Lost Soren
It all started on a sun filled day... Soren was searching the river's edge for shells. He just loves how they glisten and the colors they radiate amaze him. Soren heard the bushes shaking and stood very still and quiet. Suddenly, a bear 20 times larger than him ran straight towards Soren. He immediately jumped into the river and got taken away by the strong current.
"Help" he yelled. But no one was around to hear him. Soren heard a waterfall roaring nearby and he tried swimming backward, but he soon became tired and fells down the waterfall. He twisted and turned under water. He tried to gasp for air when the chance was given and soon hit dry rock. Soren climbed out of the cold water and shivered erratically.
"How am I to get home?" he asked himself. Soren decided to set off lost through the unknown forest.
Kin yawned and stretched and looked around the moss covered cave for her friends. "Neros?! Jenny?! SOREN?!" she called out.
There was no answer. Kin walked out of the cave and noticed a camp fire and cooked fish waiting for her. After she ate the fish, Kin went to the river. She had thought her friends would be there but she only found Soren's paw prints and bear paw prints, too. So she turned back toward the cave.
Neros ran through the trees, branches scraping his skin. "SOREN !!!" Neros called out, desperately searching for Soren who was at the river but disappeared.
He can be anywhere, he can be hurt, he could have died. Stop being so pessimistic, Neros thought. Neros suddenly stopped running. He heard a faint yell, but he couldn't distinguish from where it came from. Neros needed to find Soren before the sun sets that's when the bigger, meaner wolves come out.
The river flowed rapidly, spilling out the sides. Jenny scuffed her feet against the sand and kicked a rock into the river. It was afternoon, Jenny was waiting for Neros to come back with Soren . Its been two hours and no news on Soren. Jenny decided after hanging around the river that it would be safer to go back to the cave.
A bee buzzed in Soren's ears and the day grew darker. Soren kept calling out for help, but he believes that he is too far away to be heard. Soren hears a coo and a crow soared through the sky and landed on top of Soren's head.
"Hey! Little crow! Why have u landed upon my head?" Soren asked.
The crow looked down at him with coal black eyes that stared with no expression. "I must rest. After I rest I must fly and search for worms for my young crow babies. I am so worried they will starve I am starting to lose my feathers." the little crow cawed.
"Well can you help me find my way home? I live in a moss covered cave near the river. By the way, my name is Soren." Soren said.
The crow coughed and wheezed. "My name is cucumber. I will be glad to help after my rest."
Kin heard a rustle from the bushes and she Immediately went into defensive mode. She placed her paws in front of her and stuck her butt into the air, she even bared her vegetarian teeth a little. Neros had taught this to her for just in case. But Kin didn't expect it to be Jenny who popped out of the bush until it was too late. Kin had sprung on top of poor little Jenny, her limbs flailing and her tail limp.
"Opps, sorry Jenny! Thought you were danger," she giggled, crawlin off of her.
Jenny brushed her fur off and said it was ok. "It's getting late! Where's Soren and Neros? They should have been here by now," Jenny commented.
Of course, Kin had noticed this, but the best they could do for everyone was stay safe in the cave. Night fall soon fell upon the forest next to the river. Kin and Jenny shivered as they heard the howling wolves. They instinctively went deeper into the cave so not be smelt by the blood thirsty hounds.
Neros slowly walked toward the roaring river that was purple from the night. He lied on the floor and hung his paws over the river"s edge. He lifted his head and stared at the moon. He howled, but it didn't sound like the baby wolf howl he usually has, it was more of an adult wolf howl.
Suddenly, three large wolves came out from the brush. Neros spun around to face them he bared his tiny teeth . The older and much stronger wolves laughed and Neros looked at them confused.
The biggest and most muscular of the wolves, a black male with a white chest, approached Neros. "You are so small! What do you eat, fish?" he asked.
The wolves laughed. "Uh... Actually, yes, I eat fish," Neros replied.
They laughed even harder. "Well, you're in our territory so back off or else we take you to our alpha," the black wolf growled.
"No my territory is next to this river! It isn't yours! " Neros explained.
A grey, dainty, wolf with crooked teeth answered to Neros, "This is our territory at night and you know this."
Neros lowered his head in defeat, because in fact he did know that. The white female and the smallest but cleanest wolf of them all bit Neros' ear and he followed her to the alpha.
