Chapter Twenty: Second Theory

"Hey (y/n), how have you been?" A deep voice inquired from the other side of the line.

"Good, I think I've had enough of bed rest. I'm ready to get back to work." You spoke enthusiastically.

"You sure?" He inquired, voice laced with worry.

"Yeah, I think three days of rest is enough. Plus I can't have you and Namjoon work on the case by yourselves. You guys are doing a favour for me after all." A sigh could be heard through the speaker, you assumed the older was rubbing his temples at this point.

"It doesn't matter if it is a favour or not, you can take a few more days off this case if you want. Namjoon and I have got it covered. Your health is more important." He tried reasoning, making you laugh. Your best friends soft side showing.

"Awww." You cooed in a teasing manner. "Are you too worried? Because I'm okay, promise."

"(Y/n). That's not the point." You hear a different voice say, you assumed it was Namjoon. It was sweet that they were worried about you but you were more than one hundred percent fine. In fact, you had so much bottled up energy ready to be put into investigating Jungkook's case and work.

"Joon, Yoongs." You begin to speak sternly. "I said I'm feeling great, I promise. Okay?"

"Okay." They both breathed in synch.

"Oh by the way. I spoke to a few of the prosecutors who worked on the case with your father in the past about the events." Namjoon informed, hope beginning to brew inside of you.

"AND?" You yelped in curiosity, your relaxed positions changing into an enthusiastic one.

"Nothing." He spoke out flatly.

"Oh." You let your shoulder slump as you walked into the lobby of your work office, gloomy making your way to the elevator, well that was anti-climatic.

"When I interviewed them it was like they were all reluctant to answer my questions. They were all very nervous. Like something was going to happen to them if they did say anything." Your brown kitted, but then realised the contract you have to sign before investigating the case. All contracts state that speaking of the case outside of work is prohibited.

"It's apart of our contract." You simply replied.

"Hmm, that makes sense," Yoongi added.

"But they all agree that the case has more than met the eye. They said something riddle like but I don't quite remember." You hummed in response, carefully listening to Namjoon.

"The obvious may not be the answer. I don't know something like that." Yoongi finished off Namjoon's sentence.

"The obvious may not be the answer...." You repeated aloud. "Obvious may not be the answer. Not be the answer."

"What we did in the past scared me for life, You didn't plan on killing him straight away, I~." It was then you remembered back to your interview with Vincent, Dou's ex-boyfriend.

You went to pass him a tissue and retreated to get more from the dispenser. Turning back to him, you swore you saw something in his eyes. Not tears but a smirk.

"He deserves it for cheating on me." That specific line rang through your heard like there was no tomorrow.

"Him." You unknowingly spoke aloud. Not realising you had reached your office floor and that Yoongi and Namjoon had been calling out your name during your thinking process.

It all made sense. Dou didn't kill Jungkook. It was his ex-boyfriend! That would explain his odd behaviour. He told her the twisted truth to get revenge on Dou for cheating on him. He had the right motive and not to the mention not actually admitting that Dou the killed Jungkook. He stopped after it and you could bet what he was about to say next bit saved himself. "HIM!" You exclaimed in realisation, someone literally needed to put a light bulb next to your head as the idea became more clear, it would have lightened up straight away.

"Who?" Yoongi questioned.

"He killed him, how could I have been so ignorant to not see it?" You knocked your head lightly with your palm, scolding yourself for not see so.

"WHO?" Yoongi exclaimed, getting rather impatient with your odd behaviour.

"DOU'S EX-BOYFRIEND." You finally blurted out, whilst pacing down the corridor.

"What? You mean the person you interviewed a few days ago?" Namjoon quickly interjected.

"It all makes sense now." You flung your hands up in the air with happiness but then quickly retracted because you finally realised everyone around you was working.

"Okay (y/n) you aren't making any sense."

"I'll explain it to you guys later, meet for dinner?" You immediately backtracked your steps, walking back into the elevator as the doors opened, not noticing your father step out you wherein such a rush.

"Sweetie where are you going? Didn't you just arrive?" Your father frowned, catching your wrist before you entered the elevator.

"DAD!" You were slightly frightened by your father's sudden appearance but recovered quickly. You must have missed him but you were in such a rush. "Dad, can you please cover for me if someone asks where I am? I'll be back in a few hours."

"Why?"

"Ahhh." You didn't have time to explain, you wanted to tell Jungkook was soon as possible, so you made up an excuse.

I'm sorry for lying to you, dad.

