(1) New Day For An Outcast

                          Cory's POV
I awoke slowly and groggily from the sound of my alarm clock. I groaned as I slowly opened my lense and glanced at the clock. It read 6:01, and it was still beeping. I was laying on my side on the bed, my legs still hanging off the bed from where I had collapsed onto it last night out of exhaustion. I groaned as I sat up, my muscles aching from my work last night. I reached over and pressed the top of my alarm clock, stopping the god-forsaken beeping.

I slowly looked down and noticed that I hadn't changed or showered after last night. My clothes and skin were filthy, covered in dirt and dried blood. I sighed, and walked over to my drawers, pulling out clean clothes, and walking out of my room and into the bathroom of my house. I took a shower, washing all the dirt and blood off of my skin, and changing into clean clothes. After I was dressed, I looked in the mirror, my dirty blonde hair was slightly messy, and the eye inside my camera lense had the same emotionless, miserable, exhausted look that I always seemed to have. I huffed, grabbing a haircomb to comb my hair with.

After I was dressed and ready I ran into the kitchen, grabbing an apple to eat on the way to school. I felt exhausted as I looked at the clock that now read 6:45. Two hours of sleep... I thought bitterly, I can run on that... I looked around, the house had never been so quiet or safe-feeling... That's when I noticed the bloody stains on the floor, and all around the living room. I scowled at it, knowing I'd have to clean it up as soon as possible after school.

I shrugged, taking a bite out of my apple and beggining to walk to the front door, but I paused. I'm forgetting something... I thought slowly, then I realized, "My hoodie!" I exclaimed aloud. I ran back to my room, grabbing my usual grey hoodie that I wore everyday. I walked back to the living room and grabbed my overly heavy backpack with the name 'Cory Crater' written on it. Then, I walked outside, beggining my long, boring walk to school, still eating my apple. I was a Junior in highschool, Only one more year... I thought with a mix of bitterness and relief.

As I walked, I was suddenly shoved to the ground. My hands scraped harshly against the concrete as I guarded my face from hitting the rough sidewalk. I clenched my teeth as I slowly raised myself from the ground, and I turned quickly to face whoever had shoved me. It was a familiar boy that I had many encounters like this with. "What do you want, Adam?" I hissed bitterly. He smirked, his dark sunglasses covering his eyes. "I want you to get out of MY way!" He snarled.

I felt my muscles tense with the unbearable feeling to punch that stupid smirk off of his face, but I took in a deep breath and slowly stepped out of his way. He laughed, "Hah! That's what I thought, freak." He scoffed, continuing to walk down the sidewalk. I clenched my fists, continuing on my way to school. My hands burned, but I didn't care, I was too angry to care. I sighed bitterly, "Everything is about to change..." I whispered to myself. This is gonna be a long day...

I stared boredly at the board as the teacher wrote on it. I wasn't listening, though. I never do. I looked around, watching the other people as they stared intently at the bored. My eye landed on one boy in particular, though. Nicholas Shatzki. He was taking notes, writing down everything that the teacher wrote. Geez, can't that dude take a break? I wondered. He made straight A's all the time, and he always seems so focused in all his classes. He takes every note, does every problem...It's so weird. I looked away from Nick, glancing at everyone else. My gaze stopped at a familiar, small boy. Jonathan Jonathan.

He was oddly small for our age group, and he was often teased for that. Jon was different then everyone else, though. He seemed as though he never got angry, he never pushed anyone, he never stood up for himself, he was what some people called, 'a cinnamon bun'. Some people think that Jon is insane, though, despite his sweet behavior. People have seen him having conversations with seemingly no one, and he wears a girly necklace. It has a bow charm on it, and I've heard that if someone removes it from Jon, he completely breaks down. That's kinda weird...

But my thoughts were cut off as I suddenly heard my name. "Cory Crater!" The teacher suddenly snapped. I looked at her with a dismissive, uncaring look. "Yeah?" I questioned, and her eyes blazed. "That's 'yes ma'am' to you!" She snapped, and I shrugged. She sighed, "Well, Cory, what ended in 1965?" She question with a smirk. I shrugged, "1964, obviously." I answered, smirking aswell. She opened her mouth to say something, but she was cut off by the bell suddenly ringing, signifying that it was lunch time. I jumped out of my seat, as did everyone else, and booked it out of  the classroom door.

