Chapter Three

I screamed running up to them. Grasping the drumstick tightly in my arm, fearing it might magically disappear.

"You are one lucky girl!" Petty shouted over the next song that was playing. It was Easy Love; another one of my favourites but I decided to stay out of the crowd this time. Can't risk these teenagers trying to steal my now most prized possession.

The night was already more than what I'd hoped for. I squeezed Teddy's arm and tipped on my toes to whisper in his ear. "Thank you". He looked at me with a sweet smile and just nodded. Even though I was ignoring them earlier, I'm glad I came out with them.

We spent the rest of the concert, with Petty and me dancing in circles around Teddy, the drumstick still in my hand. We tried to get him to move too, but he was one of those who thought he was too cool to dance. All we got as an occasional nod to the beat of the song. I suppose that was as good as it gets with him.

We danced the night away and when it was finally over, the crowd erupted in cheers so loud, you'd think there were 10 thousand people here. The band left the stage and we all clapped and cheered.

"What are we doing now?" I asked them both. It was still early in the night.

"Oh miss anti-social doesn't wanna go home?" Teddy teased. I rolled my eyes.

"Well if we are already out, might as well go do something". I suggested

"I wanna know who caught the other drumstick" Petty chimed in.

"Yea, for real" I was so caught up in the concert, I didn't even think about who might have caught the other one.

"We should go look for them!" she said too excitedly.

"Why? It's probably some little teenage girl or something. We should find a bar."

"Sounds like fun" I heard a voice say. I turned around to see a delicious tall chocolate brownie, dressed in all black twirling a drumstick between his fingers that looked just like the one I caught. When I didn't speak he continued.

"I think you caught my drumstick" he assumed.

"Um, No I have my drumstick. That I caught." I assured before returning my attention to my friends. When I did, I noticed something was off. Petty was smiling more than she normally did. If her smile got any broader, it would tear her face apart. And Teddy was smirking at the man. What in the world was going on? Then the weirdest thing happened. Teddy bumped fists with the guy like they knew each other. Ok, now I was really confused. All his friends were my friends and I didn't know this guy.

"Hi Donovan" Petty said before hugging the stranger. Donovan? Why does this name ring a not so quiet bell?

"Donovan, this is Lisa", she said gesturing to me. He reached out to take my hand. I looked at him, then at Teddy and I narrowed my eyes at Petty. I obliged by allowing him the pleasure of shaking my hand.

"Hi." I said as dryly as I could. He didn't need to know that I thought he was attractive.

"I've really been looking forward to meeting you". He said still holding my hand. Handshakes shouldn't take more than 2 seconds, 3 the most. But this guy was holding on for dear life! I slowly slid out of his warm grasp.

"Really, why is that?"

"Well, Ted here told me about you and you sounded like a cool person, so" then he smiled. His teeth were pearly white and a small dimple formed on his right cheek. Shit! He almost caught me with the dimple. But I inhaled, deeply, and maintained my composure. He was just another pretty face thinking he was all that and much more. I didn't like those types.

"Petty, side bar" I said grabbing her hand and dragging her over to the barricades. When I was sure we were out of earshot, I spoke.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the guy you tried to get me to meet a month ago?" I interrogated

"Uh maybe" she shrugged her shoulders. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Petrina?! Why? Why would you ruin my night by introducing me to this random guy?" I moaned.

"He's cute isn't he?" she asked looking over at the men.

"No, he's not cute or handsome or my type at all" I denied with all my might.

"Oh please. He definitely is, he's tall dark but not too dark skinned. He's got a nice built figure but not a muscle man. He's got a sweet smile and he dances! Your perfect man!"

"Oh ok slow down. No such thing as a perfect man. He probably has some weird thing about him that will definitely be a deal breaker"

"Lisa look at me" she said placing her hands square on my shoulders, making me face her.

"You are being over dramatic". Petty? Calling me over dramatic? What has this world come to?

"I need you to be nice. Talk to this guy, get to know him and if you don't like him. That's just how it is." I groaned.

"Fine. But I'm calling it right now, he's an asshole and we will not get along".

When we returned to the guys, they suggested we should go to Tracks and Records for dinner.

A few minutes ago I would have been all for it, but all of a sudden I was feeling really tired and I wasn't sure why.

"Lisa. Stop it, you are going" Teddy demanded, when I started to make up excuses for wanting to go home. All this time Donovan's eyes were glued to me. I avoided all eye contact. Around us people were leaving the field and filing out onto the bleachers. They all started to walk to towards the exit.

"Fine." I mumbled. I'm not really one to pass up a free meal.
