Chapter 7 - The Calm Before the Storm
Vanadessë awoke to the sound of a voice. Startled, she sat up and looked around. No one was up. She looked around once again and noticed no one was near them either.
"Do not fear child," said a voice, that she now realised was inside her head.
"The hell?" Vanadessë said.
Vanáezae groaned next to her. She must have heard her.
"Hello," said the voice again. Judging by the sound it was feminine.
"Uh. Who are you?" Vanadessë replied, now thinking in her mind.
The female chuckled, "With your knowledge, you should know."
"Well, I'm in Middle-Earth, and someone is talking to me in my mind. Lady Galadriel?"
"Yes. I need to talk to you," Galadriel said.
"Why?"
"Meet me at the waterfall."
Then Galadriel was gone from her head. Vanadessë sat there for a few moments. Why did she need to see her? With curiosity getting the best of her, she got out of her bed roll and stretched. Might as well go. She stepped over Vanáezae and started walking to the waterfall.
By the time she had gotten there, Vanadessë had spent five minutes trying to find the place. She rounded the corner and saw Lady Galadriel waiting for her.
"Hello," she greeted.
"Hello, Vanadessë," Galadriel greeted back.
"So why did you wake me?"
"You are confused child, and I shall give you the answers."
"Um okay. What am I doing here?"
"That is all part of the Prophecy."
"What prophecy?"
"Lilia's prophecy."
"She has a prophecy about herself?"
"Yes, and I'll leave her to tell you it. But you are here because someone need to accompany Lilia on her journey?"
"But why me? I'm just a kid that she barely knows. We only knew each other for the first nine or so years of our lives."
It was true. She didn't know much about Vanadessë, even if they talk a lot as kids. She had changed a lot since they last met. Well, Vanáezae did know her chrush, her shifting ability, and where she used to live, but that was beside the point.
"You are her friend, and you share many qualities," Lady Galadriel explained.
"Okay. But one last thing," Vanadessë said, looking up to meet Galadriel's gaze.
"You cannot change what is to come, dear child," Galadriel said, knowing her question.
"Why not?"
"It hasn't been done before. Many have tried, and failed."
"Oh. Okay," Vanadessë's heart sank lower in her chest. She wouldn't be able to save him. She just thought, that maybe she could save him. But then again, she could still try.
"Do not fret, you have a great part in this tale. Now go, return to your company and sleep," Galadriel said.
Then she turned, and left Vanadessë with her thoughts. Then she also turned around and went back to her friends. When she got back to my bed roll, she began thinking. Some may have failed at changing things. But that destroyed mean she would. She won't. She can't. He will survive this, she'd make sure of that. With that thought, Vanadessë went back to sleep. Waiting for dawn to come, and to start the journey.

Vanáezae awoke to someone shaking her and she grumbled and rolled over. She didn't want to get up. It was too early.
"Wake up! We have to go!" said a voice.
Vanáezae opened her eyes and saw Vanadessë above her, still shaking her. Vanáezae sat up and every dwarf was awake and packing their things. So Vanáezae began to pack hers, knowing full well that they were leaving. Then they were ready to go, and Thorin lead the way from Rivindell. They walked in silence, until Thorin told Balin to take the lead. Since he knew the way better.
Bilbo stopped on the path and looked back towards Rivindell, along with the two elves of the company. The other dwarves passed them and payed them no mind.
"Master Baggins, Vanadessë, Vanáezae, I suggest you keep up," Thorin said to them.
Vanadessë and Vanáezae continued, but Bilbo took one last look and followed. They walked many miles, and they didn't stop. Eventually it started to rain. Then it came down harder. The hard rain was cold against their skin. Everyone was drenched in cold water while on a narrow path.
The thunder sounded above them and kept Vanáezae's senses on high alert. Even over the strong winds that chilled they, we could hear the thunder loud and clear. Thorin lead the group and Vanáezae ended up behind Kili, Vanadessë behind her. One of Bilbo's feet slipped and he almost fell, but Dwalin and Bofur grabbed him before he could.
"We must find shelter!" yelled Thorin.
"Look out!" yelled Dwalin.
All heads turned towards what he was yelling about. A boulder came flying through the air from an unknown source, and stuck the mountain above them. Large rocks fell from above the company. One hit Vanáezae's eyebrow and cut it. She felt the blood slowly running down next to her eye.
"This is no thunderstorm, it's a thunder battle! Look!" Balin pointed at rock giants.
"Well bless me! The legends are true, giants! Stone giants!" Bofur shouted in disbelief, stepping closer to the edge.
"Take cover you fool!" Thorin bellowed to his fellow dwarves.
The first giant threw the boulder into the air as another giant appeared behind the company. The second stone giant was hit in the head, sending a shower of rocks as it went down. The company shouted and yelled at each other to 'brace yourselves' and 'hold on' as the rocks beneath their feet began to give way. The ground beneath the company split, so that half the company was on each side.
"Fili!" Kili yelped to his brother.
"Kili!" Fili cried back.
Horror struck Vanáezae as she realized the were on the knee of another giant. They watched as the giants fought, crashing their great stone hands into each other. Vanadessë and Vanáezae held on even tighter as they were flung around. Thankfully, the other half of the company managed to get off the giants knee, and back on the trail. The second giant stood up again and fought with the first. To Vanáezae's absolute dismay, a fourth stone giant appeared and threw a boulder at the giant carrying the rest of the company, her included. Effectively knocking it's head off.
Vanáezae yelled, "Get ready!" as they neared the mountain.
For a moment, Kili's and Vanáezae's eyes met. His full of terror, and hers with horror. Just before they were crushed, they jumped onto the mountain pass close by. She heard some of the dwarves cry out from the impact.
"No! Kili!" Vanáezae heard Thorin shout, obviously distressed about his nephew.
She sat up, looking over the company as the rest of the group showed up. They breathed a sigh of relief to see everyone alive. That is until Bofur asked a very serious question.
"Where's Bilbo? Where's the hobbit?"
Bilbo! Everyone looked around for him. Her eyes scanned everything around her, searching to find her friend.
"There!" Bofur cried.
Bilbo was hanging on to the edge of the path. Vanáezae dived to the ground near the edge but missed. Bilbo slipped another few feet. Suddenly, Thorin swung down off the cliff next to him and boosted Bilbo up. Vanáezae grabbed Bilbo as Thorin went to pull himself up. He slipped and the rest of the company went to aid their leader. Dwalin pulled him up and sat down, breathing hard.
"I thought we'd lost our burglar," Dwalin sighed.
"He's been lost ever since he left home. He should have never come," Thorin snapped. "He has no place amongst us."
"Hey!" Vanáezae yelled, standing up to defend her friend.
Thorin turned to her, "Nor do you, elf!" He spat. "Dwalin!"
Thorin stormed off in search of shelter. Vanáezae growled and turned to help her friend up. It wasn't his fault. Anyone could have fallen.
"It looks safe enough." She heard Dwalin say from inside the cave.
"Search to the back. The caves in the mountains are seldom unoccupied," Thorin said as they all went in.
"There's nothing here," Dwalin called, his torch lighting up the area he inspected.
"Right then, let's get a fire started," Glion rubbed his hands together with glee, wanting to get warm quickly.
"No, no fires. Not in this place," Thorin spoke. "Get some sleep, we start at first light."
Balin looked to Thorin, "We were to wait in the mountains until Gandalf joined us. That was the plan."
"Plans change," Thorin replied. "Bofur take the first watch."
With that, everyone put out their bed rolls and layed down. And thus, the wait began.
