Prologue
Morning. A time of day that many people dreads so much. The main reasons for this being the blinding light of the rising sun flashing across the awakening eyes of people waking up, some people dealing with the consequences of drinking all night or those who has to go to school, work etc.
Jason Silva was no exception to these people. He woke up, eyes almost closed, with his bedsheets sprawled all over his body as he groaned. He sat up straight before stretching. His bones and cartilage cracking as he does so with an audible groan and yawn. He got out of the sheets that covered him before getting off his bed so he could start his day.
"Another day another pain." Said Jason as he cracked the vertebrae in his neck by tilting his head to the left and right while running his hands through his messy, greasy hair. He stood up hunching his back as he dragged his feet to the bathroom of his small apartment. It was a mess as always but that was how his apartment usually was since he lived alone seldom received visits from people. All that he had was his pet black cat which looked at him with black slitted amber eyes. It stretched its body before making its way to Jason's leg where it rubbed its cute little head.
"Morning Shade, how'd your little cat nap go?" Jason asked the cat before picking it up and cradling it in his scarred arms. Shade began to pur as it snuggled its head into Jason's torso. This brought a smile to Jason's face before he gently put the small feline down on the floor.
"Okay Shade, just give me ten minutes to wash up and I'll give you some food okay?" Jason told the cat who 'meow'd' in response. "Good cat."
The young man walked away from his cat and went to the bathroom to inspect himself in the mirror. What Jason saw was a mess of a man. His face was blackened with filth, messy hair bursting around like a wild bush and his beard was messy, itchy and untamable much like his hair. He sighed in disgust at what he looked like. It sickened him as he saw how pathetic he looked. He grimaced before getting out of his clothes and getting into the shower. He opened the faucet and let the steaming hot water pour out of the showerhead and into his filth ridden skin. As he felt the stinging sensation of the water on his skin he began to remember the events that led up to him feeling so pathetic as an adult.
As he looked back and did some introspection on his life Jason realised that he could've tried harder to do the things he wanted to do. He was always quick to give up and where did that get him? In a small apartment, with no wife, no child and a dead end job with the worst co-workers ever. The only thing that highlighted his day was Shade and who knew how long it would be until the cat's outgrown him.
These thoughts further depressed Jason. But with that depression, a newfound realisation was born. As soon as he was done in the shower he stepped out with hot steaming water dripping off his tanned body. He looked at himself in the fogged up mirror and glared at his reflection. "Much better." He said to himself as he felt the cool air collide with his hot skin.
"As good as that shower was, I'm gonna need to do something about this." Jason said as he looked long hair and beard, "And I know just where to go."
As soon as Jason dried himself off he got dressed in the cleanest and most appealing outfit before leaving his apartment, but not without feeding Shade.
As he walked throughout the streets of his small town he began to think about things. Things like where his future was headed. He may have been a quitter in life but even he knew that he couldn't go through it living the same thing day in day out.
Without even realising it Jason made it to the barber shop, exactly where he was planning on going. The man must have been so lost in thought that he walked there instinctively. He found this strange but like every occourance in his life he simply shrugged it off.
Unbeknownst to Jason somebody had been watching him from across the street in a dark alley. This someone was a rather small child, a girl. She had long brown hair, hazel eyes dirtied skin along with rags for clothing. Like Jason she had a look of depression on her face. It was worse for the girl though since she seemed to be an abandoned child.
Every day she is forced to watch as people passes by with out a single one sparing a single glance at her. The only thing she had was some lady who came by every day to give her food and water but she stopped coming by nearly two weeks ago, and even though the girl was fed she did not receive a lot of food so she was malnourished. Her body didn't have a speck of fat on it and her bones were quite visible, even through her rags.
What befalls her fate is unknown at the current moment. Hopefully it would be something good.
