27. A New Beginning

When the Barnes family stepped on the grounds of their home, Becca was entranced by it instantly. The young girl had never seen it before, it hadn't been built yet when she was last in Wakanda. Jamie and Peter quickly caught up with Becca, the younger brother wanted to show his sister and her boyfriend their home. And to finally show Becca to the room they had made for her so many years ago.
The other Avengers had all portalled to the palace to rest up, clean themselves and whatever else they needed to do before T'Challa's banquet of celebrations began. But the Barnes family needed to be home before then. Well... the Barnes family and their newest addition much to the White Wolf's dismay, Peter Parker.
Mary and Bucky both smiled from the hilltop that overlooked their home and the goats from Bucky's small farm. He held his wife close to his body as she rested her head on his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist and they watched with love in their eyes as Jamie dragged Peter and Becca into the Barnes family home.
"It hasn't changed." Mary whispers and Bucky looks down at his wife with a curious look in his eyes.
"You haven't been here recently?" Bucky asks. He expected Mary to grieve but to not live in their home? The loss of everyone must've done something horrible to her than Bucky couldn't even fathom.
"No... Jamie and I lived on the Compound with Nat and Steve until he married Evelyn, had Essie and moved out into a home in Brooklyn." Mary explains softly. "It was very lonely. And so quiet." She whispers as she moves her arms to wrap around her frame, her amber eyes tightly closing to try and block out the memories of her time without her precious family.
Bucky moves to wrap his arms around his wife, pulling her tightly to his chest. "That's the past." He whispers back to her. "That'll never happen again, i swear." He vows, though he knows his promises and vows had ended up empty, he wanted this one to stick. And deep down he had a feeling it would.
Though he was sure there would be new challenges and trials, he would face them head on with his beloved Luna, his Gray Wolf, by his side.
Mary nods, her fingers gently lay on her new necklace that Stephen and Tony created before they all left the lake house for Mary to hold the Soul Stone. Her necklace contained the stone itself, her soul. She was still weary about the power she now held within her, she knew certain people who were here in Wakanda now could tell her. She hoped that either Carol or the Guardians could tell her something about the Soul Stones in the past.
The two move down the hillside to their small gravestones they had made for Winnie and their parents when the home was built. Mary looked down at Winnie's gravestone and smiled weakly. Her amber eyes meet Bucky's and he nods, "She's here with us." He reminds his wife with a small smile.
The two stand there, enjoying the breeze of Wakanda's air until Mary gasps, her eyes glowing bright amber, signalling the use of her powers and Bucky's instantly on guard for what's happening. "Luna? What's wrong?" He asks as he holds her arms.
Tears cascade down Mary's face as her powers take control of her for the first time. She doesn't know why it's happening, but she could only feel powerful emotions coming from within her. Love, loss, joy, pain, life and then death.
"Winnie." Mary whispers out as she collapses into her husband's arms. The emotions she had just felt tenfold of, she had felt when Winnie was born and had died moments later. But why? Why these wave of emotions now. Was it because they were remembering their daughter and her powers are tied to her emotions? Mary still didn't understand her powers fully. She was still learning in this short amount of time.
"Piglet? What about her, Doll?" Bucky asks as he holds Mary close. So much was happening but he was thankful it was just himself and his wife, their kids and Peter inside the house.
Mary's eyes widen and still glow vibrantly as she looks around, what her power was doing now becoming clearer in her mind. "I can feel her, James." She mutters in disbelief, "I- I can feel her soul." She stammers. She tells him, still not believing it herself. Was it possible that since her soul was now the Soul Stone, that she could sense other souls? The souls that had passed on?
Mary extends her hands and they begin to glow, and a glowing figure begins to form in front of them slowly. She focuses her energy into the soul in front of them and a bright light flashes them and the sound of something exploding also is heard in front of them and Bucky tightly closes his eyes and shield's Mary from the explosion.
When the dust clears moments later, they hear rustling in front of them. The husband and wife both blink their eyes to adjust their eyesight after the flash of light and their eyes widen in shock. In front of them is a fourteen year old girl. Big, curly blonde hair with bright blue eyes stares back at them in shock as well.
