"So did you just think it was some lame suggestion when Scott told you to meet us in the park to help with Malia?" Isaac asked Meg as she pulled a stack of books out of her locker.
"Hmmm?" she sounded, even though she knew exactly what he was talking about.
After her scare at the vet's office, Meg was honestly too freaked out to be around anyone. So, she locked herself in her room until her parents began to bang on the door, begging the girl to come out and eat something. It wasn't her fault really, she had just gotten so wigged out by what her hands were doing that she had forgotten to do anything else. And, if she wasn't around anyone when her episodes (as Meg started calling them), she wouldn't be able to guarantee she wouldn't hurt anyone. But Meg wasn't going to tell anyone that, they would probably think she was crazy, or joking. Of which she was neither.
"Meg..." Isaac started, shaking his head at her. "The forest, turning a coyote back into a girl. Does that ring any bells?"
"No, no. It really doesn't," she lied, slamming the door to her locker.
"Okay, Meg, whatever the real reason is that you didn't show up to the park, you can tell me. You know that right?" Isaac asked her as they began to walk down the hallway together.
Meg sighed, she definitely wasn't going to do that. "Okay, truth is. I just got really, really busy," she said, dragging her voice over every single syllable.
"Wow. Very believable," Isaac stated bluntly as the pair approached their other friends.
"Thank you," Meg said, giving a small bow. "I try."
"Right now, Scott," Meg heard Stiles say, as he wrapped his arm around Scott. "I don't think you get it yer. You're the alpha. You're the apex predator. Everyone wants you. You're like the hot girl that every guy wants."
Scott blinked, "The hot girl?"
"You are the hottest girl," Stiles said, patting his friend on the back once more before walking away.
"What?" Isaac said looking between Stiles' retreating figure and Scott's dopey smile.
"I'm the hot girl," Scott replied with a smile.
"Yes you are," Isaac said, nodding.
Meg looked between the two of them, a grin spreading across her rose-painted lips. "God, just hook up already, everyone's waiting," she said to Isaac as Scott went to follow Stiles.
"Shut up, Meg!"

Meg thought it would be a normal day at school, but she shouldn't expect that in Beacon Hills. In fact, she was dragged out of her class by Stiles and Isaac. Meg rolled her eyes standing in the middle of the abandoned stairway. "Okay, what do you fools want now?" she asked.
"Fools, Meg what the fuck?" Isaac asked, not used to that word in Meg's vocabulary.
"Look, Isaac, I'm trying something new, okay?" Meg snapped. "I've been doing some thinking, and maybe, just maybe, Cora broke up with me because I didn't have a sophisticated vocabulary."
"Oh my god," Stiles groaned, rolling his eyes.
Meg ignored him and continued her thoughts from earlier. "So, I've started to change things up. Add some new words, by a little more positive."
"That last one's not working," Stiles reminded her.
"Shut up, I didn't ask for your opinion," Meg snapped.
"See what I mean," Stiles deadpanned.
Meg gave him a fake smile, "Fine, I'll stop," she said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "But, just know Stiles that I'm doing this of my own volition and not because you said something, okay?!"
"Yeah, okay, whatever you say, Meg," Stiles said, waving off her comment. "Now let's get to the important part of why I called you four out of class," he continued, gesturing to Isaac and Meg, as well as Lydia and Allison who had just joined them. "Have you guys heard of a man called William Barrow?"
Meg blinked, "No, Stiles, because not all of us are lucky enough to have the sheriff of Beacon Hills as our father," she pointed out, sending him a smug smile.
"Ha, ha, Meg, very funny," Stiles said dryly. "But you can honestly just google all of this information. And since I am so nice, I will save you the time and effort."
"Lucky us," Meg said sarcastically.
Stiles huffed but ultimately ignored her remark. "He was a shrapnel bomber. He strapped a bomb to a bus full of kids and said he needed to destroy them because they had 'glowing eyes'. And basically, he escaped from the hospital in the middle of an operation."
Isaac blinked, "Barrow went after kids with glowing eyes? He said those exact words?"
"Yeah, and no one knows how he woke up from the anesthesia," Stiles continued. "Just that when they opened him up, they found a tumor full of live flies, which in any other circumstances would be all kinds of awesome."
Meg gagged, "Awesome?!" she practically shrieked. "I think I've finally found out why you've never had a girlfriend. It's because you think that a tumor full of flies living inside of someone's body, is cool," she hissed.
"You are more annoying than usual today, you know that?" Stiles asked her, turning to the brunette who was now leaning against the banister.
