Chapter two

The great unknown turned out to be a busy road, which Lily discovered as she nearly got ran over.

A cry left her mouth and she stumbled back onto the sidewalk, tripping over the curb and taking several pedestrians with her.

"Watch it!"
"Hey lady!"
"Who do you think you are?!"

Several rude voices called out to Lily and she stumbled back, highly irritated. "Sorry for being human, you bloody arses!" She snapped back, any excitement over the prospect of a new country gone.  One of the men smirked, and stepped forward.

"Well well well." A Brit, are you? Well, why don't you go back to your tea party." The man, tall with blond hair and chilling blue eyes, smirked and onlookers laughed. Lily turned red in the face. Who was this man, a total stranger, to talk to her in such a manner. Blind with rage,  Lily punched the man square in the jaw and proceeded to march right into the heart of the city, pointedly ignoring the wolf whistles and applaud from behind her.

It took about thirty minutes for Lily to admit it: she was lost. Adrenaline rushing through her veins after punching the man with the cold blue eyes, Lily had walked an estimated 2.5 miles and now stood in a huge plaza, bright signs flashing advertisements everywhere she looked. She looked to her left, and saw a strange, bright red building labeled "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm." She wasn't exactly what "Mmmmmmmmmmmmm" was supposed to mean, so she quickly dismissed it. Next to it, though, was a currency - exchange station. "Well," Lily decided. "It's a place to start"

"What are you exchanging today?" A middle - aged, pudgy woman sitting in a dimly lit booth asked. Lily turned quickly, startled. "Pardon?" She asked.

"Euros, Pounds, Pesos, - whatever. Just make it quick, my shift ends at two." The woman snapped, and Lily looked up, startled by her rude demeanor.

"Er - Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons, please.' She said politely, not wanting another incident like that at the airport. The woman looked at her, clearly annoyed.

"What is this, a prank? Teenagers today, I swear - no respect! You know what, get out! Out of my sights! NOW!" Lily glared at her, fed up.

"Listen, lady. I just spent five hours on an airplane, threw up for thirty minutes, and punched an ass. I have no patience what so ever. So give me my money, and give it now!"

One hour and a confundus charm later, Lily walked out with a considerable amount of hundred American dollar bills in her arms - enough for a month, a month and a half. Bored of carrying it around, Lily stuffed the cash into her purse and set out to have some fun.

The first thing Lily did was head into a quaint, crowded shop called Starbucks Coffee. While it was only three o 'clock Eastern time, it was 8 pm back home. And it was 9pm back home before Lily had even ordered her coffee.

"Could this blasted line move any slower?" She spat out angrily, louder than she meant to. Her voice carried across the café earning several other glares - clearly, she wouldn't be making any friends any time soon.

"Great. Just, great." Lily muttered angrily as those in the room resumed to to their conversations.

"Well frankly, I think you had a point." She heard a voice behind her say. Lily turned to see a girl about her age with short, yellow blond hair that curved just underneath her chin and bright green eyes. The stranger held out a hand. "The names' Sara Clark." She said, and gave a toothy grin. Lily gladly accepted it. "Lily Potter." She said with a smile, and the girl's eyebrows shot up.

"Lily Potter? As in Harry Potter?" She asked, clearly surprised. Yet it was nothing compared to the mask of shock Lily wore. "How do you know about my dad?" She asked, befuddled. Sara's grin widened, but she lowered her voice.

"I'm a witch, of course!" She whispered brightly. Lily eyes were so big by now, they could've popped out of her skull.

"There are witches in America?!" Lily looked at Sara incredously. Sara looked as though Lily had just asked her if the sun had risen today.

"Of course there are witches in America. Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons aren't the only schools out there! Sara laughed. "I attended Ilvermorny - Best wizarding school in America, if I do say so myself. I was in Horned Serpent - it really is a shame I graduated last year, don't really know what to do with myself anymore. But of course I've heard of Harry Potter! He's famous everywhere, isn't he? Did you say that you were his daughter? Golly, now that's something!"

Lily blinked, processing all her new friend was saying as Sara continued to ramble on.
"I never knew there were wizards in America! And yes, Harry's my dad. By the way, would you mind telling me where I am?"

Sara smiled. "Right now, your at Starbucks, a No-maj coffee shop. You call No-majs Muggles, right? That's a bit of a weird term. Anyways, In general, your in Times Square, which is in Manhatten." Sara explained, and Lily nodded.

"FOR THE LAST TIME, MISSY! WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRINK TODAY?!" Lily turned around to see a surly girl, maybe mid twenties, looking like she could throw Lily out of the shop any minute now.

"Um......" Lily hesitated, having spent no time looking at the menu.

"Two grande Vanilla bean frappés, decaf with whipped cream for Lily and Sara." Sara stepped forward, and Lily nodded. "Yeah, what she said."

The barista rolled her eyes. "That'll be $12.46." She said dully, and before Lily could even take out her several dollar bills, Sara handed over 13 dollars to the Barista, and gave Lily a warm smile.

"Welcome to the Big City, Potter."
