Chapter Nine: Forming A Team
"Could I please have a small latte?" I smiled politely at the cashier.
"Sure, would you like anything else?" She smiled back.
"No that's all, thank you."
"No worries, that will be 3328.72 won." I quickly dug into my purse to pull out the correct amount of money and handed it to the cashier. "Thank you, here is your number, your latte will be with your shortly." She handed me a number plate and receipt, I thanked her before taking a seat down at a three seater booth. It was way too hot to be drinking coffee today but at least it will wake me up.
"Did you have to wait long?" I hear a male voice inquire. I look up and smiled whilst shaking my head 'no.' One quiet tall, with slightly faded purple dyed hair, holding a charming smile whereas the other a smaller built and navy hair, hands on his pockets with a tired expression.
"No, I just sat down, have you two ordered yet?" They nodded their heads 'no' in reply. "Go an order."
"You know my usual?" Namjoon asked before turning his gaze from me to Yoongi.
"Yep, I'll be right back." Yoongi tiredly replied before slowly making his way to the cashier.
"Hey Namjoon, long time no see." I chuckled.
"Yeah I am sorry about that, work has been a handful." He nervously laughed before taking a seat next to me in the booth.
"Tell me about it, I am glad we at least get this time off to spend some time catching up." I chirped. Namjoon nodded in agreement before scanning the room and gesturing me to bend over so he could talk quietly.
"So why did you call Yoongi and me, you were pretty secretive on the phone this morning." He whispered into my ear. I grinned slightly before we both sat up straight again.
"Calm down, all will be explained when Yoongi gets back."
"Your latte miss?" I turned and smiled at the waiter and he returned a kind smile before placing my coffee down on the table.
"Thank you." I carefully lifted up the coffee cup before blowing slightly onto the steaming hot liquid, afraid of burning myself. I took a small sip and wince from the temperature before placing it back down on the table again.
"Hot?" Yoongi frowned with amusement.
"Maybe.." I trailed off before we both chuckled.
"So spill, why do you need us here?" Namjoon spoke in a hurried tone.
"Especially the both of us." Yoongi exaggerated. I took a deep breath before beginning the start of the story.
"Namjoon, you remember how I mentioned the suicide case in 1997 on the phone this morning?" I reminded. Namjoon nodded, confirming my inquiry but Yoongi remained puzzled.
"Are you two talking about the case which as SOLVED over ten years ago." He blatantly pointed out.
"Yes that is correct, now stick with me~."
"Ten years ago." Yoongi repeated.
"Yes ten years ago, now what I am about to tell you is~." I begin to explain only to be cut off by Yoongi again.
"You called us or me here to talk about a case solved ten years ago?" Yoongi repeated yet again in a tone of disbelief.
"YES, what don't you get?" I sighed in frustration. I was beginning to become frustrated with Yoongi's persistent questions as I could not speak.
"A case which was solved ten years ago, Namjoon dragged me out here when I was on my lunch break for~." Before he could get another word in I slapped my hand in front of his mouth, preventing any more questions being asked. Namjoon and I hear him muffle in annoyance before I turned my gaze to face him, a clearly annoyed glare plastered on my face.
"If I remove my hand, you promise me that you will not ask any more questions UNTIL I finish explaining?" I snapped, he slowly nodded his head and I reluctantly let my hand fall from his face.
"Excuse me, your coffees?" A waiter voiced, the three of us instantly turned around and thanked them as the waiter walked away, probably having an odd opinion of our current discussion. I took a sip of my now coolish latte before clearing my throat and beginning to explain. I pulled out the case file and the notes I had taken recently and showed it all to Yoongi and Namjoon.
"What is this? How do you have all this information, its written like it was in the perspective of the victim." Namjoon pointed out as they both scanned my notes.
"That's the thing I wanted to tell you, I~I, I don't know how to explain this." I stopped for a second to recollect myself and to think up of a way to explain to then all that has happened these past few days. "Imettheghostoftheguyfromthecase." I babbled out in a confused state.
"Hang on, slow down, did you just say ghost?"
"Yes?"
"Hahahaha good one." Yoogni chuckled, I sent him a serious glare.
"I think she is being serious." Namjoon pointed out causing Yoongi to halt his laughter.
"Ghost don't exist." Yoongi retorted.
"Just here her out with this one okay?" I thanked Namjoon before explaining my story to them. Throughout this time, they both listened in with curiosity. I think Yoongi was not interested to begin with, but once I began to explain my situation further he began to pay more attention to the story. I could tell by their facial expression that they were finding my story hard to believe but yet again would I lie to them? I didn't have any motive to lie about this and I had a few pieces of evidence to prove my story. I told them about my encounter with Jungkook, the dream, when I asked about authorisation and how Mr Wei reacted. "So you guys up for the challenge of helping me investigate?" I finished off my explanation.
"This story is hard to belive already, maybe investigating it further will prove us wrong, I'm up for the challenge." Namjoon smiled.
"How about you Yoongi?" I gave him a pleading look and he simply rolled his eyes in response.
"I have a feeling you two are going to make me help either way." He spoke in an annoyed tone.
"So that means you will help?" I squeaked in excitement. I slightly jumped up in my chair when he reluctantly nodded 'yes' with a sigh.
"Ahh thank you guys so much, I own you all big time." I cheered before enveloping both of them in a hug. "Now I got to head back to work, I'll see you both soon?" I waved goodbye.