"Stiles Stilinski finds me annoying. Oh no, I'm trembling," she commented with a slight laugh. "How will I ever survive?"
"Wait, Stiles did you say flies?" Lydia asked him before he had time to respond to what Meg had said.
Allison blinked, turning to her friend, "Lydia?" she asked carefully.
"All day I have been hearing this sound," Lydia explained. "It's like, this buzzing."
"Like the sound of flies?" Allison questioned.
"Exactly like the sound of flies," Lydia answered.
Meg gulped, her mood instantly changing from cheerful to incredibly nervous. "Does that mean Barrow's in the school?" she whispered as if Barrow was going to pop around the corner and attack the group of five.
"I don't know," Stiles said honestly. "But that's why my dad's here, he was spotted near the school."
"And you didn't think to mention that first!" Meg exclaimed. "That's like a life or death situation here, Stiles. Life or Death!"
"To be fair, Meg, I tried to tell you but then you went on this whole tangent about vocabulary and Cora and some other shit that I didn't really feel like listening to," Stiles said, shaking his head at the girl. "Maybe you should've tried to listen to me."
"Maybe if you weren't so boring, it would be easier for me to listen to you," Meg retorted, crossing her arms over her chest, fairly proud of her response.
Isaac sighed, practically having to drag Meg away from the spot on the stairway to stop her and Stiles' argument. "I swear to god, you guys are like children. Children," he commented.
"Charming children, right?" Meg asked.
"No, very annoying little children," Isaac answered. "Just, actually help us out with this problem, please. We don't want you running off again."
Meg huffed, "Are you seriously gonna hold this whole Malia thing against me?" she asked seriously. "I told you I was busy. Plus, you guys had it handled perfectly fine."
"Perfectly fine, right? Because getting my damn leg stuck in a bear trap is having the situation under control," Isaac replied.
Meg's eyes softened, "I didn't know you got your leg stuck in a bear trap," she said in a small voice. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine now, I healed, obviously," Isaac said quickly.
Meg took a deep breath in, "Okay, I get it," she said slowly, her hands beginning to shake. "I won't run off this time. I just- I got scared," she said with a small sigh.
"Meg, there's nothing to be scared about," Isaac reminded her. "It was just a coyote, it's not like we were dealing with the alpha packs again."
"Or human sacrifices," Meg added.
"Right, or human sacrifices," Isaac said nodding. "Please, stick with us, okay?"
"Stick with you, got it," Meg said with a small nod. 'Hopefully, they won't run away when they find out about the smoking hands, or fingers, or whatever the hell is going on with me.'

Meg had met up with Isaac, Stiles, Scott, Allison, and Lydia once again. The cop's search had turned up nothing but Lydia was sure that the man was still in the school. Last month, Lydia kept on having these feelings. Feelings of when people were gonna die. Basically, she found a lot of dead bodies. Meg liked to call her the 'dead body detector' (DBD for short). Lydia absolutely hated it. But when Lydia had a feeling, Meg usually ended up following it.
"Lydia thinks he's still here even though the cops searched the whole school," Scott explained. "But they didn't have one thing, our sense of smell," he said gesturing between himself and Isaac.
"The Bestiary is literally a thousand pages long," Allison told them. "If I'm going to find anything about flies coming out of people's bodies, it could take me all night."
"And remember the archaic Latin for fly is musca," Lydia reminded Allison.
"Got it," she said before slipping out the window as the school was still on lockdown.
Stiles nodded, "So you three got the basement and we'll check the upstairs," he said looking from Meg, Isaac, Scott, and then to Lydia and himself.
"Wait, why is Meg coming with us?" Scott asked, surveying the brunette with an interesting look in his eyes.
"Because she promised she wouldn't run off again, right?" Isaac asked his best friend.
"Right, no running off. I would never do that," Meg said nodding vigorously.
Scott shrugged, "Well, to the basement we go, and, just so I mention it now. I asked the twins to come and help us."
"The twins?!" both Meg and Isaac exclaimed.
"No, okay Scott's that's like on the top of the pyramid of bad ideas," Meg started as they sprinted down the stairs to the lower level of the school. "They tried to kill you guys on more occasions than I can count," she babbled.
Scott sighed, "I realize that but they can help," he said slowly.
"Ooooh, Scotty, you trust people too easily," Meg said, a hint of laughter evident in her voice.
"I could say the same for you," Scott responded, knowing what he was gonna say would get to the girl. "You trusted Cora to not break your heart, and look where we are now."
Meg placed a hand over her ouch. "Ouch, low blow," she scoffed.
Isaac pursed his lips, "So this is how it's gonna be now? We trust them?" he asked Scott, veering the conversation away from Cora.
