Seventeen - Winter Is a Terrible Invention

Jungkook's sudden confession of undying affection towards me aside (please don't hate me for exaggerating like that, I'm just making fun of him) did absolutely nothing change after getting fucking attacked by cannibals.

Which was admittedly wild to me, because that just meant that I was desensitized towards stuff like that.

Which is... well. Think of that what you will.

Talking about desensitized, my dear companion is relentless. He just doesn't care. Like, he wasn't even surprised about encountering cannibals. He wasn't even worried. Though, to be honest, this wasn't that surprising to me.

I might not know who Jungkook really is, but I know how he is and that I know almost better than breathing.  All his stupid ticks and smirks and  words, I didn't even notice when I started to just be able to tell what he was about to say by the way his lips twitch, but I guess that's just what happens when you spent months around only one and the same person?

Why am I saying these things?

Well, after recovering from the shock and getting a good few hours of sleep, Jungkook's and my trust and teamwork would get thoroughly tested.

Winter.

Oh, heavens.

"Hurry, idiot." I had been in a grumpier mood all day, mostly on accounts of the first snow of the year transforming the fallen town into the most horrific winter wonderland of all times, "No, Jungkook, don't touch the snow."

Too late. The dumbass had already gotten a hand full.

"OW, FUCK."

"See?" Just as expected was the snow as acidic as the rain, which meant; No snowball fights, to my luck. Jungkook would totally obliterate me.

"Ya can't blame me for at least trying." Jungkook pouted.

"Jokes on you, I can." I waited for him to waddle after me, now really insistent on not touching the snow, "Because I knew it would hurt you. And I told you."

"Smartass." Jungkook mumbled, as if I wouldn't hear it.

"Just hurry." I snorted, unable to believe that this is the same guy who can end five prowlers in under two seconds without getting any dirt on his clothes.

We were trying to make it to Yongsan station before it started to snow again, the large train station being the ideal hideout for the time being; A large space that would protect us from the weather as well as a loads of food supplies.

"You sure this is the right way?" Jungkook squinted into the distance, one hand coming up to fist into my thin jacket (I was freezing up by the way) as if scared I'd get lost in the fog.

"I'm telling you, I am!" I stressed, scowling at him.

He laughed, hand on my jacket coming up to ruffle my hair, "I'm joking Kiddo, I trust you anyways."

I smiled, cozy moment only interrupted by a harsh blow of wind making me shiver violently.

"Aye, Chickie, don't get sick one me like that." Jungkook said warningly, "Or else we won't make it through this winter."

"We'll find some clothes eventually." I rasped, wrapping my arms around my body.

He stepped before me and looked at me with a sigh, "Yer an idiot, really. Could've just said something."

I grinned sheepishly, nodding my head forwards to signalize him to go on.

"Na-ah, we're getting you something warmer to wear first, moron." He flicked my forehead, before shouldering his scythe - Jungkook-language for "let's get to work, bitches".

I threw a longing gaze in direction of Yongsan station, before following the man past heaps of snow and rusty cars. Our breaths condensed in the cold air, small puffs of clouds surrounding our heads while we made our way through snowy Seoul - an oddly romantic way to describe the broken down scenery around that was covered in nothing but white.

Finding clothes in Seoul isn't exactly the hardest task, the overbearing amount of fashion stores having served Jungkook and me well many times in the past. Literally, I would've never thought that South Korea's obsession for everything related to looks and fashion would save my life one day, but here we are.

"Let's visit that one!" Jungkook suggested at the next best store we found - one I wouldn't have opted for in any normal circumstances, every mannequin behind the iced windows displaying an outfit in a different shade of grandma. But this is not the time to be picky about my outfit choices.

"Yeah, just hurry." I mumbled, feeling a little bit like how I felt whenever my mom dragged me shopping with her when I was a little kid.

By "visit" Jungkook had meant smashing the front window with the hilt of his scythe, not even blinking as he proceeded to do just that right after I had given him the okay.

I remember yelping when he'd done that first, but merely flinched now, cocking an amused brow when he offered me a hand to help me get inside, "Always the gentleman."

He bit his tongue, grinning, "Oh, shut up."

The insides of the store were nothing special, pretty much exactly how I expected them: Stacks of old-fashioned boomer gowns, covered in endless amounts of dust and grime.

"Pick whatever." Jungkook looked idiotically serious, "It's on me."

"Ah yes, much thank." I mumbled, before going ahead and picking the first best warm looking item - a decent looking, brownish coat that somehow reminded of the stuff detectives would wear in old criminal shows.

I shook off the dust, averting my face so that I didn't breathe anything in, and threw it over quickly, "kay, let's go."

"No, no!" Jungkook looked at me disappointed, shoving me back around, "Pick more! I said it's on me!"

"Are you serious?" I craned my neck back, looking at him confused.

There was something in his eyes, like an excited kid playing family, with a smile that was only half teasing and half genuine. Was he... was he role playing shopping now? Geezus.

"You've never genuinely been shopping, have you?" I realized dryly.

He didn't answer, though the way his wide smile got tighter spoke for itself. Now that's just sad.

For his sake, I grabbed a few random shirts (also shaking them off beforehand) and marched towards the changing rooms, "Lemme try them on then." If he wanted a real shopping experience I could just go ahead and make it authentic as well.

"Yeah, sure!" Jungkook smiled and followed me on my step.

...

"Jungkook?"

"Yes?"

"You do know that you usually go in there alone?"

He looked at me and then looked around in the tiny changing room, eventually shrugging, "I mean, I can help you change?"

I couldn't bring myself to find it weird, as I've changed next to Jungkook more than enough, quickly throwing off my old shirt in exchange for the one I just grabbed, my companion turning around immediately, out of habit and, well, decency.

I fought a little bit with the absolutely odd cut of the item, before sighing frustrated and giving up, proceeding to stare at the back of Jungkook's head.

After a second or so of silence, his shoulders shook and he turned around with a shit-eating grin, "Ya really can't do anything by yourself, can you?"

I huffed, "Just help me out, will ya?"

He complied with a chuckle, reaching forward without further teasing.

His fingers grazed my shoulders, sliding over my bare arms while helping me out of the shirt, staring at some point underneath my chin concentratedly. Something about the way just the tips of his fingers lingered on my skin made me feel decidedly weird; which was not necessarily unwelcomed, but definitely strange.

"This- uh Jungkook." I glared at him, a little put off, "Why you gotta me it so... so sexual."

"Mm?" Jungkook hummed, "Who said this was sexual? You fuckin' perv,"

"Me? I'm the perv?" I swatted his arm away, "Get ya hands off me, moron." I imitated his bad accent, making him laugh incredulous.

"Oi! I wasn't thinking' anything weird til you brought it up!" He defended, lifting his hands defensively.

I finally shrugged on the coat we came here for in the first place, shoving one hand against his (solid) chest with a suppressed grin, "Sure, whatever ya say, big boy."

Jungkook followed me laughing, scythe thrown over his shoulders horizontally, arms hanging over it from behind to hold it in place agains the back of his neck, blade crashing into the wall as he walked behind me.

"Let us travel to Yongsan Station!" I announced, stepping over the shattered window glass into the cold.

"Let us travel warm and safe!" Jungkook added equally enthusiastic.