Soren knew the wolves were coming, and Cucumber flew up into the sky to look for the cave. When he flew back down he reported that there was no caves at all. Soren decided to move forward. Cucumber shivered in fear at every little sound. The leaves rustling, twigs cracking, leaves falling, and even his own breath. Neros heard a swish of air run through the trees. He knew a wolf has finally found them.
The white wolf guided Neros to an opening that stood a large boulder that slanted up then down like a rollercoaster. A dark grey wolf with blue eyes appeared from the other side of the rock. He stood there looking at Neros then lifted his grand paw.
The black wolf who took Neros bowed, then the grey one bowed with a huff, and then the white one bowed her eyes still on Neros. Neros didn't bow though and it made the dark grey wolf on the rock get angry.
"Rise, " he said. And the three wolves stood. "What seems to be the problem, Seth?" the dark grey wolf asked the black wolf.
"We found this lone wolf near the river," Seth replied.
"I am Chase, the alpha male of pride pack. What were your intentions for being out in the dark in our territory?" he asked.
"I was only searching for one of my pack members. My beta, Soren," Neros explained. Chase lied down.
"Well, you still are aware that we own this territory at night, correct?" he asked.
Neros nodded. "Well, I must make you fight for your freedom or you can be in our pack or we keep you prisoner until we know what to do with you," he explained.
"No, please, I must get back to my pack," Neros pleaded.
"No! You know the rules fight or stay," he demanded.
Neros pawed at the ground. "Fine! I will fight, but you'll be sorry," Neros said.
"Get him!" Chase demanded to the three wolves. But neros had ran out from the clearing.
Seth ran after him and the grey one followed close behind. But the white one stayed. Chase came down from the rock and sat beside her.
"Crystal, are you alright?" he asked her.
"no, I don't want him to fight. He doesn't have a pack, Chase. Because then he wouldn't be out there searching alone," she explained.
Chase considered this for a moment. "Oh no! I know this wolf," he said, as realisation struck him.
"Come with me, your helping me rescue him," Chase said, running into the trees. Crystal smiled. I knew he looked familiar, she thought. She ran after Chase.
Kin and Jenny could hear claws scraping against the cave floor. The wolves caught their scent. But Neros was the wolf that appeared in front of them, instead. He had scratches and blood stains on his fur.
"We're no longer safe. Come with me! " he demanded.
Kin and Jenny followed Neros out of the cave. Two huge wolves waited at the foot of the cave. Neros sat down and huffed. "I don't want to fight you guys," neros informed.
Jenny hid behind Neros and Kin behind Jenny. "What is this?" Seth asked, as he motioned toward Kin and Jenny.
"Part of my pack, " Neros said.
They both laughed. "That is not a pack!!!" Seth laughed.
"To me, it is!" Neros growled.
"Well it's too bad we have to kill you and them! " the grey wolf growled stepping toward Neros.
Neros lifted his head and made a wall of himself to shield Kin and Jenny. The grey wolf sprung at Neros and bit his neck. Neros threw him off and remained where he was.
"I'm not going to fight you," he whispered strongly.
The grey wolf sprung again biting the side of his stomach. Neros let out a yelp and fell to the ground, but he got back on his wobbly feet. This time Seth sprung, but was knocked down by... Chase.
"What are you doing?" the grey wolf growled.
"Back down! " Chase demanded.
The grey wolf stared at him. "Now!" the grey wolf backed up and stood next to where Seth lay on the ground.
Crystal sprang into view her fur visible in the dark. The sun was starting to rise. "Neros..." Chase called.
"How do you know my name?" neros asked.
Jenny came from behind Neros and sat at his side, Kin did as well.
"I know because you were the lost pup from two years ago," Chase said, stepping toward Neros carefully.
Neros shook his head. "Who are you?!" Neros asked.
"I was your best friend." Chase said.
"I can't believe your alive, Neros!" Crystal exclaimed.
"Crystal! Oh! Now I remember! But what do you want from me now?" Neros asked. Chase shook his fur. "Come back to the pack," Chase said.
"Never! I have my own pack now." Neros shook his head.
"They might not be wolves but their my pack now. This is Kin, this is Jenny."
Chase smiled at Neros. "You always had leader qualities, Neros. I will help you find Soren then. What is he? " Chase volunteered.
