School's Out

My last two finals before it's all over. No more school, no more studying, no more drama. I made sure to get up early again so I'd have time to study before my first final. I grabbed my skateboard and bag before saying goodbye to dad and heading out.
"Good luck buddy" he called out before I closed the door behind me. I jumped onto my board and took off towards the school, feeling both excited and nervous.

I wasn't surprised to see Daisy waiting for me outside once I arrived at school. I did my best to avoid her, but suddenly David stepped in my way.
"Excuse me" I said as I tried pushing by.
"Any reason you're avoiding Daisy?" He asked as he shoved me back.
"She treated me so badly after years of friendship just to side with you and some boy we shouldn't care about. Why should I give her my time?" I asked back. I started walking into the building before they could answer. I was done with them, and I didn't have time to fight anyway. I had some studying to do before the bell rings.

I went straight to the library to claim the same table I used yesterday. It was just as busy today, so I wanted to the same table in the back for some peace and alone time. I pulled out my notes for English and started to go over them. I was still feeling confident, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I heard the sound of someone clearing their throat as I wrapped up on my notes. I looked up to see Daisy standing in front of me, tears forming in her eyes.
"Parker, we really need to talk" she whimpered. I put my notes back into my bag and stood up.
"There's nothing to talk about Daisy. You picked a side, after all our years of friendship you left me for some guys you met this year" I said. I felt my throat get dry as I got upset, but I did my best to hold it together. "You showed me you don't really care about our friendship. I wish you the best, but I'm done"
I walked out of the library quickly without turning back. I felt guilty, and I'm sure she was crying, but I knew it was the right thing to do.

I walked the halls until the bell rang. I then headed to English to take my final. Mr. Dost made sure to go over everything before handing out the work. 25 questions and an essay. Not too bad. All the questions felt easy, it was the essay that took the most time. I made sure everything was worded correctly and well written.

I finished the essay moments before the bell rang. I actually felt good about it. I handed in my final to Mr. Dost and said my last goodbye to him.
"Good luck Parker" he said as I made my way out the door. The good feeling left me when I realized my last final was next. German. Part of me just wanted to skip it and take the bad grade, but I didn't want to disappoint dad. I groaned and went the the library for more studying.

I went to my usual table and pulled out my German textbook and notes. I started thinking back to my freshman year of school, and how excited I was to learn a new language. Four years of small classrooms and odd teachers later, and I was finding it hard to want to learn. I still love the language, class was just so boring.

As I did my best to focus, I suddenly heard someone yell my name. I looked up to see David storming over. I quickly packed my things away and stood up to my feet just as he approached.
"Who do you think you are making Daisy cry?" He asked in my face. Cody soon caught up with him and stood by his side.
"Look guys, I'm done fighting with you. I just told Daisy how I felt. Believe me, it hurt me too" I said, trying to stay calm.
"If your upset why'd you say it?" Cody asked as he crossed his arms.
"Cause I believe it's best for both of us. I'd rather miss her and remember the good memories then make more bad ones" I said.
"Then I never want to see you talk to her again" David growled.
"Fine by me" I rolled my eyes and walked away from them. I just wanted to forget all this drama.

I sat outside in the grass until the bell rang. It gave me time to relax before my last final. I walked into class feeling nervous, and I think Herr Knight could tell.
"Don't worry Parker, you'll do fine" he said. I smiled at him before taking my seat. He passed the final out to everyone and let us begin.

I stressed over this final. Time felt so slow as I pondered over each question, worried about my spelling and scared of being wrong. I felt so much relief when the bell finally rang. I left some questions blank, but it didn't matter. I was done. I turned in my paper and rushed out before Herr Knight could say anything.

I rushed outside and fell to my knees in front of the school.
"Are you alright?" One girl asked me. I nodded and smiled.
"I'm free" I whispered. She giggled and congratulated me before walking off. I stood back up and pulled my board out of my bag, jumping on and taking off.

I didn't want to think of the results, graduation, or Daisy. I just wanted to enjoy this moment of happiness as I skated down the street, enjoying my new freedom. I took my time getting to the studio as it was so beautiful out.

Once I got to the studio I rushed over to the drum set. Barry was getting some practice for tour, so I sat down to watch.
"How was finals?" He asked when he put his sticks down.
"I think they went well. I'll find out later if I passed or not"
"Can't wait to see you graduate" he said with a smile.
"I'm nervous, but excited" I said. I got up and left to see the others, letting Barry focus.

I found dad hanging out with Zach and Eric in the lounge.
"What's up?" I asked as I walked into the room.
"Hey man. You ready for graduation?" Eric asked. I nodded and took a seat next to dad.
"I just can't wait until school's a thing of the past" I said.
"You'll miss it at first" Zach said.
"I doubt that" I mumbled. "I just want all the drama to be done with"
"Well, the high school drama will go away. Can't promise the real world won't give you any though" dad said.
"Especially if you tour with us" Zach laughed.
"Oh yeah, we'll be fighting all the time" I smirked as Zach rolled his eyes.

I listened in as the band prepared for tour, ready for my exciting summer.
"Come on Parker, it's getting late" dad said as he stood up.
"Alright. See you guys later" I said. I grabbed my bag and board and left with dad. He drove us home, both of us listening to the radio and feeling good. Now I just had o wait to see if I'd be walking at graduation
