Chapter Five: Painful Recollections
"It was a normal day in October the thirty-first." Jungkook begun, scoffing at his wording as he blinked rapidly. Trying to hold in his frustration and anger. "I had a good life, I had just started training with my vocal teacher." He took a deep breath before swallowing hard. I stood up from my seat, taking a seat next to him, trying to offer him as much comfort I could, without touch. He regained himself as his head laid against the wall of the cart. "I thought it would be safe for me to take a shortcut, how could I be taken, I told myself, its broad daylight. I convinced myself." I watched as he clenched his fist tightly as well as his jaw. I couldn't do it, I couldn't listen to him retell the story to me. If it caused him so much pain to remember, it can wait another time.
"Jungkook, you don't have to tell me now, it can wait." I offered again, looking at him with concern.
"Thanks for the offer again but I know you came here early to listen to this, plus I have to tell you sooner or later, I can do it now." He reassured, just like the last time I asked.
"Are you sure?" He simply sent me a comforting smile before continuing with the story.
"Of course, my thoughts were incorrect, right under the hot rays of the sun, down the alleyway, I was roughly pinned to the wall and a woven sack like the bag was placed over me, blocking my sight. Geez I was so ignorant." He sneered, trying to lighten up the mood. I smiled softly as his gaze turned to mine.
My arm subconsciously lifted up to rest on his shoulder but it didn't. I just went right through him. I quickly apologised causing him to laugh. "It's okay, I know what your intentions were, thank you." He returned my soft smile. "Anyway, I was taken into the van, I tried my hardest to fight back, trying my hardest to escape out of their hands but I just wasn't strong enough. I was locked in a room for who knows how long and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of silent shoes shuffling and whispering. I remember beging so afraid of if I spoke I would be punished."
"So you have a bag over your head the entire time, seeing nothing around the area?" I inquired whilst leaning forwards to grab my notebook and pen.
"No, nothing, sorry." He honestly answered.
"It's okay, it's not your fault."
"At that point I didn't even know what time it was, sitting there thinking of all the things I would have done or people I would have seen if I wasn't so arrogant enough to walk down the alleyway." He sighed deeply before continuing with the story. "After what felt like hours the heavy door which has kept me enclosed opened, before I was roughly pulled into my feet." As he was saying this I made to write everything down, I knew how difficult it was for him recall the moments, so I wanted to write every detail down. In hopes I don't have to ask him to do this again; to save the pain. "I heard them talking about moving me, bosses orders." He quoted. "I don't know how but I somehow managed to get onto the train, I thought it was odd since it there was no rays of sun shining through the fabric bag which was over my head, it was pretty obvious I was being kidnapped but somehow nobody noticed, I don't know where my bravery went during this event but when I decided to speak up it was too late."
"I know I would." I scoffed, how could people miss such an obvious act against law, from what Jungkook described he was being taken on a public train sometime during the evening. It doesn't make sense as to why nobody reported or even spotted this. Maybe there is more to the story then meets the eye.
"I was then roughly pushed into the train, I was there for a while and judging by the people who where guarding me, they had no intentions of killing me on the train but it all changed once the train came to a halt, someone, I don't know entered the train causing everyone in the cart to pay respect. There were a few protests from the men, saying; don't kill him now, wait for when we get to the base but it was all ignored."
"Can you remember how the person sounded like the one they all paid respect to?"
"H~he had a deep raspy voice, sort of like after you finish drinking or smoking but sounded sober." He described, I simply nodded whilst listening to his explanation. Maybe it was Mr Wei's son, yet I have never met him before so I wouldn't know. "My the silence I had kept had for some reason vanished, my idea of not agitating them or saying a word to them vanished and I spoke up for the first time, saying 'who are you', they simply replied with a sinister laugh before kicking my hard in the stomach." As he says his, I watch his gaze fall from the carriage celling to his stomach, I am assuming there he was punched. Coincidentally, the investigators also found bruises in the stomach, it was not from train impact. It was on the kick.
"Well in your file, it says they found serve bruising on your lower left stomach but it was hypothesised it was from train impact." I informed.
"Now you know the truth." He smiled in relief, this means his story so far matched with the autopsy which was always a good sign, it meant the autopsy was done well and maybe something else went along the way whilst the prosecutors were investigating the case. Or if my dream was correct, it was not confirmed by the man or woman in charge or Mr Wei. "I don't know what I was thinking but my mouth continued to run, shooting a snarky remark to the mysterious man who I presumed had kicked me, saying: 'that all you got' I was obviously asking for it as the cart fell silent and a hiss could be heard, coming from the man who had kicked me, I spoke again saying 'what's the matter, cat got your tongue' that was the last thing I said before the man grabbed my forcefully by the neck."
"I knew it." I mumbled, my prediction was correct. There was no way a train could have just bruised a neck so severely, it would have broken it. The puzzle pieces were slowly forming together as Jungkook continued with the story. Everything was falling into place.
"He pinned me against the wall of the cart saying 'you brat, I was going to le you live for a few more minutes but killing you now is better' that was the last thing I ever heard before the pain around my neck became unbearable, I kept telling myself to stay strong and try to say conscious but I couldn't, I was too weak, dying in the mans arms." He finished off. As I finished off jotting all this down in my notebook I looked up to see him shed a few tears.
"Are you okay?" I inquired in a soft tone, he turned to face me and chuckled nervously before whipping his tears away.
"Yeah I'm fine, I wasn't expecting that to be as emotional as it was." He smiled, trying to lighten up the atmosphere.
"Well, thank you, that will really help my investigation." I chirped.
"No worries." He replied shortly, after.
"Now arriving at Seoul Station." I hear the train speakers broadcast, I quickly packed up my things, placing them into my bag before hopping off the train.
"See you later Jungkook." I bid farewell. He waved in responses as his figure could no longer be seen as I walked away.
