Chapter Two
{Wassup?? New chaptaaa! Just out of curiosity, who's here from Change of Heart, and who's here from A Deal With The Devil? Comment and tell meh}
Xzavier's POV:
The first few classes of the day passed rather slowly and boring. It was mostly us introducing ourselves and the teachers going over the class rules. By lunch, I was so ready to see Clover and Christian.
I bolt from my seat as the bell rings, signaling it's time for lunch. Clover, Christian I always meet each other under the tree in the quad, so when I see them, I nearly cry from joy. "ZAVIE!" Clover calls running to me.
"CLOVIE!" I call back, running to her as well. When we get to each other, I pick up her small body and twirl her, giggling as she places kisses all over my face. "Hey baby girl, how are you?" She giggles and drags me over to Christian.
My smile drops, though, when I see who's sitting next to him.
Mason, his legs propped against the tree with his back on the ground, his eyes closed. But, goddammit, he looks really fucking sexy.
"Why is he here?" I hiss and pull Clover to a halt. "Again."
My best friend shrugs her shoulders and tries to make me move, but I stay firmly planted on the ground. "Awe, come on Xzavier! He isn't that bad, is he?" I glare at Clover. How can she even say that?! The guy is the definition of evil and hatred!
Damn hot guys gotta be so rude...
"I don't bite," Mason calls from across the yard. "British isn't my taste."
I glare at the brunette and slowly walk to them, sitting down cautiously next to Clover. There's a reason why Mason doesn't date, and that is because he's gay and most of the guys in our school are straight, give or take the few closet cases. Some people speculate that he doesn't date because of a past boyfriend, but that's truly a rumor and nothing more.
"So," I say to them, taking a bite from my sandwich. "How was your guy's day?"
Clover complains to me about some girl in her Chemistry class while I eye Mason carefully, taking in his brown wavy hair and smooth, pale skin. He's hot in a cute sort of way, just enough muscles to be seen through his thin jacket.
"I would prefer it if you don't eye-fuck me," Mason tells me without looking at me. Christian slaps his chest softly and gives him a look that says to knock it off. "What?" Mason asks, confused and irritated. "I asked him nicely."
I scoff and pick at the edges of my sandwich crust. "We must have a different definition of 'nice' then." The boy shrugs and takes a bite of his apple, still not looking at me, but off in the distance.
"Anyway," Clover says slowly, looking between me and Mr. Douchey McAsshole. "How was your day, Zav? Do you know anyone in your classes? Is anyone giving you any problems?"
I laugh softly and tear her away from Christian and into my arms. "No, Mother, no one bothered me." I giggle and kiss her head. "But thank you. And it was fine. People can be rude, but no one mean, really." My eyes shift to Mason again, but this time he's staring back. When our eyes meet, he gives me a bored look and turns away, finding his apple pretty damn interesting.
Christian sighs and takes Clover back into his arms, kissing her cheek. "I love you," he whispers against her cheek, making both Clover and I smile. The blonde girl repeats the words softly, taking her boyfriend's hands in hers.
"Awe," I coo, leaning over to pinch both of their cheeks. "Aren't you just the cutest thing I've ever seen! Man, I can't wait 'till I get a boyfriend like that."
Clover giggles, Christian grins, and Mason couldn't look like he gives less of a shit. My girl best friend reaches over to pat my face. "One day, my adorable Bristish friend. One day your Prince Charming will come. As for now, you have me and Christian and... Mason?"
The brunette scoffs and closes his eyes. "No one has me," he replies in a flat tone. "I don't date."
Chris gives us a look that tells us to drop it before taking a bite of his wrap. We continue our chatter casually and I soon forget that Mason is even here, due to how quiet he's being. I jump a bit when I hear his voice next to me. "I'm going back to class," he tells us... Or more likely Christian and Clover, since he doesn't even send a glance my way.
My friends wave goodbye to him and once he's out of hearing distance, Chris turns to me, looking nervous and scared. "He told me about his ex before, so please don't bring up dating or stuff like that when you're around him, okay? Please?" Clover nods, and as do I, regardless of how much I can't stand him. If the rumors are true, Mason's ex was the biggest piece of shit who cheated, beat and even raped him.
"Good." Christian sighs in relief, his eyes holding sadness and... Fear? "He has every right to be an asshole if he wants to be."
His girlfriend nods her head, frowning. "So, the rumors are true then? About his boyfriend forcing him to have sex with him?" Clover asks softly, her frown deepening when Chris nods. "That's horrible! What kind of monster does that to a person?!"
