siren song
"Did she just tell those to guys to fight each-other?" Ethan asked Erica, as they watched the two jocks begin to push one another.
"What?! Why won't people fight over me when I tell them to!" Erica whined. "I've gotta figure out that vampire mind control."
"You mean glamouring? Because I doubt-"
"Ethan, do my homework." Erica said, her eyes turning a bright yellow.
"Erica..."
"Yeah?"
"No!"
Erica frowned.
"Five, six, seven, eight, spin, pop-" Sarah said.
"No! Pop's not after spin, we spin again then we pop." Olivia cut her off.
"Then what? Side, bust?"
Olivia nodded. "Let's try again."
"What's happening here?" Ethan asked Erica, looking the two girls.
"Sarah made Olivia and I work on a dance routine for the talent show." Erica responded, pretending to stick her finger down her throat. "They're practicing for the try-outs, but I'm ditching them!" She grinned, before walking away.
"So, you gonna see me, Olivia and Erica dance up a storm?" Sarah asked Ethan, raising an eyebrow.
"No, I'm not really much for storms of the dancing variety."
Olivia looked at Sarah and laughed before the two made their way to the auditorium.
Sarah and Olivia were sat down, using a branch to share their earphones, practising their dance moves. The two were so distracted, they didn't realise that the girl performing was making everyone fight one another. They both stopped once the lights went out and Olivia took out one earphone. "What just happened?"
"The depths of my pain require more base." The girl said back.
"That's the first time a song has given me an ice cream headache." Vice Principal Stern said, rubbing his forehead. "You're in!"
Rory then came and sat beside Olivia, he looked as if he'd just been electrocuted. "Sorry the power went out, I just got the urge to bite something. Whatever it was tasted really sparky." He touched his tooth with his finger and jumped when he saw a small spark.
The two girls looked at each-other, completely perplexed. "Okay, something's not right."
***
"No, Rory, you don't have electricity stuck in your teeth." Sarah laughed.
"Phew." Rory sighed.
"So I come back for my apple run and all the auditions are over." Benny said, with gritted teeth, still holding his apples.
"The line for the nurses office is out the door." Ethan exclaimed. "What happened?"
"Serena sang a beautiful song." Rory answered, taking out his phone and handing it to Ethan so he could watch the video.
"Test, test," She then began to screech and the teenagers winced.
"That's not what I heard." Rory said, taking his phone back. "There must be something wrong with my phone."
"Good thing we had earphones in." Olivia said to Sarah, covering her ears.
"Or something wrong with Serena." Sarah corrected. Ethan nodded.
"First, the football team riots in the lounge and then the talent show try-out turns into the boss level of Mega Fight IIII." Ethan explains and the group walked down the school hallway.
"Quit with the video game references." Olivia rolled her eyes.
"I felt like I was in a trance but I forgot the song as soon as it was over." Rory chimed in.
"Maybe she's Justin Bieber." Ethan joked, earning a fist punch from Rory.
"Maybe she's a mermaid..." Benny said.
"The Bieber joke was funnier." Olivia said to her boyfriend.
"No, I'm serious. Mermaids can mess sign people's minds and hide their tails on land." Benny stated. "We just need to splash some water on her and see if she grows fins - it's easy!"
"Whatever, Olivia and I have practice to do, just call us whenever you need us to kick her butt, okay?" Sarah said, putting in her earphones.
"She doesn't have a butt! Mermaids don't have butts!" Benny laughed.
Sarah and Olivia looked at each-other before shaking their heads and walking away, only to find Erica staring at her locker.
"Did you punch that?" Sarah asked.
"I know you're really mad at me for ditching you two at the try-outs 'cause I thought our dance routine was lame and didn't want to do it-"
"What?!" Sarah and Olivia cut her off.
"But now, I am totally into it! Serena is going to see who has talent!"
"Wait, you ditched us?" Sarah repeated.
"Stop living in the past, Sarah. What matters now is that we've got moves to bust. Oh, yeah, buddy!" Erica said, punching the air and walking away. Sarah and Olivia sighed before following her.

Later that evening, Olivia walked into Ethan's house. "Hey, Ethan? Benny? You upstairs?" Olivia called up the stairs.
Benny heard her and ran to the staircase. "Oh, hey, Olivia! I just came up with the best idea before Ethan! Are you proud?"