I ran to my locker, quickly putting my stuff in it, hoping to avoid any, well, people. I was successful, and as soon as I shut my locker, I ran to the lunchroom. I quickly made my way to the table in the farthest corner of the room. It was a small, darkened table in the shadows of the large room. No one ever sat at the table with me, so, thankfully, I was left on my own...Or so I thought...

I was sitting at my table, when suddenly Jon came running into the lunchroom, and he ran my direction. He ran to me, "Hide me!" He whined, grabbing my shoulders and ducking behind me. I glanced back at him, then at the door of the lunchroom. I watched silently as two boys ran through the lunchroom doors, and I narrowed my eye at them. I reconized them immediantly as Red and Barney, another pair of jerks...It's a good thing that together they only have half a brain though. They looked around, and their eyes landed on me almost immediantly, well, not quite me. More like the boy who was peeking over my shoulder.

They began walking in my direction, and I stiffened a bit. They stopped at the table across from me, and Red slammed his hands in the table roughly. "Well, well, well, look what we have here...Two crazies in one place." Red said with a smirk. I kept an unamused look on my face, "You're right." I agreed, "I'm staring at them." I continued bitterly. Red scoffed, "Wow, look, we got a comedian here." He hissed, "Yeah, and he should clean up his act!" Barney snarled. I sighed, unintimidated.

"Whatever. Now, what exactly do you want with Jon?" I questioned. "You mean the runt? He bumped me in the hall," Red paused, punching his fist into his hand, "So I'm gonna bump my fist into his face." Red finished, I felt Jon tense, and I heard him whimper. I sighed, standing up from my lonely seat. "Well, you poor snowflake, I'm sorry that Jon hurt your precious feelings, but I think you're overreacting a bit." I said simply. "Snowflake!? How dare you!" Red said angrily. "Oh, I dare." I continued. Red lifted his fist, but Barney touched his shoulder. "This freak isn't worth our time." Barney whispered, and Red sighed, lowering his fist. He glared at me, "Next time you get in my way, FREAK, I won't hesitate." Red growled, turning away. "That threat will haunt my nightmares." I said sarcastically as they walked away.

Jon popped up behind me, "Wow! You just saved me!" He exclaimed. I sat down with a shrug, "They're all bark and no bite." I said simply. Jon smiled and sat next me, "You're REALLY brave!" He said excitedly. I just shrugged and looked down. I glanced at Jon, his green hair was messy, and his grayish-purple eyes were brimming with dissapointment, as if someone had said something to him. He slowly brought his hand up to touch his necklace, and I glanced at it. It kinda looked like the necklaces I had found last night, except the charm was a small, grey bow. "Jon!?" I suddenly heard a deep, smooth voice call.

I looked over to see Nick running over to us, I rolled my eye. Seems like EVERYONE is joining me today... I thought bitterly. "Hey Nick!" Jon exclaimed. Nick glanced questioningly at me, then he walked to our table and sat across from Jon. The two were best friends, so now I was destined to be an awkward third wheel of the friendship. "Um, hi, I'm Nick." Nick said first, giving me a small wave. "I'm Cory." I said simply. He smiled a bit, "Nice to meet you." He said. I nodded, "You too." I said shyly.

He then pulled a black lunchbox from the floor, and placed it on the table. Where'd that come from? I questioned wordlessly. He opened it, pulling out two sandwiches, two bags of chips, and two water bottles. He gave one of each thing to Jon, who thanked him happily. He glanced at me, noticing my lack of food, "Do you not have anything to eat?" He asked. I shook my head, shrugging, "I don't eat much, anyway." I said. He glanced at me, noticing my skinny frame, but he said nothing.

We talked for the rest of lunch, though, I barely spoke. I did learn some things, though. I learned that Nick and Jon aren't actually that bad, whuch was suprising considering how horrible the others at the school were. And the strangest thing  happened that school day...When the bell rang, signifying the end of lunch, I actually felt kinda sad that we had to disband. Which was very strange strange for me, since I usually hated everyone, regardless of who they were. I wondered about it as I left the cafeteria, and for the rest of the day. But then, as the last schoolbell rang, the memory seemed to fade away as I quickly walked home, leaving my awful school behind me.

A/N That hurt to write...It was SO cliche...But I needed to show a regular school day for Cory, which is cliche, but anyway, I hope you enjoyed...? And as always, I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AMAZING DAY, AND GOODBYE PEEPS!