"A calico cat," Neros smiled. They were all out and about to find the missing Soren.
Two large wolves stopped Soren in his tracks. "Look at what we have here!" a brown one said.
Soren hissed at them. "Go away!" Soren demanded.
"No, we're going to play!" the brown one with a black muzzle said. He prepared to jump, but a howl broke through the silent night. He stopped. He walked up to Soren and grabbed the skin of Soren's neck and carried him away.
"Let me go!!" Soren wiggled under his grip.
"My alpha wants you, alive." he said.
Neros walked in impatient circles next to Chase. "Where is he?" Neros asked under his breath.
Chase yawned. "Sit down, sit down. Soren has been found. They were on the other side of the river just wait," Chase reassured.
Neros huffed and plopped to the ground. Kin and Jenny sat next to Neros still a little afraid.
"So how's the pack?" Neros asked
"We are doing great. Your mom died a month ago, though. It was from a illness that couldnt be cured. I'm sorry." he said.
"It's not your fault," Neros said, putting his head on his paws. Then, the brown wolf arrived with soren in his jaw. He let him go and Soren ran to Neros instinctively.
"It's ok you're safe now," he reassured.
"Neros, can I please introduce you to the entire pack?" Chase asked.
Neros nodded. Chase and neros stood up and climbed up the slanted rock. Chase howled and wolves kept appearing in the clearing. Neros let out a shaky breath. Once every pack member was there, Chase started to speak.
"Everyone we have found a special someone tonight." The pack whispered silently and eyed Kin, Jenny, and Soren.
"Remember the missing pup from two years ago named Neros. Well, here he is alive and well. He will not be joining our pack, again. He has found his own pack to nurture. But I have decided that we be friends with his pack since he is our own blood."
Some nodded, some couldn't believe it. An old grey wolf coughed and said, "Is that really my son?"
Chase smiled. "Yes, Hemingway, that is your son."
Hemingway smiled crookedly. "I thought you were dead."
"No, dad, I'm alive," Neros said.
"Meeting adjourned," Chase said. Most of the wolves left but some stayed to greet Neros.
Neros stayed a little distant from his family, because its been a while. A light brown wolf very small jumped at Neros, knocking him down. She licked his face. "Oh! Olive is that you? You didn't change at all! " he giggled.
Olive jumped off of him and scurried away to her friends. Olive is Neros' sister. Now there was only four wolves left in the clearing, which was Chase, Seth, Neros, and Crystal.
"So your the alpha male now," Neros said, pawing the ground.
"Yes, isn't it cool. Of course it took work and dedication, but it was all worth it in the end. And Seth here is second in command," Chase said.
Seth smiled. "Nice to meet you, Seth." Neros said.
"Well, you got yourself a very interesting pack. Don't you?" Chase joked.
"Ha.. Ya.. Their awesome though," Neros defended.
"Oh, don't take it so offensively. Of course they might be your friends, but are they even strong enough to be a pack?" Chase tried.
Neros snorted, "Of course their strong. Just because their not wolves does not mean they can't roughen you guys up a little."
Chase laughed, "Sure they can."
Crystal pushed Chase down. "Stop being so mean, Chase. Is it because you want to be in control of Neros, too?" she retorted.
Chase stood up and growled, "You piece of scrap! Why did u push down your own alpha?! Your going to pay! And of course I don't want Neros he is too weak to be in my pack!"
Chase bit Crystal on the neck hard enough to draw blood. "You and him are omegas through my eyes!" he spat.
"Leave her alone!" Neros snapped.
"This is my pack don't tell me what to do!" he spat.
"i'll stop if u knew how to run your own pack!" neros spat back.
"Leave my territory! Now!!" Chase growled. Neros slowly turned and walked back to the cave with his friends in tow.
Neros curled up into a ball next to the flickering fire. Soren tried to talk to him, but he refused. "Does he want a real pack again?" Kin said, with a sniffle.
"Maybe, but we can try to be a worthy pack so he can feel that he was right about us being able to roughen those wolves up," Soren suggested.
"That sounds dangerous!" Kin shivered.
"I think we can do it," chimed Jenny, swinging from a vine.
"Yes let's start in the Morning! Rest well!" Soren said, stretching and closing his eyes.
