Chapter 26: Stand-Off While Planning
- Palutena -
I rubbed my eyes away of tears quickly as Pit looked down on us. "Oh, look at you two. Cowering in fear. It's almost like you want to be dead by now." Pit commented with a smirk. I visibly swallowed as I noticed that stare in his eyes and heard that tone of voice. "Well, good news. I'll be more than happy to end that misery and fear for you." He added, raising up both of his hands and summoning a ball of light. My eyes widen at the sight and as Pit lowered his hands, I grab Link's right arm and drag him behind a nearby boulder. "Palutena? What are you doing?" Link asked as Pit continued to summon more light balls. "Link, listen to me. I've seen this happen before..." I replied as I looked around me. "Come out! That boulder won't keep you safe forever, stop trying!" Pit exclaimed in a mocking tone. We both stay silent and I panic realizing the one only way I can defend against Pit is my staff. "So be it. I'll destroy that boulder and then you!" Pit exclaimed and started to blast a light beam at our boulder. "What do we do? It isn't gonna hold us forever!" Link exclaimed, covering his ears. "Come on, over there!" I yelled back as I pointed toward another bigger boulder. I looked up to see Pit so concentrated on the boulder that he wouldn't notice us. I grabbed Link's hand and we both ran toward the boulder. Once we reached it, Pit successfully blew up our original spot into tiny pebbles. "Huh? Where are you, peasants?" He exclaimed in anger. I covered my mouth and Link did the same, we sat behind the boulder in fear for our lives. I could feel Pit look all over the place before he flew to another spot that was far away from us.
"What do you mean by you've seen this happen before?" Link asked. "I'm the Goddess of Light so, when it comes to light, I must know everything about it," I replied as I narrowed my eyes. "So, what do you know about this? You said some things back there when Pit turned like that." Link spoke, looking behind the boulder to see if Pit was coming back. "People can easily be corrupted with both light and dark energy." I started, fiddling with my fingers.
"Light energy is a surprise, I know. But, people can be so invested in that energy to the point where they unconsciously hurt others. Dark energy is no surprise. People are corrupted easily by it. They can hurt people and they know they're doing it. People are so intoxicated by this energy and its effects." I explained, remembering back to when all the Gods and Goddesses had to have a meeting about it. How we fought on how to deal with the problem and prevent people from getting corrupted by it. Poor Pit and Dark Pit were confused and scared when they were used as examples.
"Us, Gods and Goddesses had to talk with one another about it. It wasn't a pretty talk but, we agreed on good terms. I would control that light energy while, Hades, the God of the Underworld would keep the dark energy at bay. Everyone was uncertain about this but, we did a good job of keeping them at bay." I explained, sighing as I looked down. "But?" Link mumbled, knowing I had something else to add. "Unfortunately, Hades didn't keep his promise for long. He attacked the humans and our world as well. Pit was able to save everyone along with Dark Pit in the end." I spoke.
"Yet, all that light and dark energy slipped out from us. And now, I wonder if that dark and light energy is Dharkon and Galeem. Have they been feeding on people's dark and light energy? Have they been preying on Pit and Dark Pit because they would suit their needs for a vessel? My poor angels have been through enough suffering as it is." I explained, grasping at my dress tightly. "Yes, well, everyone has been through suffering and no one knows when it'll stop. But, this isn't your fault. You didn't know this would happen, you guys were under attack, it would be understandable. Though, I have one question..." Link reassured, stroking my hair.
"What is it?" I asked, calming down. "Was there ever a case where a person was ridden of that corrupted energy?" Link asked. "Well, now that I think about it..." I mumbled, remembering back to what one of the Goddess said. "The Goddess of Love said something that always stuck with me," I spoke, remembering her words. "What were they?" Link asked. "Love will always win in the end. Not even this energy can defeat it. If that corrupted person has someone they love, they most certainly wouldn't want to hurt or scare them." I repeated her words.
"We tried it on someone who was corrupted and she was right! The person had someone they loved so much that the energy couldn't keep them apart. In fact, their love scared the energy away!" I exclaimed, gasping afterward. "Are you thinking of what I'm thinking?" Link asked, smirking slightly. "If we find Pittoo's and Pit's special someone then, they can get rid of those evil energy spirits!" I theorized, getting up from my spot.
"First, we need to brink both of them at the same spot." Link suggested and I nodded. "Next, I need to find my staff. That staff will have some sort of a spell to aid us." I added, wiping away any dirt from my dress. "Alright, deal. Ahem..." Link replied. "Hey, Galeem! Are you that stupid that you didn't notice Palutena and I hiding behind a boulder? Dharkon, are you that weak that you're fighting off wounded victims and not fresh victims?" Link yelled out. "What are you-?" I was stopped by two sonic boom blasts. We both turned around to see who or what made those sounds.
It was Galeem and Dharkon who were both floating over us with energy balls in their hands.
