No need to get your knickers in a twist

He had dark circles under his eyes, messier than usual hair, a mean look plastered on his face, and didn't even say good morning to any of his dorm mates. Things like that only meant one thing: Harry was in a bad mood.

Draco was positive that Harry didn't sleep at all the night before. When he woke up at 3:00 am to use the bathroom, he saw Harry just sitting and staring at a wall. He didn't think anything of it as he was half asleep, but now that he was fully awake, he realized that this was the likely cause of Harry's moodiness. Draco tried to ask Harry if anything was wrong, but he just pushed pass him and walked out for an early breakfast.

Blaise and Theo were bickering over their favorite Quidditch teams, Blaise was getting really heated over Theo talking smack about his team, when Gemma called attention. Everyone looked at her immediately and halted their conversations to hear what she had to say. She smiled and started to address the first years.

"All first years should know that your flying lessons will take place on the training grounds this afternoon with the Gryffindors. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be pinning the announcement up on the notice board if you'd like to look at it," she smiled and hung up the announcement.

It was like a switch was flipped. All of a sudden, everyone started to talk about the flying lessons. Even Blaise and Theo stopped bickering and started going on about their excitement for it. There was a good amount of bragging from some people about their flying skills, too. Draco being one of them.

"Father says it'd be a crime if I'm not offered a position on the team next year," Draco told anyone who would listen, having a smug look on his face. "We have our own pitch up at the manor. Of course it's far better than the school's one and-"

Draco immediately stopped talking when he saw Snape standing in the doorway, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow at Draco.

"My apologies, Mr. Malfoy, for interrupting such an entailing exult of your home lifestyle, but I would like to have a discussion with you in my office at this time," he said before walking away swiftly.

Draco shrugged at his year mates' questioning glances and took off after Snape. He jogged up to him and entered his office. The door closed behind them and Draco stood in front of his desk.

"As breakfast is served in about ten minutes, I'll make this brief," Snape started.

Draco sat down in one of the chairs in front of his desk and looked up at the professor. Snape thought for a few seconds before continuing.

"Miss Moon and Miss Greengrass have informed me when they requested bruise paste that you and Mr. Potter are friends. I understand that you weren't present to witness the act, but did Potter ever mention anything of the incident regarding him and Mr. Weasley? Perhaps why Mr. Weasley felt the need to induce harm upon Potter?"

Draco honestly was not expecting that question at all. He thought of his conversations with Harry after the incident and couldn't remember Harry ever mentioning it again. He shook his head at the professor and shrugged.

"Harry never brought it up again after that day. Theo tried to ask him about it that night, but he just told us to forget it ever happened and to move on," he told him.

Snape seemed to be thinking. He moved forward a bit and then spoke.

"Did either of them provoke it? Was something said to the other in the days before? As his Head of House, it is my duty to make sure my students are safe and to prevent any future disputes from occurring. Are you sure it was just Mr. Weasley being aggressive and it isn't something between the two?"

Draco thought hard on any hint that Harry might have given about him and Weasley. Draco was sure that the two had never talked before.

"They have never spoken to each other before as far as I know. It could always have something to do with the rumors that are going around about Harry. Students will believe anything bad about another student and some of the rumors that are going around about Harry are pretty nasty," he recalled.

Snape nodded at Draco and looked slightly amused, yet slightly concerned.

"What are some of the rumors filtering around about him?" he asked.

Draco thought about it before answering.

"There's one that's saying he's going to become the next Dark Lord, another about him brainwashing students to start a secret army for himself within the school, and a weird one about him being an imposter disguised as Harry because nobody thinks a Potter would ever be a Slytherin."

Snape wrote in a black journal as Draco spoke. When he was finished, he snapped it shut and looked up at Draco.

"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy. You are dismissed. Just watch out for Mr. Potter for a while. Kids can be cruel," he told him before shoving him out the door and closing it in his face.

