Chapter 5
"Qualis rex talis greix"
When I could finally open my eyes, the first thing I noticed was dark. My room wasn't illuminated like it was when I fell asleep, but with a few straps of moonlight. The next thing that came in my brain were whispers. And not the good one.
"Your Majesty you can't wake her up." The doctor said. There was some rush in his voice.
"I will." He answered coldly. Hairs back of my neck instantly shuddered.
Well, I'm already awake. I closed my eyes just in case they decide to come near me.
"You can't. Her condition is still disputable. I need to check how she replied to blood and also her vital functions." he made a short break, "Your Highness, this may leave injuries on the mind. You should know that."
So that is what I felt on my left hand. I thought I dreamed it but guess no. He gave me the blood. It looks like the doctor didn't lie after all.
"I don't care. She could live long enough to take that for something bad." The Prince's voice changed into a warm tone. I if knew him I would have thought he is worried.
"Is it true? She told me why she came here." I opened my eyes again. That doctor is idiotic.
It took few minutes before Prince responded, but when he finally did, I felt something unusual in his voice.
"Yes. I saw it on my eyes. She talked to me while her parents sat there frozen."
"That is impressive," he whispered.
"You need not be charmed doctor," he said fastly, "She is a trouble for the system. The faster she tells me everything the faster I will find everyone else. There is always that chance."
My heart just skipped a few beats; I never thought something like that. Maybe there is someone out there, in another city, land, region, which has the same powers as me. If they find another person, they will see I'm not dangerous and I could go home. A flame of hope lot in my chests.
I just want to go home. Have some rest in my old house, room. I don't want these fancy stuff where the hospital is fancier than my house. It just feels empty. There is no soul. People are here but like they are not.
But guess they got uses to it. With The Prince as an example it's no wonder people like power more than people. If you have enough money, you are safe from everything. Even from army.
"Maybe I could examine that. If there is something in DNA," the doctor started slowly, " I can compare with someone else's blood," his voice became higher for an octave, "or even with Yours your Majesty." The excitement doctor felt was almost touchable. My eyes shut again.
"No. No one will test my blood." He said sharply that I moved my arm. My body was afraid of his voice.
I heard them suddenly stopping with conversation but after a few minutes I heard doctor speaking again.
"Maybe to continue this conversation in my office."
I didn't hear Princes answer, and I thought they were gone. Just when I finally exhaled I felt someone's hand on my collar. A hand moved my hair and exposed the bandages. My breathing stopped in bottom of my lungs. Somehow I recognized prince's scent. There was something undescribable in him and I couldn't determine what. His whole appearance looked mysterious.
"Make sure this doesn't get infected. I don't want father to say I couldn't spare her infection."
"Sure, your Majesty." The doctor answered. The hand moved from my neck leaving my neck to a cold air in the room. Only when I heard doors closing, I could finally inhale. My legs touched floor with one thought. I have to run.
When my eyes accommodated to a mid-dark room, I could finally see why I didn't have light. They covered the window with dark metal bars.
I shrugged with frustration and turned around my room looking for something that could help. A sudden pain in my neck stopped me in the place. I felt like the wound was being cut open once again. The only thing I could focus is breathing without throwing up. When a dizziness came back again, I pushed myself on the bed.
My mind didn't see a dark room but a thousand stars shining in the sky. I was back in my town watching boats sailing in the sea, flock of seagulls flying above them, the sound of their roar filled my ears. In here the only sound was a constant electric buzz.
The light in hallway turned on. Spinning my head to see what is happening I pushed myself to lie again. Just when doors opened my eyes shut closed, and I was just in the sounds.
The nurse entered the room. I knew from clomps sound on the floor. I shut my eyes, even more, when she touched me.
"Hey, girl. You need to wake up." Her touch was light as a feather on my shoulder but I twitched like I just woke up. I blinked a few times like I don't know where I am, but I knew. Hospital, room from which I can't escape. The Prince only a few rooms away.
