7. place your trust in me

[letharia vulpina: season 3, episode 19]

Meg grabbed onto the side of Kira's arm and pulled her out of the way. The broken electrical wire flew over their heads. "Holy shit!" she yelled as the ambulance pulled up to the hospital. The wire came flying directly at the ambulance, causing it to swerve out of the way and onto the grass, hitting a small fire hydrant. The wire flew on the ground, sparks still leaking out of the open wound.

Water began to spring out of the top of the hydrant, spilling out onto the middle of the road. The driver of the ambulance hopped out of the car and immediately got shocked by the electricity that pulsed through his veins. Kira looked over at Meg, terror in her eyes. "What do we do?" she hissed as another car pulled up to the scene.

"I don't- I don't know," Meg answered as Isaac and Allison stepped out of the car. Meg was about to call for their help, but they couldn't hear her over the commotion in the parking lot. Allison took a step forward and almost ran directly into the water. Isaac's head snapped toward her and immediately clocked what was about to happen. He used the majority of his strength to push Allison out of the way, letting the water hit him instead.

"Isaac!" Meg shouted, but it was too late. His entire body had tensed up and he fell into the water. He didn't have enough time to fully react as a car came flying toward both Meg and Kira. Kira pushed meg further onto the ground, so she wouldn't get run over.

Meg's eyes widened as Kira hopped onto the hood of the car and landed directly in the water. Meg felt like she couldn't breathe, preparing herself for the worst. She was gonna lose both her best friend and her-

But Meg's thoughts were cut off as Kira seemed unaffected by the electric water. "Kira?" Meg asked.

"I'm fine, Meg, don't worry," Kira said quickly. "I'm gonna stop this," she grabbed the electrical wire in her left hand and began to close her palm over the sparking bit.

"Be careful!" Meg called out, feeling powerless to stop whatever was happening.

"I will be," Kira responded, before fully placing her hand over the wire. Meg watched as Kira was able to snuff the electricity out using just her hands. Her eyes were glowing a bright orange color, Meg wasn't sure how many had seen it. Kira let go of the wire and Meg instantly ran over to her, concern lining her face.

"Are you okay?" she asked, slightly out of breath.

Kira nodded, calming the girls' nerves. "I should be, but I don't know about him," she finished, pointing toward Isaac.

Meg followed her finger and watched as Derek leaned over Isaac's unconscious body. He glanced up, looking from the two girls and then to Scott, who had just run out of the hospital. "Scott, he's not breathing," Derek said in a strained voice. "Scott, he's not breathing!"

"Oh my god," Meg whispered to herself.

¸.•.¸¸˚̣̣̣͙¨*˚̣̣̣͙¸¸.•.¸

"Scott, Scott!" Meg called, walking into the school hallway. "God, stop being an asshole and turn around and talk to me!"

It was around two days later and Meg was trying to get an update on what was happening because no one bothered to fill her in. Scott would honestly be the last person that she would try and talk to, but she really had nowhere else to turn. Lydia was busy trying to get information out of Peter with Allison, Derek got arrested for some reason that Meg didn't bother finding out, she really didn't feel like talking to Ethan or Aiden, and Kira seemed to be just as out of the loop as Meg was.

"What do you want, Meg?" Scott asked, spinning on his heel to face her.

"Is Isaac okay?" she asked slowly. Scott repressed the urge to scoff and tried to keep walking. "Oh my god, Scott! He's my best friend, you have to give me something! I would do the same if I knew information about Stiles, or Allison, or Lydia," Meg pleaded. "I wouldn't be asking you if I didn't need to!"

Scott looked back down at her, "Then why don't you go visit him yourself?" he asked.

"Because the nurses wouldn't let me in, and I know for a fact that Melissa let you and Allison visit," Meg continued. "Scott, please."

Scott sighed, "Not good. I mean, you saw him that night, how else would you expect him to be? I don't even know why you were there," he added under his breath.

Meg scoffed, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" she asked him, crossing her arms over her chest defensively.

"Just I don't understand what you were doing at the hospital, that's all," Scott said in a pointed manner.

"Okay, first of all, Derek asked me to help him, so that's why I was there. And second of all, we are all friends with Stiles, we are all here to help him, whether you like it or not Scott," Meg snapped.

Scott shook his head, "You want to be helpful, Meg? Stay out of this. You're dangerous and so are your powers."

Meg clicked her tongue, "Fuck you, Scott," she spat before pushing past him to walk further down the hallway.

'Dangerous? DANGEROUS?!' She thought to herself as she stormed down the hallway. 'No way did Scott-fucking-McCall, a literal werewolf who could rip someone's throat out, say that to me! The audacity, the fucking audacity! And to think- I was trying to help him AND Stiles. Or whatever thing is possessing him. God, if I could kill a wolf, I would wring his neck!'

