I'm Not Him
Another day, another day of school. At least it was Friday. I dragged myself out of bed when my alarm went off to start the new day. I was surprised when I went downstairs that dad wasn't around. He must have left early.
After a quick breakfast, I went to my room to put on some fresh clothes. I picked out my white tshirt with a purple flannel over it, some black jeans, and my black PS4 snapback to top it off. Once I determined I looked fine, I grabbed my bag and board and took off for school.
I got to school earlier then I thought I would. Since it was too early to go to class, I decided to hang out in the library after stopping by my locker. I found a table in the corner away from all the other students, so I chose to sat there. I took out a notebook and my earbuds and started doodling while listening to some music. I made sure it wasn't too loud so I could still hear the bell.
"Excuse me, are you Parker Smith?" I looked up to see two girls staring at me. "Uh, yeah. What's up?" I asked, taking out my earbud.
"We heard your dad is in a band. That must be so cool" said the blonde girl.
"Are you also in a band?" The black haired girl asked.
"Uh, no. Not currently, but I play..." I couldn't finish my sentence as they both screamed.
"You play? You have to play for us one day" the blonde one said.
"Sorry, I don't perform" I said, shoving my notebook in my bag and getting up to leave.
"You are so rude!" The one with black hair shouted. I just gave them the middle finger without looking back. It didn't happen often, but I hated those who were "nice" just to meet my dad or get a free show.
I found Daisy hanging out in the hall with some of her friends.
"Hey Daze" I said with a smile.
"Hey Parker! I was just talking about you" She said. Oh no, this can't be good. I was about to defend myself when one of her friends spoke up.
"Oh yeah, we have a class together. He is pretty chill" she said. I smiled and nodded. It was nice having a friend who treated me as a human and not just someone who can play for others.
I talked with Daisy and her friends until it was time to go to class. I walked to biology, ready for another long and boring class. It was hard not to fall asleep again. I was so glad to hear that bell ring, allowing me to forget that class until Monday.
I had some time before history started, but I knew Daisy was probably with David again so I decided to go straight to the classroom.
"Mr. Smith, you're early" Mrs. Hanson said as I took my seat. I just shrugged and took out my notebook.
"Didn't feel like socializing today" I said. Mrs. Hanson smiled and got back to organizing her desk. I doodled in my notebook while waiting for class to start.
I watched kids walk into class, all socializing with at least one other person. I noticed I was the only one to walk in alone. I had a hard time making friends, alright? If it wasn't for Daisy I wouldn't talk to anyone here. Mrs. Hanson started her lecture as soon as everyone settled down. I did my best to follow along and take notes, but I couldn't focus. There was just too much on my mind lately.
After class I headed to lunch. I grabbed a sandwich and apple juice, then headed to my usual table. I was surprised Daisy wasn't there. Maybe I was early?
"Hey Parker. Drum us a beat" said a boy at the table to my right. His friends started laughing.
"Shut up" I snapped. I picked up my tray and walked to the other end of the cafeteria. Still no sign of Daisy. A group of girls tried waving me down but I ignored them. I sat at an empty table in the corner and pulled out my phone. Debating if I should text Daisy to ask where she was, or my dad to come pick me up, I ended up just staring at my lock screen.
Lunch felt so long without Daisy. It wasn't like her to not show up. Once the bell rang I found her laughing in the hall with two other girls.
"Hey Daisy?" I tapped her shoulder. She spun around and smiled at me.
"Parker! Sorry I didn't sit with you at lunch, I went to the library with these two" she said warmly.
"That's okay" I said. I didn't want her knowing I felt hurt. "I'll see you later" I said as I walked to my next class.
I walked into English in a bad mood. Maybe my favorite class could make me feel better. Mr. Dost let me sit in the hall to read, letting me escape the other students. No one in this class was a problem, I just wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone. I put some music to listen to as I read, getting lost in the story. I found it relaxing.
I didn't want English to end, but the bell rang so I had to get going to my next class. As I walked through the halls, a kid suddenly pinned me to the lockers.
"Hey kid. Heard your dad is in a band, is that true?" He asked.
"I don't want to talk about" I said, struggling to break free from him. He slammed me back again.
"I think it is true. You should introduce us" he said with a grin.
"Fuck off" I spit. The kid growled and punched me in the stomach.
"Careful what you say kid. You'll never be as good as him with that attitude" he whispered in my ear. That made me snap. I used all my force to shove him off me and I swung. We broke out into a full fight with kids swarming to watch. Suddenly, I felt a pair of arms grab me and pull me off.
"Both of you to the principal's office!" The teacher yelled.
"Yes ma'am" the other boy said. I just silently nodded and followed them down the hall.
I sat in the hall, my right ear and nose bleeding, and a sharp pain in my side. I shouldn't have messed with someone twice as big as me. The other kid was talking to the principal, giving his side of the story. I had a feeling I would be the bad guy, no matter what I said. I didn't care at this point, I just wanted to go home.
My dad came rushing down the hall and stopped in front of me.
"Parker, are you okay?" He asked, kneeling in front of me. I couldn't look at him. I was too ashamed. I knew he didn't want me getting into fight.
"I'm sorry dad" I whispered.
The principal came out of the office and greeted my dad with a handshake.
"Mister Smith here has gotten himself into some trouble. I believe suspension for a week is good punishment" He said sternly.
"Yes sir. I'll make sure Parker learns his lesson" my dad said. Guess they don't want to hear my side of the story. "Come on Parker" dad said. He helped me stand up and to my locker. I grabbed my bag and skateboard before following dad out to the car. I was definitely in for an earful...