Olivia laughed and walked up the stairs. "What am I, your mom? Yes, I'm very proud of you. Let me guess, you came up with the idea to terminate a jerk before Ethan."
Benny shook his head. "Serena effected Ethan pretty bad and I've put him in his wardrobe with a pair of headphones for him to get better whilst I play his video games. I came up with the idea that Serena's a siren, from Ancient Greece and that we should analyse one of her songs. All we need to do is build the equipment."
"That's great, Benny! You know, you could be on to something." Olivia grinned.
"Exactly! Now I just need to convince everyone that I came up with it first."
"That's nice, but I need to ask you something."
Benny raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Well, we've been on one proper date and it was kind of a Benny-style date, I think I should take you out on an Olivia-style date."
"Oh no! You are not taking me out to bite people-!" Benny panicked.
Olivia laughed, cutting her boyfriend off. "Don't worry, that's not what I had in mind. I'm gonna surprise you, trust me, you'll love it." She grinned.
Benny nervously nodded. "Okay... as long as it doesn't involve me drinking blood, or throwing up because of the speed you're running at."
Olivia chuckled and rolled her eyes. "It'll be fine, don't worry, just come round mine next Thursday. Now, let me help you out with Serena."
***
"Rory! This is what my name looks like: Rrrooooorrrryyyyy!" Rory said into the device Benny picked up from Ethan's.
"Will you grow up?!"
Olivia scoffed. "Benny, have you seen what you've got on your head?" She asked, looking at his ton foil hat that made him look like a garden gnome.
"It's aluminium foil, to keep Serena's crazy waves out of my brain." Benny corrected.
Rory paused for a moment before running off, knowing he definitely needed one.
"Ethan said earplugs were fine but I'm not take any chances." Benny said to Sarah, who just joined them, and Olivia.
"Where is Ethan?" Sarah asked, realising dork #2 was no where to be seen.
"I ordered him to sit this one out. He needs to recover after his showdown with Serena." Benny explained.
"Benny, is my hat tight enough?" Rory said, gasping for air as ran back into the room. Benny adjusted it a little before pulling it over his eyes and nodding. "Yeah."
"Thanks, pal!"
"Hey, guys." Ethan said, walking in just as the show was about to start.
"What are you doing here you can't risk more exposure to Serena's song!" Benny hissed.
"When we were eight and we went to see Buzzy and The Big Bee Band, and I cried?" Ethan asked.
Olivia and Rory laughed. "You cried?" Both of their expressions went serious once they saw the look on Ethan's face, which was saying not the time.
"Would you let me face the music alone?" Ethan finished.
Benny looked at his best friend and nodded. "Thank you," They both held out their arms and took hold of one another's "brother."
Olivia and Rory noticed Serena walking onto the stage and snapped Benny and Ethan out of their moment.
"Earplugs, engage." Benny said, taking out a spare pair for Olivia.
"Good job, guys, good job." Ethan said, although none of them could hear him. Serena began to sang.
Olivia's eyes widened at the ultrasonics.
"The ultrasonics are off the scale!" Ethan said, staring wide eyed, like Olivia.
"What?" Benny asked.
"There's definitely something going on here."
Olivia watched everyone begin to fight when Sarah ran at Ethan, knocking his headphones off. Ethan stood up and charged at Olivia.
"Man, I hate this emo junk." Benny said.
"What?!" Rory yelled.
"What?!"
Ethan held up a container and was about to throw it at Olivia before Sarah pushed him away. "What's wrong with you?!"
Ethan ignored Sarah and ran for Olivia again, but she punched him in the stomach and he fell to the floor, groaning in pain. As soon as Olivia realised what she'd done she ran over to Ethan. "Oh my God, Ethan, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-"
Ethan cut her off by throwing her onto the floor beside him and climbing on top of her, pinning her down. She took out her earphones, yelling at him to get off of her.
"Thanks for listening." Serena smiled, walking off the stage.
Everyone who had previously been fighting, looked around, confused to what just happened. Ethan and Olivia stared at each-other awkwardly before Ethan scrambling to his feet. He held his hand out for Olivia, which she willingly took and let him pull her up.
"What the hell happened to you to?" Benny asked, looking at the two.
Ethan rubbed his head and Olivia scratched the back of her neck before shrugging. "One minute, everything's okay, the next, Ethan's trying to attack me and I fight back. We have to sort this Serena girl out."
