Back to Normal?

My week off from school flew by quickly. I used that time wisely to practice as much as I could. Dad and I were even having pleasant conversations again, without any tension or awkward silence. Sunday night came and I was happy with how much I learned in the week. What I wasn't happy with was going back to school.

It was stormy out, so I sat in my room by the window listening to the rain and watching the lightning.
"You know, you really proved your growth this week" I turned around to see dad standing in my doorway. I smiled as he walked in and sat in my bed.
"It was a good week. I wish I could work with you and the others more"
"Well, you only have a month left of school" He chuckled. I rolled my eyes at the thought.
"Ugh, I'm not ready to go back"
"It will be over before you know it. Besides, aren't you happy to see your friends again?" I looked back out the window and sighed after hearing that.
"You sure you want me hanging out with Daisy? After last weekend?" I asked.
"She's a good kid, something tells me the party wasn't her idea, and if it was, I'm sure she's learned like you did"
"I think your right. I'm pretty sure it was all David's idea anywhere" I laughed. Dad laughed with me before standing up again.
"Well, you should get some rest. I'm sure tomorrow will be busy for you"
"Alright. Goodnight dad"
"Goodnight Parker" he walked out my room, closing the door behind him. I stood up from my spot by the window and crawled into bed. I was too worried about tomorrow to fall asleep right away. I stared at my ceiling thinking until passing out a few hours later.

My alarm woke me up early in the morning. I groaned as I leaned over to shut it off. Sitting up, I yawned and stretched. I really wanted to go back to sleep, but I couldn't be late my first day back. I walked over to the closet to pick out an outfit before my shower.

I decided to wear a black tank top with a red flannel over it, my black ripped jeans, and a black cap to top it off. I took a quick shower before putting the outfit on. I made sure I looked my best before heading to my room to grab my backpack. Once I made sure I had everything I needed, I headed downstairs.

"Hey bud, ready for today?" Dad was in the kitchen eating cereal while leaning against the counter.
"As ready as I can be" I picked up my skateboard and opened the front door.
"Feel free to stop by the studio after school. I should still be there"
"Okay. See you then dad"
"Have a good day!" I closed the door just as dad finished his sentence. I walked to the end of the driveway before jumping on my skateboard and taking off towards the school.

I jumped off my board as I got on school grounds and approached the building. Daisy was standing outside with David and another girl.
"Parker!" She almost screamed my name as she came running towards me. I smiled as she got closer, holding my arms out to grab her. She jumped into my arms and we held each other for a moment. Man it felt good to see her again.
"Excuse me" I put Daisy down to see David had walked over, and he didn't look happy. I was going to say something, but then I remembered my promise to dad. No more causing trouble.
"David, you remember Parker" Daisy said, still smiling. I noticed she was standing closer to him now.
"Right. The one whose dad ruined our party" he said, eyeing me up and down.
"Aw, Mr. Smith was just worried" Daisy tried reassuring David, but I knew it was pointless.
"I'm going to head to class. I'll see you later Daisy" I started walking into the school, leaving Daisy with her boyfriend.

I went to my locker to put my skateboard away. When I closed the door, I was surprised by Cody standing on the other side.
"Sorry to scare you. Where have you been?" He asked, tilting his head. I paused a moment, lost in his hazel eyes.
"I Uh, I was suspended for a week. Got into a fight the week before" I admitted shyly.
"You don't seem like a fighter"
"Well I was just defending myself"
"Oh. That's cool" I smiled, trying not to blush as he spoke. "Well, see you later Parker" I can't believe he remembered my name. I watched him walk off, losing track of him to the crowd of students in the hall. I leaned against my locker, thinking of him.

The bell rang, snapping me back into reality. I rushed down the hall to make it to biology in time.
"Good to see you back Mr. Smith" Mr. Brown greeted me as I walked into the classroom.
"Good to be back sir" I took my seat and waited for class to begin. I stressed out during the lecture once I realized how much I missed in just a week. I struggled to keep up with notes, trying not to think of what I could've missed.