'He's not wrong, though,' A small voice said in the back of her head. 'You are dangerous. Remember the other night? You couldn't even control a small fire in your hands. Maybe you should stay away, they're all better off without you. Even Kira thinks so.'

Meg scoffed at her own thoughts. "God, I need to shut up," she whispered to herself as she turned the corner into another deserted hallway. "I don't even care what she thinks. And it's gonna be a cold day in hell when I listen to Scott McCall."

'Well, you should,' the small voice said. 'He could be right about you. They all could. You don't know how to control it. Whatever it is.'

Meg shook her head, "I have to stop thinking like this," she said to herself and she sped down a flight of stairs. "It's not good. It's not healthy, and it will only make the whole situation worse. Oh my god, I sound like a fucking psychiatrist." She tilted her head, "Stacy would be proud."

        "Meg?"

The girl whipped around, finally recognizing where she was. It was the basement of the school, she hadn't been there that often. "Hello?" she sounded into the mostly empty hallway. "Is anyone there?"

No one answered her and Meg sighed. "That's what I get for wondering into an empty basement," she said to herself.

"Meg, it's me," a familiar voice sounded.

Everything seemed to click in her brain, she immediately knew who was talking. "Stiles?" Meg asked, her eyes adjusting to the dim lighting in the basement.

The boy looked up, and Meg tilted her head. He was almost unrecognizable. He looked haggard, and a little worn down. His eyes were cold, dead. "Not exactly," Stiles said with a small voice.

"Uh, okay," Meg said, trying to ignore the uneasy feeling that was washing over her. "What the hell are you doing down here, everyone's been looking for you."

"And you're here first?" Stiles asked, more to himself than the girl that stood in front of him. "Interesting, interesting."

Meg frowned, "I can call Scott if you want," she offered. "It might be hard to convince him to pick up the call seeing as he hates me, but-"

"Don't call Scott," Stiles snapped, causing Meg to almost drop her phone. "I want to talk to you," he said simply.

        Meg gulped, "Why?"

"We're friends, are we not?" Stiles asked, an interesting cadence in his voice. Meg couldn't tell what it was, but Stiles seemed off. There was something different about him. He seemed like a shell. A void. "Do you trust me, Meg?"

Meg took a deep breath in, unsure what to say. "That's a layered question, don't you think?" she asked vaguely.

"Oh, come on," Stiles said with a slight roll of his eyes. "It's a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer, Meg."

"And what if I don't answer you," Meg challenged. "What if I just leave and you don't get your answer?"

Stiles scoffed, "Oh Meg, you came down here for a reason. You were the first one to find me, it's fate that you're down here."

        "You're talking crazy," Meg stated.

"I'm not," Stiles said in that same sinister voice. Meg felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. "So why are you here, Meg?"

"Because everyone wanted to find you," Meg started, her voice slightly higher than usual. "You left the hospital without telling anyone. We were all super worried about you."

Stiles tutted, "That's not the truth, Meg," he told her. His eyes narrowed as he continued to stare at her. Meg felt like his eyes were searching for someone in her, but she didn't know what that thing was. She just knew that she hated this feeling.

Meg shuddered, "What the hell is going on here, Stiles?" she asked quickly.

"What do you think, Meg?" Stiles asked at a speed that scared her. "I'm here to help you, okay? You clearly need that!"

Meg folded her arms over her chest, trying to mask her nervousness. "You, help me? That's a funny joke, Stiles. You can't help me, no one can," she stated.

Stiles raised his eyebrow, "I beg to differ," he told her. Meg instinctively took a step back. "The fire," he said, his eyes floating down to Meg's hands. "I can help you control that."

Meg's eyes widened, she had only told Kira about that, and Stiles wasn't there when the rest of the pack found out. But somehow Stiles knew. "I didn't tell Stiles about that," she said, her voice shaking a little bit.

"And we've already established, I'm not Stiles," he responded quickly. "So, I'll ask again, do you trust me?"

"Do I have a choice?" Meg shot back.

"No," he said simply. "Since there's no one else who can help you now, Meg. We both know that, so- shall we seal the deal," he asked, sticking his hand out in front of him.

Meg reluctantly took a step forward. She looked down at Stiles' hand and accepted the shake. A wide grin appeared on Stiles' face as a chill passed through Meg's spine. "Okay, that was fucking creepy," she stated, instantly placing her hand back at her side. She looked up at Stiles once more but his grin has disappeared. He began to stumble forward, reaching toward Meg who side-stepped around him.

"Stiles, what the hell are you doing?" she snapped, as he began to hurriedly look around the room.

His eyes landed on Meg as if he had just registered that she was there. "Meg? Meg," he whispered. "You need to help me, Meg," he insisted. "I don't, I don't know what's going on." Stiles looked like he was trying to pull his hair out, his eyes were bugged. Meg was sure that he was on some drug, that was the only rational explanation for his behavior, right?