"Just because I'm letting them help, doesn't mean I trust them," Scott said.
"Yeah, well, I don't trust them either. Or like them," Isaac responded. "In fact, I hate them and I want them to die."
"Ditto the beta," Meg added. "I may not have claws or teeth, but I know how to gut a bitch when I see on-"
Scott cut her off before she could continue her threat, "Well, if Barrow's actually here and he's got a plan, you both might get what you want."
Meg, Scott, and Isaac continued through the basement, searching for any sign of the criminal. Scott and Isaac were using their wolf powers to try and track his scent while Meg was just using her eyes. Plus, there was no way she would be able to use her burning fingers or whatever to detect a person. But, their search was short-lived as a fire alarm went off over their heads.
The three rushed out of the basement and into the courtyard where they met up with the twins, Stiles, and Lydia.
"We didn't find anything," Aiden said shortly.
"Not even a scent," Scott added.
"I also couldn't see him, with my eyes. If that counts for anything," Meg said, trying her hardest to be helpful.
Stiles snorted, "It doesn't," he said with a small laugh. "Anyways, it's 3:00, so school's over. If there was a bomb, wouldn't he have set it off by now?"
"Does that mean everybody's safe?" Aiden asked.
"I don't know. I just- I don't know," Lydia answered honestly.

Later that night, Meg was laying down on her bed. She attempted to do some homework, but she kept getting distracted by the shadows that danced across her window frame. She liked to give them names, and stories. If something that looked like a dog made its way onto the window sill, she would always give it a backstory, to make her staring into space more fun. She always used to do it with Cora. But now she was gone, Meg was all by herself.
Currently, Meg was trying to figure out a story for something that looked like an elephant. She had just come up with the perfect name when her phone rang. "Stiles, what an interesting surprise. Why exactly are you calling me?"
'Now Meg, I don't say this often. But I need your help,' Stiles admitted.
Meg let out a bark of laughter. "You need my help. Well, that only happens once every blue moon," she joked, moving her feet off of her desk and onto the floor.
'Meg, just, okay,' Stiles took another deep breath in. 'Meet us in front of the new girl's house. Uh, Ke- Ka-"
"Kira," Meg answered for him.
'Kira, yes! Kira. Meet us there,' Stiles said into the telephone receiver.
"Wait, I don't even know where she is!" Meg exclaimed, pulling her dark leather jacket over her white blouse.
Stiles coughed, 'You'll figure it out. Okay, bye!' he said quickly before hanging up.
"Figure out the damn address," Meg complained. "What does he think I am, some sort of girl scout?" she questioned as she opened the door from her bedroom. "Mom, dad!" she called, walking out into the hallway. "I'm going out!"
The Linara household was fairly small. It was just the three of them. Meg, and her parents Daniel and Verity. They lived in a one-story household, so Meg's bedroom was about ten steps, give or take a few, from the living room. Which is why she used to spend most of her nights in Derek's Loft. More specifically Cora's room, for obvious reasons.
"Where are you going, sweetie?" Verity asked, looking up from her book to gaze at her daughter.
"Just out," Meg said. "I need to help a few of my friends with some, homework," she lied. "Nothing too complicated really, I should be back in no time."
"Well, if you take the car just make sure you fill up the tank after," Daniel reminded her, tossing her the keys from off the coffee table.
Meg caught them with ease, "Thanks dad, I'll do that," she said nodding.
"Have fun darling!" her mother called before Meg stumbled out of the house and into the family car. She didn't really care for it. But the car was able to get her where she needed to go, even if she complained about it, a lot.
It didn't take Meg that long to reach Kira's house. She ended up having to track Stiles' phone to reach it in time, even in the piece of junk her father called 'the car.' "You didn't ask for an address?" Lydia asked Meg as soon as she stepped out of her car.
"Well, Stiles didn't give me one, so I just tracked his phone," Meg answered simply. "You should turn your location off, by the way," she added, looking over to Stiles.
"Will do," Stiles said with a swift nod. "Now all we have to do is wake Scott up."
Meg shrugged, "Just slap him, easier said than done."
"I'm not gonna slap my best friend," Stiles said defensively.
"Oh, he'll heal, just get over it," Meg replied nonchalantly.
"Okay, okay," Stiles said, kneeling down next to the unconscious body and striking him across the face.
Scott woke up with a start, "Barrow, he took Kira!" he said to the three of them, rubbing the large bump on his head.
"We know," Stiles said. "He was after her the whole time."
