18. I Love You 3,000

Mary sat quietly beside her brother as Nat and Scott sat across from the Rogers siblings as they watched Bruce eat food that could feed about fifty people. During the five years, Bruce had altered himself and the Hulk to become one with each other. Bruce now had the body and look of the Hulk while still maintaining his mind. Mary remembers when he had contacted her to tell her about it all. How it was his way to ensure he wouldn't fail again. It still was a sight to behold, Mary had never seen Bruce in person since the transformation. He had told her that he could no longer make it Sunday Night Avengers Dinner, he was the first to stop coming, then Thor. It was something that had caused Mary to dive further into her depression.

It was a shock for all four of them who were just watching him in this moment. Before they had met up with Bruce, Mary had talked with Pepper and Evelyn into watching Jamie for her. Mary's son knew his mother would go off and try to bring back their family. He wanted her to.

Tony swore to his mother he'd protect his brother. Mary trusted her sons to look after each other and for Jamie to help out around the home when needed. Her son was good like that, pure and wholesome. He was an easy child and an even better son than Mary could have ever asked for. He thought as an adult would, though he was still only eight years old. He still retained the childlike wonder and the fact that he was still a kid. Not even ten years old yet, and already he was willing to give up his mother so that the universe had a chance to be whole again.

"Come on, I feel like i'm the only one eating here. Try some of that." Bruce says with a mouth full of food. He gestures to one of the plates for Scott who simply stares in shock and confusion, "Have some eggs."

"I'm so confused." Scott states bluntly and Mary laughs as her hand goes to her mouth to try and hide her laughter. Steve glances down at his sister as his arm rests behind her in their booth. His want to protect her never wavering. Scott was a breath of fresh air for all of them right now and they needed that.

"These are confusing times." Bruce rebuttals with a chuckle as he grabs more bacon off a plate.

"Right, no, no. That's not what i- i meant..." Scott stammers, clearly intimidated by Bruce and still confused.

"Nah, I get it. I'm kidding!" Bruce says with a smile, then gesturing to himself, "I know, it's crazy. I'm wearing shirts now."

Mary chuckles softly as Scott still is the only one to speak. "Yeah. What? How? Why?"

"Five years ago, we got our asses beat. Except it was worse for me... in a manner of ways..." Bruce clarifies as Mary's eyes narrow slightly at Bruce, he knew that she had lost so much because of Thanos. And Bruce wanted to make sure he knew that, but that he had lost a part of himself literally. "Cause i lost twice. First, Hulk lost, then Banner lost, and then, we all lost."

"No one blamed you, Bruce." Mary says softly with a weak smile, Natasha nodding in agreement.

Bruce looks between the two women, "I did." He mutters to them and Natasha looks down at her hands. Mary leans into her brother slowly and Steve rests his arm around her shoulders. "For years, i've been treating the Hulk like he's some kind of disease, something to get rid of. But then, i start looking at him as the cure. Eighteen months in the gamma lab. I put the brains and the bawn together, and now look at me. Best of both worlds." Bruce explains to the four friends around him.

Mary watches as three kids come up to Bruce, she smiles softly at them as they converse with Bruce for a picture. Bruce hands the phone to Scott who awkwardly takes the picture. As he hands the phone back he smiles nervously at the kids, "Did you want to grab one with me? I'm Ant-Man." None of the kids react in any way and Scott takes that as a no from them. He tries to shake off the hurt pride he's feeling. Bruce tries to help Scott but it only makes the kids more awkward standing there beside Bruce.

"Bruce." Mary mutters, catching the big guy's attention, she simply shakes her head and he nods slowly as Scott hands the phone back to the kids. When the kids walk away, Steve reigns back the conversation.

"About what we were saying." Steve mutters.

Bruce nods, "Right. The whole time travel do-over? Eh, guys, it's outside of my expertise." He warns them.

Natasha shrugs, raising an eyebrow, "Well, you pulled this off." She teases him, "I remember when there was a time when that seemed pretty impossible, too."

Mary watches as Bruce begins to contemplate it and she glances up at her brother. He smiles down at her and uses his hand that isn't on her shoulder to brush a strand of hair from her face. He had missed his sister terribly. His sister that lived for her family and herself. Not the shell of who she once was now. She was laughing more than she had in months, years even. She was smiling, for the most part. And she had hope again. That was what made him believe they could pull this off. Was because it brought hope back to his sister, the one person who had stuck by him since her birth. The dynamic Rogers siblings. The unbreakable bond they shared was irreplaceable. No one would fill the hole his sister had made in his heart. And in hers.

Jamie smiled up at his brother as he helped dry the dishes from dinner. Morgan and Esme had gone to bed while Evelyn and Pepper were reading their books by the fireplace in the living room.

The brother bonding time was something both of them looked forward to, no matter what it looked like. Jamie gasps as Tony lets loose the sink hose and it sprays water around them. The older brother fumbles to put the plate he was holding down in the dish drainer. Jamie grabs a towel from the counter and hands it to his brother with a soft smile.

Tony smiles back at his brother and then glances up at the shelf above Jamie. He stands there, staring at the pictures in front of him until he grabs one picture that had himself, Peter and Becca in the frame. Peter was smiling wide as he held his framed Stark Industries accomplishment in his hand, upside down. Becca was standing in between her brother and her former boyfriend. Jamie looked at them in the picture. He smiled softly as he often wondered how Peter acted and spoke. He had never met Peter, Jamie had only met his sister once the day he was born.

Their smiles were wide in the picture. Jamie felt the happiness radiating off the people in the frame. But Tony felt other emotions. He felt those of regret, failure, sadness, and above all, loss. Tony looks over at his brother slowly, the older of the two brothers didn't even need to say anything. Jamie simply knew his brother that well. The boy wonder who could remember everything since the day he was born.

