I have a shadow that I barely realize that it's there

He has always been my second choice,

Who can't share the pain with my mom when I enter the world

I hug her first, he smiles

My first word is "mom", he cries

I go to her when I first walk my trembling steps, he is behind me worrying that I might fall

I answer "mom",

Every time my relatives ask "who do you like more, dad or mom?"

Even my name is my mom's choice.

But when a bird leaves its nest,

He asks about my troubles, about my triumph victories

When I visit, he cooks me my favourite food,

Takes me to my favourite places

They've said a dad's daughter this life is his last life's lover

He is someone that is always there, loves me no matter what

When I'm in the light,  or when I'm in the dark

My dad, my shadow-

The person I love the most in my heart.
