The Keeper of the Keys

It was nighttime, and Liliana was sleeping soundly in her bed. That is, until she heard a loud noise coming from the front door.

BOOM.

She jerked awake, crawled off her bed, and opened her bedroom door.

"Liliana?!" Mrs. Figg called out. Clearly, she heard it too.

"What was that?" Liliana asked. "Should we go...?"

"Come on, then. Slowly."

BOOM.

Once they've gotten downstairs, Mrs. Figg looked through the peephole and her expression relaxed. "Why, it's only Hagrid."

"Hagrid?" Liliana asked.

"You'll see," responded Mrs. Figg as she opened the door. "Why hello, there, Hagrid."

A giant of a man was standing in the doorway. His face was almost completely hidden by a long, shaggy mane of hair and a wild, tangled beard, but you could make out his eyes, glinting s under all the hair. He squeezed his way through the door. He bent down, picked up the door, and fitted it easily back into its frame. The noise of the storm outside dropped a little. Hagrid turned to look at them.

"Las' time I saw yeh, Liliana, yeh were only a baby," Hagrid said, smiling through his large mustache. "Yeh look exactly like yeh mom!"

Liliana smiled, "You can call me Lily, if you want."

Hagrid only nodded. He turned back to Mrs. Figg, and speaking so fast that Liliana couldn't even catch a single word he said. Somehow, Mrs. Figg managed to understand it all.

"Very well, then, I will indeed keep Liliana until September first, and she is more than welcome to come back during the summer. Yes, yes, alright, then. Good luck, Hagrid."

Hagrid turned and gave Liliana a small wave before leaving. Mrs. Figg shut the door behind him.

"Hagrid is the gamekeeper at Hogwarts," Mrs. Figg explained. "You'll see him there." She glanced at the clock. It was nearly midnight. "You'd better finish your sleep."

Liliana nodded. "'Night, Aunt Arabella."

"Goodnight, Liliana."
