Chapter Two
The previous night, my brother insisted on Cisco and I staying at the house. After significant time was lost arguing about it, we eventually agreed.
Now Cisco, George, and myself sat at the breakfast table chatting away, when Anthony entered the room. Around seven he'd left 35 Portland Row without a word to any of us.
"You left early this morning, had some errands to run?" I asked curiously, watching as my brother briefly froze in his motion of making toast.
The little twit was hiding something.
"I made the decision of placing an ad in the Times." Anthony quickly and vaguely explained.
"An ad for what?" George asked obviously irritated about being left out of said decision.
"A junior agent to join us on jobs. We need the help." The youngest Lockwood stated with finality.
"What about Rose? She still has her powers somehow, can't she join?" George suggested not liking the idea of such a drastic change in the house dynamics.
"Georgie, I live in the States and I have my own agency over there. As much as I would love to move back and see you both more often, I have agents of my own to look after. If Moira and Penny weren't retiring next year, I would have put them in charge and moved back faster than you could say 'ghosts are dicks'."
"Besides, Cisco's family is back in San Francisco and so is his job. I couldn't ask him to uproot his life like that."
"For the record, I would do it in a heartbeat. I could easily find another job and my parents have been talking about moving back to Nevada for years, I doubt they would mind as long as they are present for the wedding." My fiancé piped up, sending a loving smile my way.
"See?! We don't need new people, we'd have Rose and Cisco!" George argued motioning to the pair of us.
"You both need a listener and my listening skills are rubbish. My visions are more reliable than my listening." I countered with a shrug.
"Practice is a beautiful thing, Rose!" George replied, still heavily against hiring a new agent.
"Besides my abilities died out entirely three years ago. I doubt I'd be much help." Cisco continued for me, a small smile on his face.
"I already put the ad in the paper. I'd be ecstatic to bring the two of you into the agency, but the fact still stands that we need a listener." Anthony backed me up with a nod.
"The interviewees should start showing up at around eight tomorrow." My little brother stated with a tone of finality.
"Do you want me to sit in? I could help weed out the sketchy ones." I suggested, knowing that Cisco would be curious about how Anthony's hiring process went.
"Sure, you being there would probably calm George down a bit, you know how he is with change."
"Of course." I responded, before remembering the main reason I'd come to visit in the first place. "Anthony, could we talk please? I have a question for you."
He nodded before following me out of the kitchen and into the living room. I took a seat on the couch and my brother took a seat in his chair.
"Ant, I'm going to get right to the point here, because we both know I'm shit at beating around the bush." I started, a grin forming on my lips. "I want you to walk me down the aisle at the wedding."
The youngest Lockwood sat silently for a moment, I imagine absorbing my words. Just when his silence started to make me nervous, Anthony shot out of his chair and embraced me in a hug.
"Am I correct in assuming that's a 'yes', Little Brother?" I cackled in amusement, returning the bear hug.
"Aren't you supposed to be some sort of genius, Big Sister? Of course I'll give you away!"
"Genius? Yes. Psychic? No." I joked, quoting him from earlier.
"Honestly, Rosie, I'd be honored." Anthony said sitting back down in his chair.
"I'm glad, Ant. I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have so the job." I grinned happily.
"So am I the best man or the ring bearer?"
We both turned to the living room entrance to find George leaning against the entryway with a small smile.
"Whichever you're more comfortable with Georgie." I shrugged, Cisco nodding in agreement once he entered the room.
"Ring bearer it is then!"
