Push forward
I knew getting up this morning that I was not going to sit around all day again. Dad couldn't force me to stay home any longer, I'd go crazy. I made my way to his office to see him gathering his notes.
"Dad?" I said as I stepped in., getting his attention. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Hey bud, feeling better?" He asked.
"Yeah. Can I go to work with you? I'm going crazy staying home all day" I admitted. Dad looked me up and down and raised an eyebrow.
"Well, you're looking better. If you think you can make it through a day, sure" He said, making me smile. "But the moment you push yourself too hard, I'm taking you home"
"I won't dad, I promise" I said. I thanked him and went to my room to look for a new outfit. I'm sure the clothes I now were in were gross from being in too much pain to change.
I decided on something simple as I wasn't going to do much today. I put on a plain grey t shirt and black shorts. After pushing my hair back I put on my black beanie and headed out of my room. I looked down at my arm and saw my tattoo was a little red.
"Hey dad, does this look infected?" I asked as I walked into his office. He grabbed my wrist for a closer look.
"No, but you really should clean it before it is" He said as he let go of me. I guess I had been neglecting my own care after leaving the hospital. I walked to the bathroom and gently cleansed it under the sink, carefully not to be too harsh.
After I carefully dried off my arm, I went downstairs to wait for dad. I scrolled through my twitter as I waited for him, getting bored the longer I waited. Suddenly I got a text from Daisy.
"Are you coming in today?" She asked.
"No sorry. Going to the studio to get out of the house though, but I'm not really allowed to do anything" I wrote back. She replied in seconds.
"God Parker, what happened to you?"
"I'll explain in person. It's easier that way"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah"
I put my phone away as Dad walked over.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Oh yeah, let's go" I said as I opened the front door. Dad followed, locking in the house behind us before the two of us got into the car and left.
It didn't feel like a long car ride. Probably because I was so excited just to get out of the house. I was ready to jump out of the car as we pulled into the parking lot.
"Relax bud" dad laughed as he turned off the engine. "No need to rush"
"You're right, I'm just excited to see everyone" I said as I stepped out of the car. Dad shook his head with a smile as we walked inside together.
"Hey everyone!" I called out as we entered. Eric walked over to me with open arms.
"How we doing man?" He asked as he pulled me into a hug. He squeezed me a bit hard, making me wince in pain.
"Easy on him Bass" dad said.
"Sorry Parker" Eric said as he let go of me.
"You're good" I said. "It's great to be here again"
"We all missed you" Eric said as Zach and Barry walked over.
"Feeling better?" Barry asked. I nodded my head as Zach put a hand on my shoulder.
"Good, we miss having you around. Now stay out of trouble" Zach said. Dad gave him a glare but I just laughed it off.
"Yes sir" I said sarcastically.
"Feel up to playing?" Barry asked.
"I might sit at the piano and see if inspiration hits" I said.
"Sounds good. We'll be in my office if you need us, we need to start getting things ready for tour" Eric explained. I nodded and walked towards the recording room while they are headed into the office.
I took a seat at the piano bench and stared at the keys. It felt like forever since I've last played, even though it's only been a few days. As I lifted my right hand to start playing, I started feeling dizzy again. I panicked as my vision started turning white. Just like the last one, it went away as quickly as it came. I took a moment to catch my breath.
"Everything okay?" I looked over to see Zach standing by the door. Unsure of how much he saw, I nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What's up?" I asked, trying to act calm. Zach gave me a weird look before walking over to one of the tables.
"Forgot this" he said as he picked up a pick. I gave a sigh of relief when he walked out of the room.
Once I felt better I began to play. I was not going to let anything stop me from doing what I love. My fingers danced across the keys as I got lost in the music. I was finally in my happy place and it felt nice. All my pain melted away as I played. It felt like the first time in days that I was at peace.
Each song I played put me in a better mood. By the time I decided to play "Get Up", I was singing along. I sang softly as getting loud hurt my sides, but I was still having a good time. I suddenly heard another voice singing alone. I stopped playing and turned around to see dad had walked into the room.
"Aw, why'd you stop?" He asked. I shrugged as he walked closer.
"Wasn't expecting anyone to join in" I said. Dad chuckled as he leaned against the piano.
"We're just about done. Ready to go?" He asked.
"No, but you know if I had my way I'd be here all night. So we can go" I said with a smirk.
"I'm just glad you're feeling better he said as he started out of the room.
"Me too" I said as I followed him out.
I said goodbye to the guys before following dad outside. The fresh air felt nice as we stepped out. Dad stopped and smiled at me as he went to open the car door.
"Glad to see you feeling like yourself" he said. I smiled for a moment before realizing something.
"If only I had my skateboard" I mumbled as I joined him in the car.
"We'll get a new one. Once your feeling better" dad said. I gave a slight smile and leaned my head against the window as we drove home.
It was pretty late when we got home, and I was feeling tired. I almost fell asleep in the car. Dad looked over at me as he stopped the car and chuckled.
"Energy's still not fully back?" He asked. I just yawned and opened the car door. "That's alright, you'll be yourself again in no time" he said as he got out of the car. I followed him inside and immediately plopped myself onto the couch.
"I just wanna nap" I mumbled into the cushion.
"Alright bud, I'll wake you for dinner" dad said before entering the kitchen. I closed my eyes and tried getting some rest in that time.
"Parker, wake up" I awoke to dad standing over me. "Hungry?" He asked. I nodded and sat up. After yawning and stretching, I followed dad to the kitchen. He had two plates of lasagna sitting at the kitchen table.
"Looks good" I mumbled with a sleepy voice.
"Thank you" dad said as we both sat down. We ate in silence as I was too tired to y'all. Dad didn't seem to mind, I wouldn't be surprised if he was tired too.
After dinner I helped dad clean up. After we finished with the dishes I told him I was going to bed.
"Have a good night Park" he said as I started up the stairs.
"Night dad. Thanks for today" I said.
"No problem bud, glad you're feeling better" he said as I reached the top of the stairs. I went straight to my room and fell back into my bed. Today wasn't easy, but I did it. I just had to keep pushing forward.