Jamie beams at his brother. He knew he was going to try and help their mother. He just knew it. "I'll make the cocoa." Jamie says as he grabs their designated mugs from the cupboard. "Extra cinnamon and whipped cream this time, too!" He says as Tony is smiling to himself as he walks over to his work table.

As the two brothers work together, Tony looks up at his hologram. "I've got a mild inspiration. I'd like to see if it checks out." Tony mutters quietly to Friday as Jamie flips through his book, smiling as he looks up at his brother from time to time. "So, i'd like to run one last sim before we pack it in for the night. This time, in the shape of a Mobius strip, inverted, please."

"Processing." Friday responds.

Tony and Jamie watch Friday work at the table and Tony looks at the design intensely, trying to figure out some way it could possibly work. "Right, give us the eigenvalue of that particle factoring in spectral decomp." He states, as he takes a sip of his cocoa. "That'll take a second."

"Just a moment." Friday responds again.

"And don't worry if it doesn't pan out. I'm just kinda..." Tony trails off but before he could speak anymore, Friday speaks first.

"Model rendered." She tells the brothers. Tony watches as the hologram shows that the model was successful. Tony's eyes widen as he falls into his chair.

"Eddie?" Jamie questions but all Tony does is swear.

"Sh-!" Tony exclaims in shock.

"Sh-!" A higher pitched voice echos the cuss word and both brothers turn to the stairs to see one Morgan Stark sitting on the stairs with a smile on her face.

Tony goes pale as he had just heard his daughter swear. He presses his pointer finger to his lips, shaking his head. "What are you doing up, Little Miss? You could wake, Es."

Morgan smirks at her father, "Sh-." She repeats her father and Jamie laughs under his breath.

"Nope. We don't say that. Only Mommy says that word. She coined it. It belongs to her." Tony retorts his daughter as he playfully shoves his little brother who is still laughing.

"I don't think Pepper coined that word, Eddie." Jamie teases and Tony playfully narrows his eyes.

"Why are you two up?" Morgan asks curiously.

"Cause we've got some important sh- going on here!" Tony swears again and both Jamie and Morgan tilt their heads skeptically at him, "What do you think? No, i got something on my mind and Uncle Sven was helping me out."

Morgan smirks at her uncle and father, "Was it juice pops?"

Tony and Jamie make eye contact and smile at each other, "Sure was." Jamie teases and stands up, closing his book and placing it on the table before he goes over to Morgan.

"That's extortion. That's a word." Tony tells his brother and daughter as he stands and makes his way over to the freezer. "What kind you two want? Great minds think alike. Juice pops exactly..." He pauses as both heads turn to look back at the hologram model, "was on my mind." Tony mutters.

When the three of them finish their juice pops in Morgan's room, Tony smiles at his daughter as Jamie chuckles at his brother from the doorway, "Tell me a story." Morgan mumbles.

"You know Uncle Sven is better at stories than me." Tony reminds his daughter but she shakes her head, wanting her father. He sighs and then looks at his daughter, "Once upon a time, Moguna went to bed. The end."

"That is a horrible story." Morgan and Jamie say in unison.

Tony scoffs in disbelief, "Come on, that's your favorite story." He teases his daughter who blinks her eyes at him, not having any of his sarcasm. Tony leans over to kiss his daughter on her forehead, "Love you tons." He tells Morgan.

"I love you three thousand." Morgan tells her father and Tony smiles at his precious daughter. It took having Morgan for Tony to realize the love Mary had for him, Becca and Jamie could be so powerful. The love you give to your child and the love you get in return. It stunned him everyday how someone so pure and precious could love someone like him, who had made so many mistakes.

Tony stands up and turns off her lamp as he heads out the door, "Three thousand. That's crazy." He tells her then as he and Jamie walk out the doorway, Tony closes the door and says, "Go to bed or i'll sell all your toys." He teases his daughter and Jamie laughs at his brother's antics.

He looks over as Tony now walks Jamie into his own room for bedtime. "We'll be okay, Eddie." Jamie tells his brother.

"Huh?" Tony murmurs under his breath, "What do you mean?"

Jamie rolls his eyes, "Still trying to lie to me?" He retorts and Tony sighs dejectedly. "You know what i mean. We'll still be here when you get back, Eddie. With Umama and everyone else."

Tony sighs again and looks at his brother as Jamie climbs into his bed, he holds tightly to his panther stuffy. The younger brother knew there wasn't a way for Tony to not help their mom now that he had found a way to travel through the quantum realm safely. "I should know better than to lie to you." Tony mutters. The two brothers both know that Tony didn't need to be talked into doing it, he needed to be talked out of doing it. But that wasn't Jamie's place to help decide. All he could give was his perspective of the situation.

"Pepper might help, she always has." Jamie suggests, "But if you want to know what i think, i think you owe it to Umama to try. Morgan, Essie, Pepper, me... we'll all still be here when you get back. You can't get rid of us." Tony smiles weakly at his brother, his too smart for his age brother. He walks over to Jamie and places his hand on his head, smoothing his hair slightly as he pulls Jamie's head into his chest. Jamie wraps his arms around Tony and smiles weakly. "Umama never got the life she deserved. She had it for a few years, but that was it. And not completely." Jamie mumbles as Tony sits on the edge of Jamie's bed, Esme sleeping on the other side of the bed beside her cousin. "She had me and Baba, no Becca, and no you. Uncle Steve was on the run most of the time too. Her family was never and has never been complete. Isn't it time Umama gets her happy ending?"