But, that couldn't be true. He knew. He knew about the fires that she started. Kira wouldn't have told anyone about it, Meg trusted her. "Stiles," she started carefully. "Is that really you?"

"Of course it's me," Stiles said. "Who else would it be?"

Meg furrowed her brows, "Then who was I talking to earlier?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" Stiles questioned. "I just, woke up here, like thirty seconds ago."

Meg shook her head, "No, Stiles, that's not possible because I was talking to you for the past ten minutes," she informed him.

Stiles blinked, looking up at her. "I don't remember that," he said slowly.

Meg tilted her head at him, "Okay," she said, walking over toward him. "What's the last thing you remember?"

"Um- I was- um, I think I was at the hospital," Stiles said, rubbing his forehead, trying to recall the rest of his memory. "Talking to Scott. I was giving him a hug," he continued, picking up the backpack on the ground and beginning to dig through it. "Everyone was worried about me."

Meg blinked, "Yeah, you're losing me here buddy," she stated. "Uh, when was this?" she asked.

"A few days after Halloween. The 3rd- I think," Stiles said, still looking through his backpack.

"It's November 5th," Meg sounded out loud. "That was two days ago. You don't remember anything from the past two days? That's bad Stiles, that's really bad because we saw you, walking around. We talked to you."

Stiles gulped, "I don't think that was me," he said slowly.

"Then who was it?" she asked.

        "Void," Stiles breathed out.

Meg raised her eyebrow, "Void?" she asked again.

"I think that's who was been taking over," Stiles started to explain. "And I think that he's done all this shit," he said, pointing to the inside of the backpack. "This map- it's his doing."

        "What map?" Meg asked instantly.

Before Meg could get her question answered, the twins and Scott McCall came barreling into the hallway. The twins' eyes were blazing. Stiles held his hands up defensively. "Okay, I know what you guys are thinking, but it's me. I swear to God, it's me."

One of the twins growled, trying to grab Stiles by the throat. "Wait stop!" Scott yelled but they continued to try and attack him. "I said stop!" Scott roared.

The twins backed off, though they both still had their eyes narrowed at Stiles. "It's me, Scott. I swear it's me," Stiles mumbled. "I don't know where I've been the last two days or what I've been doing, but it's me. I promise," he said.

"He's right it's him," Meg chimed in.

Aiden scoffed, "And why should we trust you? We haven't seen you all day either," he said in a pointed manner.

Meg scoffed, "Yeah, because I don't go out of my way to interact with idiots, like you three," she retorted.

Scott glared at her but didn't address her. "You know what happened at the hospital?" he asked Stiles.

"I know more than that," Stiles said slowly, pulling out the map he was referring to earlier. "You see this?" he asked the four of them. "It's a blueprint of the hospital's electrical wiring. You see all these markings in red?" Meg leaned over to view the marks he was referring to. "That's my handwriting. I know I did this. I caused this accident. And everything in this bag." Stiles pointed to the backpack he was rummaging through. "It's all that could be a part of something bigger," he explained.

Scott raised his eyebrow. "What the hell have you been up to?" he asked.

"I think something worse," Stiles admitted. "A lot worse."

Stiles took a deep breath in before walking away, the two twins following him. Leaving just Meg and Scott in the hallway.

Meg huffed, "Whatever you gonna say, Scott, I don't want to hear it."

"Just stay away, Meg," Scott warned her.

Meg looked down at her phone, hearing a small buzzing noise. Her eyebrow raised as she read the text. She did exactly what the person instructed, she walked outside of her house, saying goodbye to her parents. She then walked to the alleyway that this person described. "Stiles?" she asked, looking around the very dark alleyway. "Why did you tell me to come here?"

Stiles stepped out of the shadows of the building. "Because we had a deal, Meg, we shook on it," he stated.

Meg's smile faltered, how could she be so dumb?  "You're not Stiles," she stated bluntly. "Are you?"

"Meg, Meg, you thought Stiles was here the whole time?" Void asked her, a hint of laughter in his voice. "And I thought you were smarter than Scott."

Meg's expression faltered for a second, but she quickly composed herself. "So you're Void?" she asked. "You've been Void this whole time?"

"Of course, I have," Void snapped. "But, that Vet poisoned me. I don't know how long I can hold him off. But regardless, you agreed to help me, Meg. And you can't get out of this one."

        'Fuck.'

so will you still want me,
when I'm nothing new

Grace talks ig: YGS Meg served this chapter. Idk what else to tell you like- is she working with Void? Possibly. But she's gonna look good doing it so I won't be complaining. But actually, I'm so excited for these next few chapters, I have a lot of interesting things planned. I'm surprisingly having so much fun writing this arc for Meg. It's very different from the arc in SFY which is refreshing because I don't want to feel like I'm writing the same chapters for both books. LMAO. Anyways, sorry for not updating for like a month, I've been really busy and I hope you won't have to wait that long for the next update and vote/comment if you enjoyed. byeeeee!!!
