Chapter Eight

Things between Albus and Lily didn't change as the week went on. She slowly began to forgive Sara, and was even speaking to her again by Thursday. Yet she continued to ignore her brother, only throwing him dirty looks every now and then.

Most would have been over something as silly as sleeping on the couch by now, but Lily was stubborn. She vowed not to speak a word to Albus until he apologized sincerely to her. Albus, unfortunately, didn't seem to see what he had done wrong - it was a bed, for Merlin's sake! It's not like he had asked her to snap her own wand or anything!

Needless to say, despite her feelings for the young man, Sara was more than a little relieved when Albus returned to England.

And so days went on, until one Sunday, when Sara saw an add in the paper.

"Hey Lils - look." Sara beckoned her friend over. Lily walked into the room, still in pajamas despite the fact that it was noon.

"What's up?" She yawned, and Sara showed her the paper.

"Local play auditions!" She said excitedly. "It pays one fifty a show!"

Lily's eyes widened - she had lived in the States long enough to know that that was a decent amount of money.

"I think I'm going to audition!" Sara said excitedly, and Lily grinned .

"What the heck - me too." She said decidedly, and Sara raised a brow

"You act?"

"Of course!" Lily replied, giving her a deluxe duh, stupid stare.

"I mean, I don't really dance well, but I love to sing!" She said with a twirl. Sara gestures towards the middle of the living room.

"Be my guest."

Lily cleared her throat and began to sing in a warbled, messy voice that sounded more like talking than actual singing.

"Over in Killarney...... MANY YEARS AGO-"

Finally, Sara couldn't take it. She tried to be polite for her friend, but her hands had been itching to cover her own ears - or better yet, her dear friend's mouth - ever since she had started.

"PLEASE! MAKE IT STOP!" She begged, and she could've sworn she heard her coffee mug crack behind her as Lily reached for the high note.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked with a confused frown - she had been singing her best yet!

"Um...." Sara racked her brain for an excuse for her outburst.

"Don't you wanna know when the audition is?" She asked awkwardly, scanning the paper frantically as she searched for an answer to her own question.

"Well, yes. I suppose that would be rather important!" Lily laughed.

"Oh -it's Wednesday, 4 o'clock PM."

"Damn - I'm going out with an acquaintance that day."

Sara raised a brow - Lily wasn't still mad at her or anything, right?

"Really? Who?"

"Well, do remember that guy I told you about? The one I slugged my first day here?"

"Yeah, what about him?" Sara asked, clearly not catching on."

"I'm meeting him at Starbucks at that exact same time.

"WHAT?!"

Sara demanded that Lily sit down and give her "Every. Last. Detail."

"Is he a boy? What's his hair like? His eyes? Is he even human? Does he have a job? Is he homeless? Does he have a family?" Sara bombarded poor Lily with questions she didn't even understand.

"Yes, he is a boy, blonde, grey, I hope, he was fired from an art teacher position but-he's-a-failure-because-not-for-something-good, I don't think so, and of course he had a family, how else could he have been born?" Sara wiggled her brows

"There are ways."

"EW, YOU PERVERT!"
