed to the OT
Where I saw everyone running here or there
Everyone doing this or doing that,
Forgot my pain seeing the commotion there.

'It would be our fastest delivery',
The doctor and nurses were ecstatic
I won't suffer for hours and hours
Deep in my heart, even I was delighted.

And then, when I was told to push,
I complied with all my strength
'One more, just one more,"
Medical team gave encouragement.

And then, a few more pushes later,
I heard a cry so sweet and delicate
Listening to which, relief flooded through me
Followed by a blast of excitement.

'A Princess' has arrived, gushed the doc
And handed me my little sweetheart.
Seeing her for the very first time,
A thousand blessings showered my heart.
