Out Of Place

She sat facing the West. A strong gust of wind formed far away and rushed to the very place where she was sitting. It blew back her short hair and rustled the trees, making her jump at the sudden noise. The moon was full and to her left. It cast a bright light that left the world unusually lit. Everything was gray, but details could still be seen and it looked as if the sun had just set minutes ago. The girl's shadow was stretched across the gray shingles of the roof all the way to the gutter. The sky was clear, but the stars couldn't shine bright enough to break through the moon's light.

Usually the roof was peaceful. Usually it calmed her. This night, however, it was different. Eerie. The wind caused strange noises and the moon was too bright. Neighbors talked and cars passed by playing loud music. The girl heard a dog barking and the slam of a nearby door. Headlights shone on the street in front of her and the sound of cars passing echoed through the dark. Nothing seemed right. It was all out of place.

The wind picked up again and the girl closed her eyes, simply feeling the cold wave rush over her smooth skin. The feeling of it pushing back her hair and perfectly hitting her face brought her comfort.

There, sitting on the roof in the moon's light, the girl waited. On that eerie night she stayed silent. In the busy noise she was still. Her gaze remained on the moon, her mind far away in it's light. There, she was jumping through the craters and soaring with the stars. The only thing that brought her back was the wind. Everything was out of place except the wind. Especially her.