***
"Serena's voice is full of paranormal acoustic energy." Ethan said, looking at the ultrasonics displayed on his computer. "It's affecting people's brains!"
Olivia finished putting Rory's headset on along with a pair of headphones before nodding. "You're good to go."
Rory got up from Ethan's bed and took his place on the chair beside Sarah.
"So this is Rory's normal brain waves; pretty dead."
"I'm laid back, dude, why stress?" Rory shrugged.
"A bit of classical music and Rory's nice and calm." Benny said, turning on some classical music. Rory took a deep breath and sighed. "But, when I play even a second of Serena's song..."
Rory unleashed his fangs and held out his fist, trying to bite it. Sarah immediately reached out and pulled it away from him whilst Benny stopped the music. "And Rory tries to bite his fist off." Olivia says.
"So, Serena's a siren, how do we stop her?" Sarah questioned.
"Well, according to Greek methodology and Wikipedia, the siren lost their singing contest to Muses and was destroyed by their own jealousy." Ethan explained.
"Too bad we don't know the Muses' agent." Rory sighed.
Ethan thought for a moment before he had a plan. "Why don't we become the Muses? We get into that talent show and when she turns on us, we use her own song against her!"
"How? I mean, what if she likes her gaaahhh a voice?" Benny asked, screeching to imitate the Siren's voice.
"Hmm, we could rig up a phase inverter and send a negative image of her own evil harmonics right back at her!" Ethan said, holding up at sheet of paper that said INVERTED PHASE CANCELLATION with a graph.
"The old evil harmonic phase inverter trick! Could work!" Benny grinned, snapping his finger at Ethan.
"Yeah! We should totally invert her face!" Rory said, causing Olivia to roll her eyes. "But, how do we get on the show and be good enough to make her jealous?"
"And we'd have to get really close for the phase inverter to even work." Benny added.
"It's simple; music today is all done on computers - we just gotta figure out the formula for the perfect song." Ethan shrugged.
"Okay... well just incase you three don't become the hottest boyband of all time, Olivia and I will go tell Erica that we may need some more kicks in our dance routine." Sarah said, looking at Olivia, who nodded.
"Good idea." Ethan said, as Sarah and Olivia ran off to find Erica.
***
"So, you guys girls ready?" Erica smirked. Olivia and Sarah grinned before the three strode into the room.
"Hey, Stern! You ready for a dance explosion?" Erica asked, the three spinning around before putting their hands out and popping their hips to the side.
"No. I'm ready to have a hot cup of tea and my ears flushed." He responded, looking over to the boys before smiling and walking out. "Goodbye."
Erica hissed at Stern once his back was turned.
***
"So we're just gonna hang around backstage like losers?" Erica groaned.
"We're here to help." Olivia said.
"Yeah, once Serena hits the stage then things are gonna get crazy." Sarah stated.
"If she opens her mouth again, things will get crazy." Erica threatened.
"You're really mad." Sarah folded her arms.
"Yeah, of course I am!" Erica said, throwing her arms up in the air before walking to the side of the stage.
"Good evening. Welcome to the 15th annual Whitechapel talent show." Stern sighed, everyone applauded. "If you could keep your applause to a minimum we'll get out here in no time. Okay, our students will now display a variety of skills none of which will land them jobs in the future."
"Thanks for helping with my hair, I can't really use a mirror." Rory said to Benny, who was laughing at the ridiculous mo-hawk he styled with two whole bottles of hair gel and some of Olivia's hairspray. He chuckled. "Anytime, champ."
"Stay still," Olivia said to Benny. "I'm just tying the knot." She finished tying up Benny's bandana before walking around to face the front of him. "Perfect. You look hot."
Benny grinned. "Thanks." He said, Olivia kissed his cheek before going back to joining Sarah and Erica.
Rory looked at Benny with jealousy. "How come I can't get a girl as easy as you can?"
Benny scanned Rory up and down before shrugging. "Honestly, it boggles my mind."
"Hey, Rory, your mom's here right next to your grandmother." Ethan said.
"Oh, that's not good."
"Yeah, I'm worried about my grandma too..."
"No, you don't understand, I'm worried about everyone else! My mom can really throw 'em!"
"Will your grandma back us up when the magic starts flying?" Ethan asked Benny, who scoffed. "No chance! As soon as the music starts playing that hearing aid is going off. She hates anything without an accordion in it."