She's slightly shorter than Becca as sits huddled on the brunt ground beneath her. She's scared, but the sight of Mary and Bucky instantly calms the girl.
"Momma... Daddy..." The girl mutters softly, calling to Mary and Bucky. "It's me." She whispers, hoping they could recognize her even though she was older than she should be technically.
"W- Winnie?" Mary mutters in disbelief as she stands up slowly with the help of Bucky. She had no idea what her powers just did, but she had a gut feeling that her powers had connected to Winnie's soul and brought her to them. That her powers from the Soul Stone brought their daughter back from the dead with no body, but transformed her soul into a body.
"Piglet?" Bucky asks and Winnie nods with tears falling from her blue eyes. The parents can't believe their eyes as Winnie races to her parents. The father averted his eyes as she hugged them because she was stark naked. Souls don't need clothes and so he hugs her tightly but then leaves to grab a blanket from the basket on their porch next to the swing. He races back over to his daughter and wife, the daughter he never got the chance to meet, and surrounds her with the warm blanket.
"Sweetheart." Mary whispers and kisses her daughters face all over, causing Winnie to giggle and smile wide.
"Momma!" The blonde girl squeals as Bucky stands with his precious girls in his arms. "Daddy!" Winnie exclaims as she laughs and hugs her father tightly around his neck. "I was always watching over you, Daddy." She tells him, kissing his cheek. Bucky sets his wife and daughter down and looks at Winnie, his metal hand caressing her cheek as he kisses the top of her head.
He smiled as he heard footsteps race out to the porch. "We heard an explosion, are you guys okay?" Peter asks concerned. Becca and Jamie gasp and Peter stares at the new person. Winnie turns to look over at the porch and squeals in delight.
"Jamie... Becca..." Winnie says softly as she stands in between their parents.
Mary and Bucky look down at Winnie then look over at the three kids on the porch, "Baby, Sunshine, Peter." Mary calls them, "I- I'm still figuring out how, but... This is Winnie." She tells them and Becca's eyes widen along with the boys.
"Our sister Winnie?" Jamie asks and Bucky nods.
"Your mother's powers... they extend well beyond what we thought." Bucky says, his mind still wrapping around everything that happened in just the past day. "She can reach out to souls. That's how she found Winnie."
Peter follows behind Becca and Jamie as the two siblings race to embrace their sister. Mary looks over at Peter and smiles. "It's possible i could be a link to souls and people." She says, "Like a medium."
Winnie tightly holds onto her sister and brother with a bright smile. "I- I always looked after you, i could never do anything but i was always watching after you." She tells them, "I was a ghosty i think." She says with a smile and Becca giggles.
"The best ghost ever!" Becca exclaims and then gasps, drawing the eyes around her. "Oh my gosh! Mama, Papa! We have to find Uncle Steve and Buddy!" She shouts and they know she's right.
Mary smiles and nods, "But first, we need to get cleaned up for the banquet."
Jamie grins, nodding and then looks at his sisters and Peter, "Come on!" He exclaims, pulling her sisters inside the house with Peter grinning behind them.
When it's just Mary and Bucky once again they look at each other in amazement. They could still hear the kids talking to Winnie, explaining to them things she had missed or forgotten in her resurgence and it made them smile. Their family was finally complete in so many ways. They had felt it was complete before Winnie came back to them.
"You alright?" Bucky asks Mary softly as the look at each other.
Mary nodded, "Just.. Finally happy." She responds, "I was beyond happy before now.. but-"
"I feel the same. I never knew i could be this happy, this hopeful of the future until today. And you keep surprising me." Bucky tells his wife with a smile, "This new normal will be an adjustment, but one i'm ready to do with you."
"Our new beginning." Mary mutters.
"Our future just got more exciting." Bucky says as he dips his head and kisses his wife for the first time since the both had found each other again. Their lips mold together as if no time had passed between them. That their passion never faded. They felt as if they could conquer anything that was thrown their way. As long as they had each other by their side.
The Barnes family was now truly, wholeheartedly, and undoubtedly complete.

