21 | Back to the Surface

Holy shit you are never going to get used to teleporting.

You and Sans reappeared in what looked like a lab, another throbbing migraine smacking you in the face. "Oh god... teleporting sucks." You groaned, Sans snickering next to you. "you'll get used to it." You gave him a look, ready to fire a sarcastic response at him before shaking your head and letting out a huff. You got a closer look around the lab and the first thing you noticed was the large screen that had views of every part of the Underground. "Creepy..." Was all you said as you narrowed your eyes at the screen.

"alphys was just really obsessed with humans at the time ever since she found the anime mew mew kissy cutie in the dump." Sans said, coming to stand beside you with a tired look on his face. "Wait, this is Alphys' lab?" Sans nodded. "But she's in high school! How...?" Sans shrugged. "down here we didn't really care what age you were to go to school, if you felt as if you had learned enough you could always drop out and use that knowledge to live your life. since alphys had finished all her schooling down here in the underground, she's been wanting more and more information ever since. now that an opportunity like the schools on the surface are available to her, she'll take it." You glanced over at Sans. "And she did." "yep."

You looked back to the large screen. "Huh, good for her then." You looked back over at Sans who looked ready to pass out. "Sans?" His skull started to droop forwards. "Sans!" You grabbed him before he could fall to the ground, soft snores coming from his sleeping body. Teleporting must be a lot of work. You groaned and put one of his arms around your shoulder, looking around the lab for somewhere to put him. You spotted a rolley chair and staggered over, Sans' weight causing your balance to be messed up.

You dropped him into the chair then looked at him, his face looking contented while he slept, soft snores coming from him. You felt your face get hot and you quickly looked away, trying to get your mind off of the sleeping skeleton behind you.

You also needed to stop blushing so much, it was getting on your nerves.

You picked up a piece of blank paper off of a cluttered desk and grabbed a pen from inside a drawer. You started to doodle and draw while sitting in another rolley chair you had found across from Sans.

Three hours later and you had filled up two whole pages of doodles and a page that was completely covered in ink from a detailed drawing that you were finishing. Your drawing skills were getting better and you smiled proudly as you held up your finished work of art. You set it down on the desk then heard Sans stir in the rolley chair. You turned around to see him looking at you with his eye sockets half-lidded, a small smile on his face. The sight made your face heat up instantly but you tried to gather your composure to shoot a sarcastic comment at him. Gotta stay sassy amiright? You were finally able to stop blushing and smirked at him. "See something ya' like?"

He chuckled and sat up, standing up from the rolley chair and stretching. "How does that even work?" Sans looked over at you. "what?" "You don't have muscles, why do you need to stretch?" Sans shrugged--that stupid skeleton shrugs at everything--and looked over at a clock. "we should get going, it's almost seven pm." You nodded and walked over to Sans' outstretched arm. You took it and closed your eyes, preparing yourself for another ride through the washing machine of space.

A flash of light later and you were groaning from pain in a long golden corridor that had artificial light streaming through stain glass windows. You looked around the corridor, the pain somewhat gone, and marveled at how pretty and shiny everything was. "This place is beautiful!" You said, gawking over the stain glass windows. You looked over at Sans who shifted uncomfortably, as if he didn't like this place. "i guess," Was all he said, glancing over at the large door in longing. Why was he so uncomfortable?

You walked over to him with a gentle smile, taking his hand in your own and tugging him towards the door, his cheeks taking on a blue tint. You both walked through the large doorway after opening the door to be standing in what appeared to be a throne room with golden flowers everywhere. They were the same kind you and Sans had fallen on about a day ago. You spotted another door that had sunlight leaking through the cracks in the door. Real sunlight.

You smiled and ran over to the door, pushing it open to reveal a beautiful view of the sunset from atop a cliff on the side of the mountain, the city in the distance a silhouette with the waves of the ocean that was even farther away have streaks of sunlight dancing across it. The view took your breath away, the wind blowing your hair into your face and your body glowing with the dying sunlight. You didn't know Sans was beside you until you felt his hand slip into yours, a small smile starting to appear on your face.

You felt Sans squeeze your hand before pulling it, making you turn to face him, sucking in a small breath when you realized how close both of you now were. Sans locked gazes with you, an expression on his face that you had only seen a few times before but were quickly always covered up.

Love.

He broke his gaze on you and instead focused it on the sunset. You did the same, noticing that you and Sans' hands were still clasped together.

"i remember when we escaped the underground as if it were yesterday," Sans began, his voice causing you to glance over at him. "the sun was setting just like this one, and i couldn't help but think, 'wow, this is one of the most beautiful sights i have ever seen'." He turned to you, smiling gently. "well, now i've found another beautiful sight to look at right here along with the sunset."

Your eyes widened and your face heated up quickly, his words making your brain go to mush. Sans chuckled at your expression, blue blush dusting his cheekbones. "ya' know, when i first saw you with your mask off at the club, i couldn't even express any emotion on my face," You didn't move and just listened, completely silent. "but inside my head, well, i don't really know how to describe it, but i just felt this massive wave of relief and happiness." Your breath seemed to hitch in your throat as you finally spoke up. "Why?" Sans hesitated before locking gazes with you again. "because that day, i found out that the two people i loved were the same person."

Your heart swelled in your chest as your eyes widened, your suspicions being correct. You weren't oblivious to how Sans acted around you,--Myst or not--you just told yourself that you were taking it all the wrong way and that he could never love someone like you. But now that he had finally said it, happiness spread through your body and relief quickly followed, just like how Sans felt when he had seen you without your mask. You smiled at him and took a step closer, Sans noticing and his face slowly starting to turn blue. "Good, because now I can do this."

You leaned forward with your eyes closed, your lips pressing against his teeth in the form of a kiss. You couldn't believe you had just done that.

Sans kissed you back, cupping your face and sliding an arm around your waist to pull you closer so that no space seemed to be between you both. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and deepened the kiss, your heart pounding in your chest like a caged bird. Sans' hand that was cupping your face moved to your hair and starting running his fingers through it slowly and gently, your H/C hair shining in the sunlight. Your heart seemed to be racing at a million miles per second as you both kissed, a small smile on your face.

Reluctantly, you pulled away to catch your breath, your arms still around each other. Sans' face was completely blue as he stared at you in shock. "holy shit." You snorted, burying your face into his chest, your body shaking with laughter. "You bonehead! This was supposed to be a moment!" You laughed out, hearing Sans start to laugh as well. You felt something press against your head and looked up, seeing Sans give his form of a kiss on your forehead. "who says this can't be our moment? i think it's pretty great." He replied, giving you a joking look. Your face grew hot but you ignored it, smiling at him with a playful glare before a thought crossed your mind.

"SHIT!" You yelled, jumping out of Sans' embrace and staring out towards the city. Sans stared at you in shock and confusion when he realized why you had yelled. "fuck." "THEY PROBABLY THINK WE'RE DEAD!" You yelled, starting to run down a path on the side of the cliff. Sans quickly ran after you, both of you dashing through the trees and towards the city, sweat running down your face and your breathing labored.

You felt Sans grab onto your hand and looked over at him, seeing his eye start to glow. You squeezed your eyes shut just as you and him disappeared in a flash of light, the woods becoming silent except for the echoing sound of a loud pop!