"Thank you, Marny, now if you could disappear that would be great." Stern said, clearly not having a fun time. "Before we get to our show-stopper, here is an act that can only be described as..." He looked to the boys.
Benny held out his cape and grinned, earning a few woos and small applauds.
"Next: MC MonsterBat's: Musatronics."
"Musatronics!" The boys yelled in unison.
"Hit it, Benny!" Rory said, Benny began to harshly hit the drums as Ethan sang.
"Hey, I heard about your little dance implosion, whoops." Serena said to the girls, smirking as she walked past.
Erica lunged at Serena, but Sarah pulled her back. "Ignore her. She'll be toast in a few minutes."
"I still hate her." Olivia muttered, she then focused on the boys, who were currently on stage and had to put her hand over her mouth to stop herself from laughing. "Looks like Rory's about to drop a sick mixtape." Olivia joked, pointing at him.
"The thing after dinner, you've been waiting for. The flavour gets your feet tapping on that floor. You never wanna finish all your brussel sprouts, but the treat that's coming makes you scream and shout: Uh, uh! Gotta get that cake! Yeah, yeah, gotta eat that cake!"
"Yeah, pop and lock, honey!" Olivia heard his mom yell.
"Come on, now, who wants some cake?" Rory finished off his rap.
"I want some caaaaake!" Ethan sang into the microphone. Rory then attempted to do the worm. "Is he trying to do the worm is he just dry-humping the floor?" Olivia asked, earning laughs from her friends.
The whole crowd began to applaud.
"These people are mine!" Serena yelled.
"Okay, well, she's mad." Benny said to Ethan, still playing the drums. "I guess we got that right."
Serena strode onto the stage, singing. The boys immediately pulled out their earphones.
"Stop it! These people need to feel my pain! And so do you!" She hissed, continuing to sing.
Erica and Olivia, however didn't have earphones and clutched their ears in pain. They instantly felt the urge to hurt someone. Their eyes turned a different colour and they hissed, their fangs on show. Olivia picked up a speaker and threw it at the boys, hitting Ethan's keyboard. "I'll hold them back, you deal with Serena!" Sarah told Ethan, trying to push Olivia and now Erica back.
Whilst everyone was fighting, Evelyn continued to knit, as her hearing aid was still off, and the boys set up their equipment. However, two vampires against one was not good - you knew who would win. Sarah was pinned up against the wall by Olivia and Erica, who then began to fight over who was going to hurt Sarah first. "Ethan, hurry up!"
Marny ran up to Benny and started to hit him with his magic wand. "Ah! Ethan, do it now!" Marny wouldn't stop so Benny stood up. "That's it; here's a real magic show!" He shot a bolt at the boy and stumbled backwards, backing off.
Ethan used the phase inverter and the ultrasonics moved in Serena's direction. She cried out and glared at Ethan, before screeching back at him. The boys continued to fight her as she fell to the floor. "You can't keep my quiet!"
"Sorry, what was that?" Ethan teased, putting his hand to his ear.
Serena screeched again, but Ethan wasn't giving up. Once Evelyn realised what was happening, she held out her finger and shut the curtains.
Serena couldn't take anymore, she turned a bright purple before disintegrating.
The boys sighed out of relief. "That was intense!"
"Well, guys, I think we just recorded our first number one!" Benny announced.
"Yes!" Rory shouted.
Benny cheered and threw his drum sticks in the air.
Erica and Olivia immediately pulled away once they realised they were so close to attacking Sarah. Olivia winced and groaned. "Not again..."
The crowd was ecstatic - everyone was cheering and Stern stumbled up to the microphone as the boys reappeared from behind the curtains.
"A very interesting act, boys, very... interesting. Take a bow."
The boys grinned before bowing. Evelyn gave Benny a thumbs up, he returned the gesture.
***
"I think that's the last we'll hear from Serena." Olivia said.
"And MC MonsterBat." Benny added, putting his arm around Olivia.
"Yeah, buddy! It's WhiteChapel High, this ain't no lie, MC MonsterBat's morning meltdown don't even ask why, checheer! Intermediate volleyball begins at 4 o'clock today. You can pick up your team vests at lunch, but don't use them as bibs, hah! I'm just kidding, you can use them as bibs."
Olivia rolled her eyes. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."