"Hey." She smiled, and I sat on my bed, rubbing my eyes. With light from the outside I saw this is not the same like today. This one had a dark hair and older face. On her was visible every night she spent here.
"Here. You need to drink this." She gave me two pills and a bottle of water.
"What is this?" I asked softly.
"Against infection." She explained while looking at something on the bottom of the bed. Taking a pen from her left pocket she wrote something on the paper and looked at me. I saw a smile on her face.
I took pills and put them in my mouth. The taste was bad. Like mould. Disgusting. I felt that taste even when they went down.
"Do you want more water?" She asked me.
"No. I'm fine," I said looking at the floor.
"Okay. I will found a doctor to check you." I stared at her.
When she said that I automatically connected two and two. If a doctor is coming, then the Prince comes too. They are together, and I felt my stomach trembling in the deep dark hole.
My silence she must have taken for a fear and she turned with comforting words on her lips. "Don't worry. It won't hurt."
When doors closed again, they filled my room with shadows and dark. Somehow when I was in my house dark made me feel comforting but in here, it was a sign or more danger and unanswered questions.
I closed my eyes when I heard a door opening again and a few steps. Exactly two pair of steps. I can't believe how fast they came.
"You are awake." The doctor said, and my eyes met his. With them came light and a dark room was nothing more than a white, cold place.
"Yes," I said carefully looking into his chocolate eyes. I didn't want to watch behind him where a big shape in white stood. He could be a part of the room. But my eyes left doctors, and I was observing those cold eyes.
He is all in white. His black hair is the only distinction. The gold rope on his uniform is in compliment of white but his messy hair is not. His hands crossed on the chest and I looked back. They were a dare to look at him. To be strong. Pretend to be brave.
But, I'm not the brave one. I looked away. At the floor. When I saw a doctor's white shoes, I looked up observing his eyes. His brown look was filled with compassion and comforting. Like he was trying to keep me safe.
"We need to see a wound." I nodded moving my hair up.
I felt the patch being ripped and then unwrapping bandages followed with gauzes. I saw a few drops of blood on white fabric but he threw it in the bin before I could ask anything. Calling a nurse by her fist name he took gloves from the box and checked my wound. I felt his cold hands on my collar examining every inch of my skin making sure there was no decontamination.
Just when he was putting a new set of gauzes on my collar I met Prince's look. He was quiet the whole time. There wasn't his act of demanding and questioning ruler. He just stood there watching carefully.
Before last set of gauzes doctor took some yellowish thing in a bottle and a few pieces of cotton. I felt sudden blood rush in my veins.
"What is that for?" I asked watching one moment at a bottle and the next at a doctor's eyes.
"For disinfection. Don't worry. This doesn't hurt. It's just to make sure your wound stays clean."
When I finally nodded, he turned my head far on the left and with light tapping painted my neck.
As doctor continued to place some things around neck, my eyes closed and I tried to imagine my dad besides him. Maybe I hit a tree and somehow scratch myself. Or I was just clumsy, and I fell. But the fell on my skin wasn't the same. Here gauze was so soft and smell wasn't noticeable.
I smiled when everything was over and he smiled back. This doctor is good, but the Prince behind him is not.
"We are leaving now." The Prince suddenly spoke and my eyes turned to his.
Doctor nodded taking a few steps behind before Prince came near me. It's like he knew he is useless. He can't help me anymore. In a few giant steps, we were outside the hospital, his hand painfully pressed on mine.
"Deal with her." He pushed me at the guard's chests but I turned facing him.
"I can walk by myself." My voice was harsh and quiet.
"I know. But you can always run." He said sharp. He is not in the mood for talking, but I am. Now when I'm certain he will kill me I want to kill a piece of him too.
"I'm not a clown. I can't run from a gorilla and," I turned my head to check the second guard.
The tall one.
"And the stick," I said with a smile.
If I had to die, I will die talking and humiliating the one who will kill me.