Mr. Brown wrapped up the lecture right as the bell rang, giving me no time to talk to him. I left the classroom feeling kinda down.

I went straight to History, planning on using the time between classes to catch up with Mrs. Hanson. That didn't end up happening as when I walked into the room, she wasn't there. A substitute teacher sat at her desk instead, and I was sure he'd be no help. I sighed and took my seat, using the time to try and understand my biology notes.

We didn't do much in history figuring our teacher was out, so that made things easier for me. The sub just put a movie on for us, and I ended up sleeping through most of it. I awoke to the bell going off. I shoved everything back into my bag and rushed out to the hall. I thought for a moment of where Daisy could be before remembering her last class. I took off towards it, hoping to bump into her on the way.

I got to Daisy's art class but didn't see her. Maybe she was already in the cafeteria. I walked down the hall, one hand on my backpack strap as it hung on my shoulder. I made my way down to the cafeteria and noticed how full it was. I guess it filled up quickly, I usually went straight there after class and didn't have a problem finding a table. I went into the lunch line and grabbed a sandwich and apple juice. Carrying my tray tightly in my hands, I walked around the entire cafeteria in hopes of finding Daisy.

"Hey Parker!" I turned around only to see Cody waving me down.
"Hey Cody" I said with a small smile.
"Come sit with me" he patted the empty seat next to him. I took a look around the room before decided to accept. I sat down, placing my tray on the table and my bag under my seat.

Sitting with Cody ended up being nice. We talked the whole time, and I got to know more about him. He loved hockey , video games, and art.
"What about you Park? What do you do for fun?" He asked.
"Mostly play music. You know, piano, guitar, drums"
"Oh yeah. You played that song the other night. I'd love to hear you play more" I blushed at his response.
"Oh, thanks" The bell rang before I could say any more.
"Well, nice seeing you" Cody winked as he stood up, grabbing his bag and leaving. I grabbed my bag and threw my tray away before following him out.

I lost Cody to the crowd but found Daisy.
"Hey! Where were you?" She asked.
"I tried looking for you but couldn't find you. I sat with Cody instead"
"Oh! I hope you two had a good time" she nudged my side and winked before walking off. I rolled my eyes and walked to class.

Mr. Dost greeted me as I walked into the room.
"Ah Parker. Glad to see you. Have you been reading?" He asked. Shit, I was too focused on the studio to read.
"Sorry Mr. Dost, I was working all week" I admitted. I couldn't lie to my favorite teacher.
"Okay then, spend this class catching up then" he said. I thanked him and sat down. I pulled my book out of my bag and started. I put my headphones in and played some music to drown out the rest of the class, helping me focus on my book.

"Parker? The bell rang" I looked up, removing my headphones to see Mr. Dost standing over me.
"Sorry. Must have gotten lost in the reading" I put my book away and said goodbye before heading out of the room. I walked down the hall towards my next class, annoyed that school couldn't just end now. I knew after a week off I wouldn't catch back up in German, so I really didn't see a point going.

"Guten Abend Herr Smith" Herr Knight greeted me as I walked into the class.
"Yeah, hello mr Knight" he did not like me not using my German, but I didn't care anymore. This language used to be fun to learn, but this class took the fun out of it. I sat in the back of the room, pulling out a notebook to doodle in. I just wanted to get this over with.

Herr Knight passed out some worksheets for us. I did my best, but I only knew about half of what I needed to. The bell rang after what felt like hours of classwork. I got up, grabbed my bag, and placed my half finished work on Herr A knight's desk before walking out. I walked quickly in hopes he wouldn't notice and stop me.

I stopped by my locker to grab my skateboard before heading out the front doors of the school. Just as I was about to jump on my board, I heard a car horn. I turned around to see my dad sitting in his car in the parking lot. I jogged over to the car.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I placed my bag and board in the back seat.
"We finished early today so I wanted to surprise you" he said as I got into the car.  "So how was school?"
"Weird" I said as I buckled my seatbelt. "I was glad to be back, but I missed a lot"
"You'll catch up" dad said. I smiled and leaned my head against the window. I was just glad today was over with