"I feel a bit light headed." You lied, hopefully, your father couldn't see past your act. He was your father, after all, he hesitated slightly before letting you go.

"Go go, take a break." He quickly shoed you off and you smiled in reply.

"Thanks, dad, I love you." You said before the elevator doors closed.

It was lucky you ran into your father, or else you had no way of explaining your sudden appearance on your first day back at work.

You wasted no time in getting to the train station, you tried not to look as hurried as you were on the inside as you entered through the gates and to the platform, tapping your foot impatiently for the train to come. Once it did you walked into the carriage and looked around for the ghost.

Where did he go?

Your gaze panned the entire carriage before moving on to the next carriage, finding him zoned out and looking out the window.

"JUNGKOOK!" You exclaimed, quickly catching his attention.

"(Y/n)? Aren't you supposed to be at work?" He turned around, startled by your random appearance.

You held onto the pole beside you, slightly out of breath from your quick running. "Vincent Cheung." You breathed out as you gasped for air.

"Who?" He leaned forward slightly before raising an eyebrow.

"Vincent Cheung killed you." You finally finished off.

He starred blanking at you for a few seconds. The cheeky smile he had disappeared into a flat expression. "(Y/n), are you sure?" He held his hands out in front of him and waved them around in the air. Nothing has changed again but this time you weren't mentally and physically exhausted.

"Yeah, this time I am one hundred percent sure." You also had a blank expression on your face but you weren't surprised you were confused. You continued to stare at Jungkook blankly, blinking rapidly in hopes to see his body disappearing but you didn't.

"Well, nothing is happening," Jungkook confirmed. You gaze remained glued to looking in front of you, taking a seat down on an empty chair in disbelief.

What's going on?

Both times you were so sure but nothing ever happened.

Where you wrong again?

No, it can't be. This one made the most sense.

"(Y/n), are you okay?" Jungkook warily asked, crouching down in front of you in attempt to figure out what you were thinking but you didn't reply. You didn't reply but you didn't mean to ignore him but you were just too deep in thought to hear him. He worried that something would happen to you again so he was on alert and ready, just in case. He didn't want a repeat of last time.

It was silent for a while, it consisted of you staring into space and Jungkook looking at you with a concerned expression. whilst you stared at the wall you tried to gather up all the knowledge about the paranormal you knew, from movies? Book? But you weren't much of a film or book enthusiasts so your knowledge was minimal. Maybe there was something you were missing. Maybe it wasn't as simple as telling Jungkook who killed him.

"Jungkook?" You murmured, finally breaking the silence. The ghost quickly hummed in response. "Do you think we are missing a piece of the puzzled?"

"Puzzle?" He repeated. Your brain continued to run through any movie, book, drama. Anything to give you any hints.

You were more certain than ever that it was Vincent but why did Jungkook's spirit not move on when you told him. The case did not point the three of you in any other direction.

How did she even get the conclusion that Jungkook had to know who killed him anyway?

You hadn't seen in any form of storytelling this incident happened. All spirited move on when there they are satisfied. There have been countless stories about the soul of a spirit moving on when their final wish was satisfied before they died, like a bucket list.

What was Jungkook thinking before he was killed?

He was taken onto the train, blindfolded before dying. Not seeing the face of his killer.

You clicked your fingers, after a very long ten minutes of silence you had it, you got why nothing was happening.

Jungkook never saw the face of his killer, so it didn't matter if he knew the name. He had to see him. "Yeah, the piece. Like maybe you don't have to just know who killed you. Maybe you have to see them." You thought out loud, a little too fast for the ghost to comprehend.

"Okay (y/n), slow down." He waved his hands in front of himself frantically and immediately stopped talking.

"Maybe you not only have to know who killed you but meet them too."

.

This is my last double update before the holidays end for me. I have a test first week back :(

I hope what I was trying to explain in this chapter makes sense. I am thinking of publishing a full explanation chapter for when the book ends to clear the entire case up and what actually happened. Of course, if I do. I am going to make it a private chapter. I actually have a deleted scene that you can only see if you follow me. I don't want to be annoying but I just don't want people to read the explanation or deleted scene and spoil the book for others or you spoil it for yourself because that won't be as fun to read. That is why I am going to make it a private chapter if I do make one. Let me know if you guys want an explanation chapter. It will be written in a story format, so like another chapter but a like a bonus one.

I will let you all know if and when I do publish it but you can access it by following me. It's fine if you unfollow afterwards, just please don't spoil the book for others, thank you.

Anyways, see you in the next chapter, bye bye.