"Yeah see you soon." I hear them reply before the three of us went our separate ways. I happily walked into my department building and took the elevator straight up to my floor to quickly finish off the rest of the cases today so I could head off to the library earlier to search for books for Jungkook to read. I greeted Mrs Kim, my assistant, as I walked down the corridor.
"Good afternoon Mrs Kim, did you have a nice lunch break?" I chirped.
"Fantastic thank you Ms (y/n), you seem happy today?" She laughed once seeing my excited state walz down the corridor.
"Yes I am, my friends just agree to help me with a task," I replied.
"Hahaha thanks, good to hear, I will just hand these files in and meet you at the office, the inspector has gone home for the day." She laughed harder before walking away with the troll of files.
"Okay thank you for letting me know, I will see you later Mrs Kim." I waved off cheerfully. I walked into the office and sat down onto my chair before stretching my arm muscles. "Okay, I've got this." I hyped myself up before getting stuck straight into analysing the cases. I was determined to finish off at least three to four cases before I leave today and that's exactly what I did. I zoomed through each case, not taking a minute of break except for drinks. Once I finished off the last sentence I smiled gleefully before hoping out of my chair and grabbing my bag. "Have a good evening Mrs Kim." I said before exiting the office.
"Same goes to you Ms (y/n)." I hear her reply. I paced through the building and to the library a few blocks away and sighed with relief once I entered the nicely air-conditioned building. My shoulders relaxed as I made my way over to the paranormal section of the shelves. I had no idea where to begin looking so I simply just grabbed a few book here and there from each category such as ghosts or paranormal activity. I ended up with a total of six book before heading to the front desk to borrow them.
"I see you're very interested in the paranormal?" The kind librarian inquired whilst scanning my books.
"Haha yeah, I am doing some research."
"Well good luck." He kindly smiled before handing me the stack of book. I scanned my card and quickly thanking him before grabbing the books and heading to the train station.
I was later then usual today, probably about forty-five minutes but Jungkook wasn't going anywhere so I could take my time. I was just rushing since I was afraid of the library closing earlier. I lugged the six heavy books into the train carriage and sat down on a chair as I loud huff followed afterwards as I felt the weight of the book being relieved. "Did I mention how terrible at English I was when I was alive and attended school?" Jungkook pointed out as he spotted me seated in the carriage.
"Well you had over ten years to improve so here are these books for now." I picked up the books and passed them over to Jungkook as his ghostly figure slowly slumped as each book was added.
"Geez, I'm going to me hitting the books hard tonight, literally." He chuckled.
"Oh and here is a pen and notebook." I remember as I pulled the items out of my bag.
"What do I need these for?" He inquired with confusion.
"To jot down notes." I bluntly pointed out. Finally realising the furnace like tempuratue in the carriage I fanned myself in attempt to cool myself down. "Oh, my gosh it's so hot." I heaved. "Why isn't the coldness created by you affecting me anymore?"
"Maybe because you got used to it, maybe this will help." Jungkook shrugged before placing the books down and placing his non-existent palms on my shoulders. I shuddered from the sudden contact of freezing cold air.
"Ahhh that's nice." I smiled satisfactorily as I let my eyes slowly drift shut.
"So you're forty-five minutes late." Jungkook suddenly voiced causing me to open my eyes as his arms retracted from my body so that he could cross his arms. I whined a little from the contact of hot air hitting my once cold skin.
"Yeah, I was getting those books for you." I pointed to the pile of books on the floor but his arms still remained crossed. "Aww was the grandpa ghost worried for me." I teased, his angered figure instantly changed into an annoyed one.
"No, I was not." He huffed before turning to look away from me.
"Have you already grown attached to my presence." I teased further before hopping up from my seat and poking his figure.
"You try living over tens years with everyone not knowing you exist." He spat back, I continued to poke his figure as I was fascinated by the changing of hot and cold air. "And stop it!" He yelled in frustration as he flung his arms around in annoyance.
"Hahaha, okay, okay." I chuckled before sitting back down. "As long as you promise to keep me cool." I smirked before gesturing him to move his arms over mine like last time.
"I don't remember signing up to be your personal cooler." He said whilst placing his arms so they were hovering over my shoulders.
"Well, you own me." I glared.
"Okay fine." He rolled his eyes in response. "Also whats up with the grandpa nickname?"
"Well, you are technically old enough to be my grandpa you know?" I thought aloud with a smirk.
"For your information, ghosts don't age." He spoke in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Still old." I climbed with a giggle. He was run to tease because his reactions made me laugh.
"Whatever." He gave up as the atmosphere fell silent between us. I then remembered I hadn't told him about how Namjoon and Yoongi agreed to help me out with investigating the case.
"Oh, by the way, Namjoon and Yoongi agreed to help out with the case." I smiled sweetly.
"Really, that's great!" He replied with joy. "So whats the first order of business for the case?"
"I don't think I have told about the dream have I?"
"Nope."
"It must have slipped my mind, well...."
~TBC~
.
You guys basically know she is going to explain to him about her dream about Mr Wei and stuff. Their first order of business for the case is to investigate the number on suspect Mr Wei's son. I just wanted to leave that bit out since it would probably be a bit borning to re-read her explaining to so many people so I cut it short. See you in the next chapter.
