Twenty-Eight || Collide In My Head

Media: Kyoya Tategami

[Enjoy some fluff, I guess?]

"Tess?"

When I opened my eyes, it felt like I was a vampire awakening to a new day. Instantly, my eyes stung, and I squinted, then squeezed them shut.

"Good grief, I feel like crap," I grunted, throwing a hand over my eyes. The action was sluggish, and my hand bumped against my nose. "What the hell happened?"

"What do you last remember?" The voice prompted, and I turned my head to the side, trying to locate where it came from. Through the gaps peeking through my fingers, I saw a flash of forest-green and white. The blobs sorted out to be two different people- one I recognized, and one I didn't.

Kyoya looked mildly hilarious- a Hello Kitty bandaid was stuck to his cheek. I wasn't even aware of the fact that Hello Kitty existed in Japan.

A shudder of pain rippled through my head, and I groaned. "Uh... snake dude... rock... Eagle... that's about it."

"Her memory is fuzzy," the man beside Kyoya said, marking something on the brown shape in his hands. As I squinted, it formed out to be a clipboard. He then addressed me. "Miss, Tess, I'm about to do a test, okay?"

"... all right...?"

He shuffled over to the corner nearest to the door, cupped his hands over his mouth, and yelled: "WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE WHEN I DO THIS?!"

My fist curled deeper into the fabric as I squirmed, the loud noise banging around in my head, feeling like my brain was a ship and it just hit an iceberg, tipping to the side as it sunk.

"Oh, god, not too good," I whispered. "I need a stress ball..."

"Kyoya, sir, why don't you offer her your necklace?"

The Leone blader's hand went to his neck, wrapping into a fist and resting at the hollow curve in between his collarbones, where I could only assume his pendant-thing was.

"I don't need it, I swear!" I attempted to sit up, and look tough, but failed miserably, flopping back onto the sheets as my mind decided not to cooperate and send another wave of agony.

Kyoya looked like he was about to object, but the man gave him another pleading look. "Fine, Otonashi," he muttered at last, poison lurking in his voice as he picked the chain up around his head, and handed it to me.

The cold surface against my skin felt reassuring. I admired the smooth, reflective surface in my hands, turning it over and over, spotting a small K.T. etched into the curve at the bottom.

"If I may, Tess," Otonashi said. "Can you stand up for me?"

"This is not going to end well, just a warning, if my body is going to react to standing as badly as my head feels," I groaned in response, but kicked my legs over the side of the bed, wrapping the chain of Kyoya's necklace around my wrist and clenching the item tight in my hands.

Pain sparked up my leg when I set it on the ground, but I ignored it, pushing off the bed. When my weight shifted to the point where I was supposed to hold it myself, but my legs gave out beneath me.

A hand caught my elbow, and I found myself putting almost all my weight on Kyoya's shoulder. Heat inched up my cheeks as the Leone blader only looked at me, raising an eyebrow. "... idiot," he scoffed at last.

"I would call you something else, but this headache's killing me, and you would probably let go of me, causing me to collapse in a heap on the floor, so I'm gonna avoid doing that," I muttered in return.

Otonashi made several more notes on his clipboard as I eased myself to the floor. "Ah, so my suspicions are confirmed. You have a concussion."

"A... what now?"

"A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that is caused by a blow to the head or body, a fall, or another injury that jars or shakes the brain inside the skull," Otonashi informed me. "You might want to take it easy on yourself for a while. While the physical symptoms are quite clear- headaches, throwing up, dizziness, balance problems-"

"Dammit," I scowled.

"There are other symptoms, such as lack of sleep, or too much of sleep, more prone to emotions such as anger or sadness, loss of memory, and inability to think clearly."

"Fun," I stared at the floor, reality starting to set in my brain. I looked up sharply, which was not a good choice as I clutched at my ear, the ringing in my ears refusing to stop. "But..! I have to save my brother!"

"That being said, I'll leave you two to catch up, now," with that, the medic scurried out of the room, leaving me slumped on the floor in the same room as Kyoya.

Several moments of silence. I shifted more then once, trying to get in a comfortable position against the wall.

"You could just ask for a pillow."

Following his statement, something hit me square in the face, and I let out more then one colorful curse as my head swam. "Ugh, I hate being weak, but take it easy on me! Doc said to take it easy himself!"

Yet, I cushioned the pillow behind my back and sighed in relief. "So... if I can, what exactly happened?"

"How the hell should I know?" Kyoya snapped. "Tsubasa- I think that's what his name was- set me free to find you, and when I found you, you were lying on the floor, unconsciousness. I carried you out."

"You carried me out while the building was falling apart?" I gestured to my cheek, where I could see several marks of his own on his face.

"Yeah, what else was I supposed to do?"

"Oh, I don't know, leave me there to die. I'm touched."

"... I was wishing that the concussion might make you less prone to talking back," Kyoya peeked at me out of the corner of his eye. "You're not even wearing my pendant, so can I have it back?"

I stuck out my tongue. "No."

And further slung it around my neck. The frigid orb hovered just below my collar bone.

"Rixen," Kyoya glowered.

"Can you explain why you're here, then?"

He sighed heavily, huffing a green-colored bang out of his eyes. "They mistook me for a boyfriend at first-"

"Me? You? Romantic relationship?" I tried my best to sound offended. "As if!"

"Why don't you shut the hell up? You asked the question!"

"True. Go on."

Kyoya rolled his eyes, but continued. "Then thought I was a distant family because of the fact that I knew what recently happened to you and your name. After they realized I wasn't, they wanted direct kin, but I told them Shaun was... not here.

"I would've called the J.C.I, but I didn't know the number, so I guess I was the next best thing."

I snorted. "Next best thing, my ass."

"Do you want me to strangle you with that pendant?"

"I'll pass, thank you."

Someone at the door knocked. I called "Come in!", only after wincing at the sharp noise. A blonde-haired girl poked her head in.

"Kyoya Tategami? We need you for questioning," she stated.

Kyoya stood, casting a fleeting glance down at me. "Oh, I'm coming back tomorrow. You're supposed to get to sleep, and I have to question you about stupid simple things to check if your memory's working properly. So get your butt into bed."

My features pulled into a frown, as I held up my hands, relucant to ask for help. "Um... I need some help getting up. Balancing problems, remember?"

Huffing in response, Kyoya harshly grabbed my hands, roughly pulling me up with a jerk. I staggered to the bed before collapsing on it. He then disappeared out the door, his long trenchcoat swishing behind him.

I flopped down onto the bed, snuggling into the sheets when my fingers brushed the pendant around my neck.

Against my will, my lips twitched up in a smile.

He let me keep his pendant.