I bite into my sandwich and shake my head. "I heard his boyfriend was more than five years older than him and that he used to be really shy and stuff."
Clover shakes her head. "That's terrible," she says sadly as she bites into her peach. "Nobody deserves that!"
People start going back inside, indicating that lunch is over. "Nooo!" I cry, burying my head into my hands. "I don't wanna go back! How mad do you think my mom'll be if I skip?"
Clove rolls her eyes and smacks me in the back of the head, before stroking it. "You have such nice hair," she tells me with a grin. "But no, you aren't skipping."
A whining noise comes from my mouth and I shake my head, pouting. "I don't like you!"
Clover shrugs, cracking a grin. "I can live with that."
I glare at her and move from our spot under the tree and trudge back inside, not waiting for them as I happily skip to my class. But during my trip to the next class, I bump into a certain somebody.
A certain somebody by the name of Mason Tomkins.
"O-oh sorry, Mason," I apologize with a nervous chuckle. "Didn't see you there." He gives me a flat look before pushing past me, a scowl on his lips. Damn, somebody's on their period.
Shaking my head, I walk to my next class and take a seat. Thank God Mason is a couple years older than me, then we might have the same classes.
The day passes uneventfully (unless you count my English teacher tripping over her skirt and falling) and when the final bell rings, I sprint from my seat and rush over to Christian's locker, throwing my arms around his neck when I see him. "I have never been so happy to see your ugly ass before!"
Chris rolls his eyes and shoves my arms off. "Shut up." He playfully punches me. "So, how was your first day? See any cute boys."
I nod my head eagerly. "Hell yeah!" I giggle. "There's Aaron, and then there's Carter, and- Ooh! Leo is pretty hot as well." My friend laughs and walks out with me. "Where's Clover?"
As if on cue, my hot-mess of a best friend runs towards us, her backpack hanging from one shoulder and a notebook with papers flying all over the place in her hands. "Here! Clover is here! Is Christian and Xzavier ready to go?"
"Yes, Elmo." Christian rolls his eyes. "We need to wait for Mason, though. He told me he needs a ride home."
I hold back a groan and slouch against the wall, closing my eyes while we wait for the Mr. Badass to arrive. He does, a moment later, and gives us (Clover and Chris) a hint of a smile, waving coolly. "Let's go," he tells us and walks out.
I bite back a growl and follow my friends out, one arm wrapped around Clove. "I don't like him," I hiss, even though Mason intrigues me a bit. "Why is Chris so buddy-buddy with him? I mean, the guy doesn't even have a personality! He's just... Hot. Hot and nothing more!"
"I couldn't tell you," she whispers with a shrug, eyeing Mason as well. "Chris hasn't said anything other than 'Mason lives down the street and our parents are friends.' That's it. I don't even know when they started talking. Damn Christian. This is why I'm marrying those pancakes."
I giggle. "I know. Christian is an ass isn't he?"
"Christian heard that," Chris says, turning around with a flat look.
"Now Chris is Elmo, too!" I say happily, pointing to the boy. "Awe, two Elmo's in love. How very adorable."
Clover and Chris laugh and when we reach the car, we see Mason settled comfortably in it. "I'm fine burning in this hundred degree heat, thanks." He rolls his eyes and gestures for Chris to hurry, which he does.
The ride home is silent minus the radio playing softly in the background. "Thanks, Chrissy," I cheer and lean forward to place a kiss on both his and Clover's cheeks. "I'll talk to you lovely people later." I turn to Mason and force a smile. "It's nice meeting you, Mason."
He grunts a response, his eyes holding some kind of... Resentment, and leans his head against the window, eyes closed.
I wave one last time before skipping inside, smiling at my mum. "'Ello, mum." I smile at her. "How was your day?"
My mother smiles back and comes up to me, hugging me. "Hey, Zavie." She smiles. "My day was good. How was yours? Like your teachers?"
I quickly explain my day, leaving out the part with Mason, before residing to my bedroom, a nap long overdue.
"Hello bed," I greet, stripping down to my boxers and hopping on my bed, rolling around like a kitty. "Oh bed, I love you so very much." Of course, I don't get an 'I love you' back, and even though I'm disappointed, I still sprawl out on it and kiss it. "It's okay, I know you love me."
My thoughts drift to my school day, somehow landing back on Mason.
Mason, though an utter asshole, is intriguing. All the good in him was transferred to his appearance, I'm guessing, because that boy doesn't have an ounce of courtesy in him. "What an ass," I mumble to myself before curling into a ball and falling into a deep, pancake filled sleep.