Mary smiled proudly at her family as they entered the banquet hall of the palace. All eyes turned to look at the Barnes family and were stunned. Bucky and Mary stood proudly side by side in their formal wear. Bucky was wearing a dress shirt unbuttoned a few at the top with a dark blue suit jacket and pants and his hair in a half up half down style. Mary linked her arm with her husband's as she stood in a new dress. Her dress was a rose gold, floral lace gown that was semi sheer at the shoulders and a floral lace sleeve. Her hair was pulled up into a messy but fancy bun on the top of her head.
Becca stood beside her father in a blush pink, polka dotted gown and her hair had been slightly curled at the ends. Peter stood beside Becca, her arm linked with his and he smiled at her, he was wearing an all black ensemble. He wore a black t-shirt with a leather jacket and black jeans.
Standing next to Peter was Jamie who beamed at his family, he was dressed in a simple, checkered, short sleeved dress shirt and nice blue jeans.
Beside Mary stood Winnie, smiling shyly at those that had eyes on her. Her mess of curls was pulled into a ponytail with a bow on the top, her dress was a silver toned, knee length dress and small heels to match.
Everyone was stunned into silence as they questioned who the blonde was. Until Steve recognized the family eyes and hair on Winnie and rushed over to his sister and her family.
His arm had been stitched and bandaged thanks to his wife and he donned his own formal wear, but he had to know who the girl was. Tony was also curious and left Pepper and Morgan as he walked over to greet his mother and family.
"New addition?" Tony asks and Winnie looks over at her older brother with a small smile. She had never had this many eyes on her... ever. She didn't know how to act in public, with her family it was one thing, but this was something entirely new.
Mary smiles at her eldest son, "You wouldn't believe me if i told you." She teases him and Tony rolls his eyes and Steve stands before his sister.
"Try us." Steve says back. Mary looks at her blonde daughter and nods, telling her it's okay. Even though Winnie knew who Tony and Steve were, she was still shy about meeting them in this huge setting.
Winnie looks up at her brother and uncle with a small smile and waves, "It's nice to finally meet you, Big Brother, Uncle Steve." She greets them quietly and it takes both men a couple minutes for it to register in their minds who was in front of them. The blonde in the family giggles softly and her smile begins to grow as her brother and uncle's eyes widen in realization.
"No..." Tony mutters in disbelief, "Winnie?" He questions and Winnie nods.
Steve's eyes cloud with tears as he pulls his niece into his arms, kissing the top of her head. "Sarah." He whispers softly and Winnie sighs with contentment in her uncle's arms as she wraps her own around him tightly.
"That's me." She says, looking up at her uncle and then over to her brother, "Sarah Winnifred Barnes."
"How?" Tony asks as Steve reluctantly let Tony hug her now and Mary smiles.
"My powers. Again." Mary answers, "I felt a pull on my soul, on the stone, my emotions were so high and i felt everything i had felt the day Winnie was born. And then there was a flash of light and an explosion." She says and then Bucky continues.
"When the dust settled Piglet was sitting there in a small crater made by the force of her soul becoming a tangible body, i think." Bucky states from his own theory. "Mary thinks she could be like a medium, a bridge between souls and the living."
"Do you think you could bring others back to life?" Tony asks.
Mary hesitates, she knew how many people surrounding her had lost loved ones. But she also knew that people who were dead and had passed on didn't always want to come back to the living. She had the gut feeling that Winnie was a one time thing because she didn't want to tamper with the will of life and death. She wasn't going to abuse her new powers like that.
"If i can, i don't want to." Mary says softly, "I'm sorry. But i won't tamper with the balance of life and death." She tells them and her family nods in understanding. They were beginning to know the extent Mary's powers were capable of slowly, and they didn't want to push her and wind up hurting herself. "I didn't even plan on Winnie coming back."
"A happy accident." Steve says with a smile and chuckles, "Just like when she was conceived." He teases and Mary's cheeks flush pink and Bucky coughs, looking away slightly.
"Steve!" Mary exclaims embarrassed and Tony laughs.
Soon the family laughs together and after the family has their own private introductions, Winnie is introduced to the Avengers, all of them shocked but incredibly happy for Mary to finally be getting the life they all knew she was due for. The happiness they were all due for. And as Winnie met those closest to her family, she felt the sense of comfort she hadn't ever felt before.
Winnie was home.
