I bid farewell to my family quickly as I rushed through the crowds to find the stand where I was to turn in my draft card for a uniform. As I approached I noticed that most of the boys in line there didn't have dogs. As I waited at the end the boy in front of me turned to look down at Mae.
"Are you even allowed to bring her?" He asked, looking up at me.
"Yeah. It says on the card that German Shepards are allowed as companions if you train them to fight. I trained her to fight when I was five," I explained. He nodded. "I'm Mica."
"I'm Dustin," he said, holding out his hand. I shook it firmly.
"Nice to meet you Dustin," I said.
"And you, Mica," Dustin said, completing the formalities we were accustomed to.
The line slowly shuffled forward.
"No husband, I'm guessing?" Asked a voice behind me. I turned.