"But why Kira?" Meg asked out loud. "If he wanted to kill someone, why would he choose Kira? There's no connection between the two, right?"
"I don't think so," Scott said slowly. "Let me call Isaac and see if he's got anything."
Meg nodded as she bit her lip, "But shouldn't we be worried about finding Kira?" she asked as Scott stalked off.
"Maybe this will help him find her?" Lydia questioned. "Why are you so worried anyway?"
"I'm not," Meg said shaking her head. "Someone might die, you know, it's a big deal. That's it. I swear."
"Hmmm, right," Lydia sounded right as Scott returned to the group.
"He's going to kill her," he stated.
Lydia looked down at the ground, "I knew he was there," she said, referring to the fact that she knew Barrow was in the school. "How did I know that?"
"Because you heard the flies, right?" Stiles asked.
"What do you here know?" Scott continued.
Lydia sighed, tugging on the edge of her strawberry blonde locks, "Nothing! I feel like I can do this. But I don't know what to do. It's like it's on the tip of my tongue, and I don't know how to trigger it. I just- I swear to God. It literally makes me want to scream!"
"Then do it," Meg said simply.
"What?" Lydia asked.
"Scream, Lydia," Stiles told her. "Scream."
Lydia took a step forward. She opened her mouth and let out the most pained scream that Meg had ever heard in her life. The scream seemed to last forever. Meg felt every single vibration move through her body, and then it stopped. Lydia turned around to face the three of them. "It's not flies. It's electricity," she stated simply.

Once Meg had reached the power station she instantly hopped out of her car. "No! No!" Stiles said shaking his head. "Get in the Jeep with Lydia."
"Wait, what why?" she asked.
"Your human," Stiles said simply. "Isaac would have my head on a stake if he found out I dragged you into the power station." He pushed her towards the Jeep and Meg got into the backseat, a huge frown plastered on her face.
"This is a hostage situation, you guys," Meg hissed. "A hostage situation and you're making me wait in the car!"
"You have Lydia, you'll be fine!" Stiles calls after her as he whipped the bat around in his arms.
Meg frowned once more, "Lydia, you know I love you, but I can't just stand around while Kira is being held hostage by some psycho murder guy. It's just not right!"
Lydia nodded, "Hm-Mhm," she sounded. "No offense, Meg, but the whole 'saving a stranger' thing isn't really like you," she admitted.
"Kira isn't just a stranger," Meg said quickly. Lydia gave a look and Meg continued, "Well she is, but she isn't. Look, Lydia, I don't know what is it about her, but she's too nice to get wrapped up in this whole stupid supernatural world with werewolves and flies coming out of people's bodies, and kanima, banshees. Who else knows, right? She's just- too nice for anything to happen to her."
Lydia bit her lip carefully, "Go," she told the girl.
"What?" Meg asked. She wasn't expecting this answer from her.
"Go, Meg," Lydia repeated. "I'll be fine in here by myself. Plus if you run into Scott or Stiles they can help you. But you don't need it. If you just yell at Barrow he would probably peel over and die."
"Thanks, Lydia, I love you," Meg said before hopping out of the back seat and rushing to the entrance to the power station.
Lydia laughed a little, her strawberry blonde hair covering bits of her face, "I love you too Meg," she called out in a joking manner.
Meg sent the girl a wink before skipping into the power station. It was fairly dark in there, which was slightly ironic for a power station. Stiles was already out of sight and she was no idea where Scott had gone, so Meg was basically stumbling around in the dark, all by herself. "Fuck it's dark in here," Meg whispered as she made her way through the maze of hallways. "How the fuck do the workers even see in her? I just need some light."
"Please, just a flashlight or something," she begged as she snapped her fingers as if that was going to do anything. "I just. Need. Light," she said between loud snaps. "Light. Light. Light. LIGHT," she commanded.
Meg felt her hand begin to heat up as spirals of smoke flew out of her palm. "No, no, no," she stumbled, holding her right hand up towards the ceiling. "No. Not now, I'm not ready. This can't keep happening. "Fuck, I just need to be able to see, that's all I want," she pleaded.
"That's all I want," she repeated. "Please."
A sudden burst of orange, red, and yellow erupted from Meg's outstretched hand. "What the-" she sounded as the colors began to form into the shape of a flame.
Meg watched as the flame danced around the palm of her hand. "Holy- holy shit," she breathed walking further into the power station. "Holy shit," she repeated, a little more excited this time. "What the- what the fuck, how- how am I doing this? Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm like fucking Zuko right now."
"Oh my god," a softer voice behind Meg said. "What the hell is happening?"
so will you still want me,
when I'm nothing new ✾
