Chapter One

Evan smiled as he and Connor walked around the park. A comfortable silence between them as they held hands platonically. Jared would probably make a remark about how it was more and maybe Evan wanted them to be more than just friends but for now, this was enough.
They both looked at each other as a tree came into view."Let's go then Hansen." Evan could tell that Connor held back a smile as they walked towards the tree silently. They leaned on the trunk and sat there silently until Connor broke the silence once more.
"School starts tomorrow, another year of being forgotten I guess." Connor never spoke positively so this normally wouldn't faze Evan but it admittedly hurt him.
"Y-Yeah...I guess." He didn't continue, knowing that he would probably breakdown if he did.
"Well. I'll see you after school then." Connor stood up and offered his hand to Evan.
"W-What do you mean...?" Evan tried not to sound heart broken.
Connor sighed."People can't see us together. It wouldn't be right, it just...feels off.Bye Evan I'll call you." He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked away.
Evan tried to keep his voice steady as he said a quiet."Bye." And trudged back to his house alone.

The sandy blond woke up to his mother knocking on his door softly."Honey! Time to wake up!" Evan groaned in response and began to get ready for the day. He picked a blue stripped polo shirt and some khakis, nothing special for an not special guy.
Once he was almost finished getting ready he pulled out his laptop and started writing a letter his therapist had told him to write.
"Dear Evan Hansen," he read out loud."today is going to be a amazing day and here's why, because all you have to do is be yourself." He paused before adding a couple more words."But also confident like easy to approach and not worrying about you're sweaty hands so much because it'll be that one time that you went to Zoey Murphy's jazz band concert because you wanted to talk to Connor but then you didn't because you're hands were to sweaty. They weren't even that sweaty until you started worrying about them being sweaty and that just made them even more sweaty so you put them under the air dryer in the bathroom and they were still sweaty they were just very warm now as well. You even had it planed out like you would introduce yourself and he would say "My names Connor." And you would say."I'm sorry, you know her?" And he would be like."No,My names Connor." He didn't use proper punctuation but he didn't care.
Heidi walked back into his room."Hey sweetie, you gonna have a good day at school today?"
"I guess..." Evan began to put his shoes on.
"Have you been writing those letters to yourself? 'Dear Evan Hansen, this is going to be a good day and here's why:'" Heidi held her hands on her hips as she spoke sweetly to her son.
    "I started one."
"Those letters are important honey, their gonna help you build your confidence!"Heidi punched her son's shoulders affectionately. Evan didn't respond and left the room."Hey! I know," she followed him out of the room being used to his attitude."You can go around and ask the other kids to sign your cast! Perfect icebreaker! It looks kind of lonely with only Connor's name on it...well actually..." she let out a giggle as she saw "CONNOR" sprawled out in big letters on Evan's cast.
"Perfect." Evan faked a smile and headed out the door.
    "Love you!"
    "I love you too..."
The tree's leafs rustled above Evan as he walked to school. He took his time to take in the view and relax for the first time since he and Connor had that walk on Sunday. Until it was ruined by Connor bringing up that he didn't want to see Evan at school. He didn't put it that way but he knew that's what he meant.
Evan tried to avoid anyone but one of his classmates stopped him."Hey Evan." Alana Beck held his arm in order to stop him."How was your summer?"
   "It was great-um..."
Alana cut him off and spoke of the extra curricular activities she did over the summer. She sounded like Evan because she kept rambling. She noticed his bright white cast."Oh my gosh what happened to your arm?"
"I-I uh, fell out of a tree?" It came out more of a question as Evan lied to himself.
Alana started ranting about how her grandmother also broke something but Evan wasn't listening. Before he knew it Alana was gone and he was left alone again. Before he could even take a step his friend Jared stopped him.
"Is it strange to be the first person to break their arm from jacking off to much?" Again with the snotty remarks that Evan hated.
"Dude!" He looked around to make sure nobody had heard what Jared said."Th-That's no-"
"I can see it now, Connor Murphy's Instagram page pulled up-" Jared was cut off by another burst of Evan's rambles.
"No,No,No,No,No you see I fell out of a tree-"
"You fell out of a tree? What are you a...gaycorn?"
"Well you see the funny thing is-is that I feel out of the tree and-here's the funny part-I just laid there for about ten minutes waiting for somebody to come get me and I kept thinking."Oh,here they come" He kept making hand motions.
"Well did anyone come get you?" Jared seemed focused on someone behind Evan.
"Of course not. H-Hey would you like to sign my cast?" Evan held out his arm farther than needed.
"Why are you asking me?" The brown haired boy looked offended.
    "Because you're my only friend..."
"Woah,Woah wait. We're family friends that's like a totally different thing.Woah! Hey Connor!" Jared made Evan whip around to see his friend. Well friend outside of school."Lovin the new hairdo, very school shooter chic." Evan stifled a glare at Jared as he continued."...It was a joke."
"No,No I'm laughing. Am I not laughing hard enough for you?" Connor raised his voice and Evan refused to look at him.
"You're such a freak." Jared walked away and left Connor and Evan alone.
"Why aren't you looking at me,Evan?" Connor surprised Evan with the question."Why aren't you looking at me,Evan!" It came out more of a statement then a question.
    "N-N-No-its just-"
"You agree with him huh? You think I'm a freak! I'm might be a freak but at least I'm not the only one Hansen!" Evan saw tears start to make their way down Connor's face before he was harshly pushed down by his only friend.

  "Dear Evan Hansen,
Turns out today wasn't so great after all..."

(Sorry that this was kind of just like the opening! I hope I didn't bore you to much!)
