Chapter 40 : Astoria
Astoria
As soon as I made it up to my room, I pulled out my trunk from out of the closet. I took all of my clothes off the hangers and threw them in. I grabbed my books from the nightstand and smiled as I looked down onto the book of Paris. My beautiful, magical Paris. I closed the trunk on top of it. As soon as I was about to wave my wand, I heard voices coming from downstairs. I walked out and looked over the railing, down into the foyer where I saw Draco and another blonde talking. They didn’t look like friends, but they were tolerating each other. The other guy was kind of cute. I couldn’t hear what they were saying because they we whispering. Then Draco led the other guy into the kitchen. I shrugged it off and went back into my room and took my wand back out. With a flick, my trunk vanished onto the next place for me.
I know that it sounded stupid that I went to Beautbateux in France and never went to Paris, but it’s the truth. I was born and raised in England, the only place I felt suffocated. I couldn’t go back there because Voldemort’s followers were there. I wasn’t lying when I said that I infiltrated the school. I’m just too good at sneaking around.
With one fleeting look around my guest room, I sighed. Draco had been nothing but good to me, and I just jerked him around. I felt really guilty about it but at least he had no hard feelings. He had been my only friend there, and I couldn’t let my façade down and let the real me out. It was something that I had issues with: trust. He was good, and I didn’t deserve his friendship or anything else for that matter. With that in mind, I pulled of the fake engagement ring and set it gently down on the dresser. I felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders as I stared down at the glittering diamond. It was amazing that I could just break that bond just like that.
I felt powerful.
I felt like I could do anything.
I felt like I could go to Paris.
And that’s exactly what I was going to do.
I tip toed down the stairs to find Draco, the blonde guy, and that girl they brought in the other day. Her long brown hair was a mess, and she looked like she hadn’t slept in days. I didn’t know that they had kept it. How awful is must’ve been for her to sit down there all alone.
“Astoria,” Draco started. “You-“
“No worries,” I smiled at him for a moment. “I wouldn’t tell a soul.”
He smiled at me, in a friendly way. “Thank you.”
“You guys can come with me,” I focused on the other guy and girl. “I’m leaving as well, and you need a safe way out.”
Draco looked at me oddly. “But you-“
“I can’t do what I want,” I smirked at him, “and I’m leaving. Don’t try to stop me.”
“You’re not in love with him?” the girl asked in almost a panic. “How can you not be in love with him?”
I raised an eyebrow up at him. “Because I’m not. Yes, we kissed. Actually, I kissed him, but I was just curious. There was nothing in that kiss, do you don’t have to worry. There’s nothing that’s keeping me here, so just don’t worry and let’s go.”
She nodded and clung to the other guy. Draco stared at me in disbelief, which I shrugged off. I waved at him and led the way to the front door. I had months of planning my get away, and I wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away. I looked around and saw nothing, so I waved them ahead. I let them pass me as I looked back at Draco. It would be the last time I saw him, so I threw him a smile that said thank you. I was grateful to him to give me the courage to go on. I was almost free.
With a click of the door, I looked over at the couple that was waiting on me. I smirked at them before leading them all the way to the spot where you could apparate without being followed. They thanked me, but I didn’t say anything. I just merely smiled before disappearing into the darkness.
A/N: Last Astoria POV. I know she hasn’t been there long, but she was an important part of Draco’s life just remember that. We’ll find out what happens to her later on. Speaking of which, this story is coming to a close. I know, shocking right? I don’t upload a lot for this story so I thought I should just set it as my priority and just end it so I don’t break anyone’s heart anymore.
