Chapter Five

{Vote, comment, blah blah blah <3}

Mason's POV:

"You know, the kid's not that bad," Christian tells me with a raised eyebrow, ruffling my hair. "He's super nice, actually."

I roll my eyes, gently pushing his hand away. "I know," I say softly. "I just can't- I can't. I just can't." I shake my head, leaning into him.

Chris gives me a soft smile and leans over, placing a small kiss on my lips. "No one's asking you to do anything, Mason. I, uh... I'd honestly prefer if you didn't do anything..."

"I don't want to," I say. "Not after what happened with..." I shudder, bringing myself closer to Christian.

He simply wraps an arm around my shoulder and strokes my hair. "It's okay..."

"Uh, am I, like, ruining a moment or..."

I sit up, glaring at Xzavier. "No," I snap, hating the venom in my voice.

His hands go up in mock-surrender. "Sorry, sorry. Didn't realize someone pissed in your Fruit Loops..."

Christian holds back a snicker, disguising it as a cough as he scoots away from me, while my glare just deepens. Xzvaier plops down on his friends lap, throwing a casual arm around his neck and smiling at us. "Pizza will be here in about ten minutes. We can watch a movie until then." His smile widens as he puts on a movie and makes himself comfy in Chris's lap.

I grit my teeth, looking ahead, and trying to ignore Christian and Xzavier. I just need to ignore them.

"You're lap is so comfortable," Xzavier giggles, patting Chris's cheek, and from the corner of my eye, I see him kiss it. "I wish you were gay, I would so date you if you were."

"Well, he's not," I snap, finally looking at them with a glare.

"Mason, calm down." Christian frowns, but I can see the bit of fear in his eyes. "He's only joking."

"Yeah, Mason, calm down." The British boy snickers. "If he was gay, we'd be banging long ago."

"Shut up!" I yell. He's scaring him, and he doesn't even fucking realize it!

Xzavier jumps off of Christian's lap and scrambles to the other side of the bed. "So-sorry..." He mumbles, wrapping a curl around his finger. Christian, on the other hand, starts to tremble the slightest bit, if you didn't look hard enough, you wouldn't even notice it.

I lock eyes with him, silently telling him it's alright, he's not here anymore, he can't hurt us anymore. With a slight nod, Christian excuses himself by going to the bathroom.

"I'm sorry," Xzavier mumbles. "I don't know what I did but... I'm sorry..."

I sigh. "It's fine," I say harshly. "Don't worry about it."

"I didn't mean to upset him," he continues, looking up at me with scared, sad eyes. "I would never hurt Chris. Do you know why he's so upset?"

"No," I lie. "It's fine. He knows you didn't mean it."

Christian comes back a moment later, his eyes slightly red and puffy as he sits back down with a shaky smile. "Sorry." He forces a laugh. "Allergies..."

The curly-haired boy gives Chris a skeptical look but doesn't say anything as he sprawls out on the bed, eyes fix on the TV with a slight smile.

I go back to ignoring them, leaning against the bed lazily and trying to block out the voice of Xzavier. "Come on, Chris, he's hot!" He cries, pointing to Zac Efron."If you were gay, you would think he's hot, too."

I bite my lip, hard, trying not to snap at Xzavier again. It's because a habit to get angry with people, and I don't like it.

Christian just sighs. "It's a good thing I'm not gay then, huh?" He asks, and I don't miss the slight hurt in his voice as his eyes flicker to me for a split second.

I lock eyes with him again, trying to let him know what I understand. I close my eyes, leaning back again, pulling up my hood. The doorbell rings and Xzavier flies from the bed, jumping up and down. "Pizza!" He cries, pulling on my arm. "Come on, food!" He kicks Christian to get him to wake up a bit and starts to pull me harder. "Hurry up!"

I stumble off the bed, falling against him, my arms wrapping around him to keep my balance. "Fuck," I grumble as we fall to the floor.

Xzavier let's out a tiny cry and buries his face into my shoulder as we hit the ground, groaning loudly. "My bum! Again!" He whimpers, still clinging to me.

I tighten my arms around him, burying my face in his chest, my cheeks bright red in embarrassment. He lets out a nervous laugh and tries to wiggle from my grasp, ending up bumping his face against mine and our lips brushing. I freeze, stiffening my body.

Christian clears his throat and pulls Xzavier off of me, rolling his eyes. "You are just the biggest klutz." He snickers, shaking his head. Xzavier just stares at me, wetting his lips as his eyebrows scrunch together.

I force my face to go back to neutral, pushing myself off the ground and standing up. I look at Xzavier, raising an eyebrow. He quickly looks away, his face beet red, and awkwardly clears his throat, scratching at his head. "Uh, yep... Pizza..."

Instead of grabbing my hand, he grabs Chris's and pulls him into the kitchen, bouncing up and down all the while. I follow them lazily, sitting down next to Christian. I miss Christian. I wish we didn't have to pretend all the time, but we both have our reasons. When I'm positive no one's looking, I lock my fingers with his, under the table.

He makes no emotion that says we're holding hands, but he gives mine a squeeze, eating a slice of pizza with his free hand. "So," Xzavier says with his mouth full of food, turning to me. "Tell me about yourself, Mason. I already know everything about Christian."

Not everything, I think. But I just shrug, looking at my uneaten food. "There's not really much to tell."

He frowns. "Nothing at all? Hobbies, favorite food, favorite TV show, favorite-"

"I think he gets the point, Xzavier." Christian chuckles, shaking his head as he rubs circles on my hand. Xzavier frowns again, but looks to me with a raised eyebrow.

"I don't do much," I say truthfully. "There's nothing interesting about me."

"How boring," Xzavier comments, smirking a bit. "And here I was, thinking you were the most interesting person in the world."

I glare at him, showing him the finger on the hand that isn't clutching Christian's nervously. The curly-haired boy chuckles and leans his head against his hand. "You know, you're not half-bad looking," he tells me with a slight nod, a smirk still tugging at his lips.

Fear and excitement leaks into my veins, and I glare, the first words I can think of spitting out of my mouth. "Shut the fuck up, fag."

Xzavier jolts back in shock, his eyes widening as they fill with tears. "I-I'm..." He abruptly stands from the table, swiping at his eyes as he scurries away.

"Xzavier!" Christian calls before turning to me with a glare. "Really, Mason?"

"I-I didn't kn-know what to d-do," I whisper. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't- I'm sorry..." He doesn't say anything, just shakes his head as he stands from the table and follows after Xzavier.

I begin to tremble, squeezing my eyes shut tightly and taking deep breaths. "Dammit," I whisper.

I stand up, following after them and pausing outside the door, listening carefully. "Xzavier, he didn't mean it," I hear Christian say in a soothing voice. "He didn't, I promise."

"I-It reminded me of when those se-seniors attacked me," Xzavier whimpers, crying. "It so-sounds stupid... But it still scared me..."

Chris sighs. "He didn't mean it. He's just snappish and he doesn't think before he talks sometimes."

I back up, turning around and making my way out of the house. I sit on the porch, taking deep breaths. "It's fine," I whisper. "I'm fine."
