The Peasant-Like Princess
A father and daughter spent their nights before bed reading stories. That night, the father was reading a story about a princess's journey to save a prince. It was the daughter's favorite story.
The daughter asked, "Do princesses have to have blonde hair?"
"Of course not," the father replied. "You're a princess and you have brown hair."
"That's not what the girls at school say. They say that I'm a peasant because I have ugly brown hair."
The father didn't speak. He knew that the daughter wasn't hurt by those words. In years she wouldn't even remember them. But the father would. He'd lay awake at night thinking about his daughter that didn't feel like a princess, and wonder if he could've done something to help.
Yikes, WAY over the word count limit, but I couldn't help myself.
Written in 126 words.
