seven
nari found herself up late way later the others. by 3 am, the four boys were fast asleep while she stared at the ceiling of jaemins living room. finally deciding sleep wasn't going to happen, she sat up and looked at the boys who were each sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor. they refused to let nari sleep on the floor, so she ended up taking the couch.
the only light source came from the moon peaking through the window, which barely luminated the room. 3:12 am, the clock wrote. nari sighed and began feeling envious at how quickly her friends fell asleep. she slowly pulled the blanket off of her and put her feet on the ground, standing up. she stepped over them quietly, careful not to wake up, and successfully made her way to the kitchen.
she filled a glass with tap water and drank it to quench her thirst and moisten her dry throat. after finishing it, she placed the glass gently in the sink before going back to her spot.
light snores were heard, but nari couldn't tell who they were coming from, nor did she really care. it's not like she was falling asleep anytime soon, anyways. she lied back on her side, pulling the covers up close to her and sighed quietly. she closed her eyes and listened to the breathing of the four guys sleeping at the side of her as a way to relax. to her surprise, it worked, because she was eventually out like a light.
at 7 am on the dot, naris eyes fluttered open due to the sun shining right onto her face. she pulled the blanket even further to where it covered her face and attempted to go back to sleep, but after a while, she found herself wide awake.
nari huffed loudly and pulled her face out of the blanket, sitting up and turning to look at her friends who were still passed out in the exact same positions as they night before. nari figured they must have been exhausted to not move a muscle while they slept.
she lied there on her phone for at least an hour until renjun started to move in his sleep and eventually woke up himself.
"morning," he mumbled to nari, running his hands through his hair to get knots out.
"good morning." she greeted back.
"did you sleep okay?"
"yeah, pretty good," she may have been lying, but she didn't want him to feel bad that she didn't sleep great. it was her and her bad sleeping habits fault after all.
"you can close that if it's too bright," renjun offered with a light chuckle, referring to the way she shielded her face with her hands from the sun.
"that would probably be a good idea," nari nodded with slight embarrassment that she didn't think of that sooner and leaned forward to close the curtains.
renjun grabbed his phone at the side of him while nari did the same and they both lied there scrolling. nari kept her phone at a very low volume while she watched tiktoks, and renjun silently scrolled through his instagram feed.
after a while, the others woke up one by one and finally everyone was wide awake.
"i want food," haechan yawned loudy, stretching out his arms.
"we could go to starbucks? it's like right over there," jaemin suggested as he pointed his arm in one direction, earning a quick nod from the boy.
none of them had the energy to change, so they slipped on their sweatshirts and shoes instead, nari putting on her own as well over the clothes jaemin gave her to sleep in. after moments of procrastination, they left his house. they walked in silence for a few minutes as it was still too early in the morning for most of them.
nari had kept her head down, staring at her feet as she walked. there was one split moment where she looked up and back down, before immediately looking back up again and stopping in her tracks. she frowned in utter confusion at the way his street was completely empty. jaemin looked next to him to say something and when he noticed she wasn't there, he turned his head.
"nari? you okay?" he asked, still not noticing what she was seeing.
"am i tripping? or is there not a single car on this street?" the short girl asked in return.
the four of them had finally seen what she was seeing, and the same lost expression grew on their faces. the only sound that was heard was the wind, and a slight whistle that came with it. the sky was beginning to turn grey and suddenly the friend group found themselves creeped out. afraid, even.
"what the fuck is going on?" donghyuck asked.
not knowing what to do, or think, jaemin urged the group to keep walking. "let's just head to starbucks for now."
nari stuck close to her friends as they walked, even if there was not a single visible soul present. this may have been creeping her out more than it should, but how do you explain something like that?
"what the fuuuuck," jaemin cursed, dragging out his sentence with a dropped jaw at the sight of the vacant starbucks in front of them.
a long breath left naris mouth as they stood and stared. "it's because of your stupid wish, jeno." donghyuck snapped, swiftly smacking his hand against the back of jenos head.
"ow? how is this my fault? if your money wish didn't work, why would i think that my crazy ass wish would? and it's not like i did it on purpose." jeno argued back, shoving the boys shoulder back lightly.
"okay, this is seriously not the time for fighting," jaemin scolded, pushing the two back from each other. his eyes landed on nari, who's own orbs had been glued to the café in front of her, zoned out.
"hey," he said gently, grabbing her attention. "don't be scared."
nari looked up at him with her finger nail stuck between her teeth in a nervous habit. "i'm not... it's just a little freaky."
"well, we can fix this, right? we can wish everything back to normal?" renjun asked. the four other stayed silent, not knowing for sure if that would work because they hadn't tried to reverse their wishes yet.
"there's only one way to find out."
they had never walked so quickly to their little spot, desperate to fix whatever it was they did. it was completely unordinary that practically everyone had just disappeared with no explanation whatsoever. as they passed more streets, houses, and shops, there was still no person or car in sight. it was like the entire world was missing, besides them.
a cold breeze formed around them as they entered the abandoned building, due to the sun now being shielded from the broken roof that was somehow still in tact.
jeno anxiously drew in a breath before exhaling. they sat in a circle with all eyes on him. "i wish for everything to go back to normal."
after the wish, everything somehow managed to get quieter than before. the silence was so loud it was deafening, which had them even more freaked out than before.
"my parents..." renjun sighed, suddenly remembering his parents were likely missing like everyone else. his eyes became glossy and nari couldn't continue to look at him as a tear fell from his face, feeling too guilty.
jaemins face fell soft as placed his hand on the boys shoulder. "we're gonna be okay."