"Shut up." He blurted angrily. And no matter how much I tried my mouth just didn't want to open again.
As he turned again this time to another new direction, I looked around myself. They lightened the park with a few lamps forming a big circle making places for sitting visible and comfortable. My head raised to see a sky full of stars. Every single star represented a soul of a person who left us. In Ignur they weren't shining like in my town. Even dead doesn't like Ignur.
"Remind her she is not here on the holiday." He murmed through his teeth.
Guard squeezed my hand, and I yelled. Bastard.
"I know I'm not on a tour because I have the worst leader," I said and forced myself on a smile. Damn the Tall is strong.
Prince stopped suddenly, forcing us to do the same.
"Let her." He commanded, and the guard realised his grip. I instantly massaged a place where his hand was.
With every step Prince took toward me my smile just dropped until finally all I was able is to look up at him. When he was just touching my hand he stopped. His head lowered to my ear. As the hot air touched my skin, every nerve in my body went wild. I felt my hands shaking. Knees barely keeping me up.
"That collar is maybe stitched for now, but that doesn't stop me to open it again. Maybe on the same place. So stop acting like a brave one and walk. Be the same scared girl like you were in your town."I felt his fingers traveling on my bandage before they stopped next to my ear. Every word just went down his thong like a maggot digging in my skull.
I nodded looking him in the eyes. His breath made my skin crawl but his eyes did not freeze me.
His hand went through his hair in the same time as his eyes rolled exhaling again.
"You will be dead in two seconds if you don't stop with your act." This treat is real. I could feel twitching on my skin from his words. Every bone in my body just vibrated. He would do that. I nodded this time taking his treat seriously.
"Good. Now move." He took me for my hand, just above the elbow, and pressed even harder than a guard.
"Hey! That hurt." I said breathing fast trying to twitch my hand. He walked so fast I needed almost to run next to him.
"Good. Maybe a little stronger?" He squeezed harder, and this time I screamed. I heard him smiling. His smile just made my knees tremble, and I tried to free again.
When a castle showed again, my breath stopped. On night it seamed even bigger. Taking me to the left in front of some doors he finally let my hand I rubbed to bring circulation back.
The second doors opened and all solders inside bowed and with every step we made his smile became bigger. Not a single one dared to look up or to ask him. They were completely obedient. Good for him. That feeds his ego.
At the end of a short hallway another wooden doors appeared. They lead to a dark room lightened only with a lantern on the right wall. I saw two chairs and a table in the middle. Suddenly my legs cut off; I couldn't move.
"Sit." He pushed me to the right chair when two guards stepped in.
"Your Majesty, do you want us to finish with her?"
"Watch at her." He ordered quickly before disappearing through the doors.
I turned my head from the doors and looked at the wall. I wasn't tied, and that is good, I think. But the bad thing is that two guards are here and much more outside. I can't run from here, either.
I put my head on my arms and looked at the wall. My eyes followed a little spider climbing upon the wall. I watched his little steps toward the end and by his judgement, a home. He doesn't care what is happening around him. He will always continue to go forward even someone destroys his plans. That is called persistence.
I heard steps followed with devil himself. He was just in the white shirt and white pants. There wasn't a uniform or guns, sword or something. In that, he looked like a regular man in a linen shirt and white pants that went to church. Someone my mother would make to wear in the Saturday pray.
Person like Prince wears uniform even in the church. He is just committed to them. My eyes looked at two guards standing next to doors.
"You can go." He showed to the doors and with a quick bow they disappeared. Taking a few slow steps he made his way inside shutting doors behind.
Oh, no. Nothing good happens when doors are closed.
"Qualis rex tails greix" Like a shepherd that flock.
Maybe this is weird saying, but that shows how the prince is acting. In this case he is shepherd and the rest of people and guards are flocks. They are acting like a prince.
Soooo. The new chapter. What will happen next and why is doctor soo good to her? Why does he want to test Prince's blood?
As always, I love to hear from you guys.
Love love love...
