I finish eating my salad and Jessica finishes eating her pork chop. The waiter brings the bill.

"Let's go." I sign the bill and motion for her to follow me.

We walk for about 20 minutes to the animal rescue shelter. I open the shiny wooden door and walk inside. The building has pictures of animals such as dogs, cats, fawns, birds, and more. The floor is dark blue carpet and the walls are a shiny white.

"Hello, Lily," Dr. Biot greets me.

"Hello." I greet him back.

"This is Anthony Fert." Dr. Biot introduces me to him.

Anthony is wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. He has green eyes and dark brown hair.

"Hello." I shake Anthony's hand. "I'm Lily Farewell."

"Hey." Anthony says. "Nice to meet you."

"I have to meet up with someone in 5 minutes. Is it okay if I go?" Jessica asks.

"Sure," I tell her.

Jessica leaves and walks outside.

"Lily and Anthony, follow me." Dr. Biot exclaims.

Anthony and I walk side by side, following Dr. Biot. He leads us to a dark room. I hear many birds squawking. Dr. Biot lifts up a curtain from a bird cage.

"This is Kiwi - he is a budgie. His wing is broken and he's sick." Dr. Biot explains.

"Aw, that's so sad," I say.

I reach out to touch Kiwi. He doesn't squawk.

"Wow. Kiwi likes you already." Anthony notices.

I smile and continue to pet Kiwi.

"Here. Give Kiwi some medicine." Dr. Biot hands Anthony some teeny-tiny, light blue medicine.

Anthony holds out his hand and Kiwi curiously stares at the medicine. He pecks Anthony's hand.

Anthony yowls with pain, flinging his hand back. I try to cover my laugh.

"At least you're not bleeding." I point out.

Anthony looks at his hand and laughs. "Your right."

Dr. Biot steps in. "Are you alright?"

Anthony nods, his dark brown hair flying in all directions.

"We should leave Kiwi to rest. The German Shepherd Brady needs to run around." Dr. Biot says.
