Prologue
How can just 20 minutes change your life...?
How could someone change so drastically in less than an hour, how could they change their entire life so drastically, yet so quickly. Yu Nakahara found a way to do that, with just finding a doll in the forest nearby the apartment building he lived in at 8:10 in the evening. His finding was a bit filthy, and cracked from the many years it's been kept there. Quickly, he ran home with the doll cradled in his arms. He was careful not to drop it as he climbed up the stairs and rushed inside. As soon as he closed the door behind him, he carefully placed the doll down on the sofa before running into the kitchen for a glass of water. He drank from it until he could barely stand any more and then put it down again.
Yu sat next to the doll and picked it up. "Such a beauty." He mumbled to himself, he brushed the doll's messy hair away from her face and studied it. Remembering how filthy the doll was, he sprung to his feet and looked for the appropriate cleaning supplies for an old doll. He stripped the doll off her filthy dress and started the cleaning procedure.
"Use a damp washcloth, and use mild soap or dish detergent. Carefully now..." He mumbled to himself, as he cleaned the doll. He was so gentle with her; he couldn't have been more careful around any other living thing. Even he would be upset at himself if he ruined this one. She was a special doll. As he cleaned her, he noticed that her porcelain looked almost translucent and had a faint glow.
Soon, he finished cleaning the doll's porcelain body and then set it in front of him, sitting down cross legged on the floor. The doll's hair was still messy and filthy, but he set that as his priority for tomorrow. "I know I'm not perfect. And neither are you." His voice is quiet and steady, he stared at the doll with a gleam in his eyes.
"There's no such thing as perfection and we all know that. But we both have our flaws. We both have a reason for what we do and sometimes we don't always know why or how. So we might not agree on who we are as individuals, but we both need each other. I think we can find some common ground." He started talking to the doll as if she were an actual human, a real person, not just a prop. "Ah! What am I doing? I'm talking to a doll and now talking to myself!" He nagged. "What time is it anyway?" Yu looked at the clock nearby the kitchen counter and froze. "Shit, 8:30? Already?" He jumped to his feet, grabbed the doll and ran to his room. He took out a clean towel and wrapped the naked doll in it before setting her on the cushioned chair near his bed.
Yu went to the bathroom and brushed his teeth before changing into his pajama's and sliding himself into bed. He pulled the covers over him, he glanced at the doll for the last time and soon drifted off to sleep...
