The Fight

Hermione's POV

"I had you looking in the wrong section! How could I be so stupid? I checked this out weeks ago for a bit of light reading! Here it is!" I pointed to the line as I read it for Harry and Ron. "'Nicholas Flamel is the only known maker of the Sorcerer's Stone.'"

"The what?" They asked in unison.

"Honestly, don't you two read? 'The Philosopher's Stone is a legendary substance with astonishing powers. It will transform any metal into pure gold and produce the Elixir of Life which will make the drinker immortal. The only stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicholas Flamel, the noted alchemist who last year celebrated his 665th birthday.' That's what Fluffy's guarding on the third floor. That's what's under the trapdoor. The Philosopher's Stone."

We're going for an important visit to Hagrid's tonight.

Correction: We were.

Until Liliana somehow heard us and pulled the cloak off.

Ron gasped. "How did you-"

"Never mind that!" Liliana screeched. "Where do you think you're going?! All of you!"

Harry opened his mouth to reply, but I cut him off.

"Why does it concern you?!" I asked. "You never helped with any of this, why should you get to come with us for more clues?"

"What did you say?!" She asked sharply. I gestured for Harry and Ron to go on without me. They left.

"I said, why should you be a part of us?! You never helped me look in the library whenever I wanted your help! You always turned me down whenever I asked to study with you! You always used me as a last option if you didn't have anyone else to spend time with! Or should I use the coolterm, hang out!"

I took a deep breath and waited for Liliana's comeback. It didn't come as harsh in her voice as I thought, but the words hurt just as much.

"You're right, Hermione. You were never meant to be popular. I tried so hard to include you in The Lilies, but you're just way too geeky and bookworm-ish to be a part of it. You can be stuck with my brother and Weasley, before they dump you too. And for your information, I told Harry about Nicholas Flamel."

Then she turned and started to walk back upstairs.

Hermione.

Hermione.

Hermione.

I was always 'Mione' to her. It kind of hurt to hear her call me Hermione.

I did the only thing I could think of: I pulled out my wand and attempted a fifth year spell.

"Stupe-"

"PROTEGO!" Liliana shouted, whipping around.

I was blasted off my feet and thrown back. Just before I hit the ground, I heard Liliana's faraway voice whisper, "Expelliarmus," causing my wand to fall out of my grasp.

Then, I blacked out.