Draco stared at the door for a few seconds before walking to the Great Hall for breakfast. When he walked in, he saw Harry sitting in his usual spot drinking tea. Draco sat down in his usual seat and helped himself to some scrambled eggs and fresh cut fruit. He looked over at Harry and saw that there wasn't tea in his cup, but black coffee. He looked at Harry in disgust.

"How can you stand to drink that?" he asked.

"I can't," he replied, chugging the whole cup in one go.

Draco felt his jaw drop slightly and he still had a mixed look of surprise and disgust by the time the rest of the Slytherin first years arrived. They raised their eyebrows at him and then followed his resting gaze to Harry. They all curled their lips or grimaced at the sight of him.

"Bad morning?" Millicent asked, pouring sugar on top of her cereal.

Pansy scoffed.

"Bad? Have you looked at him? It looks as if he fell down a flight of stairs, got up, then tripped and fell out of a window, only to land in a prickly shrub! No offense, Harry," she added.

Harry glared at her and refilled his cup with the black coffee. He, again, chugged it, and earned many more disgusted looks aimed at him. He set down his cup, stood up, and then walked out of the Hall without saying anything. Draco took one more bite of his breakfast before racing out after Harry. He caught up with him and grabbed his arm.

"Merlin, Harry. I fancy myself more as a seeker than a chaser really," he said, chuckling.

Harry, however, didn't find it funny and shrugged out of Draco's grip. He tried to continue walking, but was again grabbed by Draco.

"Honestly, Harry. What's up with you today? I get you're tired and everything, but you can't act like a major grump. It's rude and I want to help you," he told him, not letting go of his arm.

Harry shook his head and sighed. He turned to face Draco and gave him a tired smile.

"I know. I'm sorry. It's the lack of sleep I get. I often have trouble sleeping and it does make me a bit of a grump when I go for a day or two without rest," he explained.

Draco nodded and gave his arm a squeeze before letting go.

"It happens, Harry. Just don't ignore me again. I can't get a Prefect or hex someone for you if I don't know what's wrong. And honestly if you ever ignore me again I will get Pansy to come after you and let's just say she's quite persistent and vicious when she doesn't get her way."

Harry laughed and so did Draco. Harry smiled up at Draco and felt at peace for the first time that day. He was still getting use to the whole 'friends' thing and forgot about the whole communication and caring factors of it.

"Well we should probably head off to class, but you'll be normal by flying lessons this afternoon, right?" he asked.

Harry knit his eyebrows in confusion.

"Flying lessons?"

Draco blinked and then realized why Harry was confused.

"Gemma put up a notice saying that we're to have flying lessons today. See what happens when you choose to be alone? You miss out on stuff!" He said as they started walking to their next class.

By the time it was time for flying lessons, Harry's mood improved slightly. He was still grouchy and growled at anyone who made a loud noise, but he was letting people talk to him.

At the lessons, the Slytherins lined up opposite of the Gryffindors. Harry stood next to Draco and Daphne while opposite from Neville. He gave Neville a wave in which Neville just nodded at him in reply. Harry still didn't understand why the Gryffindors seemed to dislike him. Had he said something?

Everything was going smoothly. Harry's broom flew right into his hands when he said 'up' and he earned a glare from Draco when he laughed at him for being told by Madam Hooch that he'd been holding his broom wrong for years. They were about to kick off when Neville started to float up into the air. Madam Hooch tried to order him down, but it just made him even more scared, which made him go even higher. He kept going and going until he slipped and fell right to the ground, landing on his arm.

"Tubby can't even stay on his broom," Malfoy snickered under his breath, which Harry elbowed him in the stomach for.

Madam Hooch left the class behind to take Neville up to the infirmary after she declared that he had a broken wrist. Well, let's just say that leaving a bunch of rowdy eleven-year-olds alone with a load of brooms is a bad idea. Draco picked up a round item off the ground, which Harry recognized as Neville's Remembrall. He had remembered hearing Neville talk about it to his friends when he had passed by and remembered him saying that it reminds him if he had forgotten anything important.

Harry walked up to Draco and took the Remembrall from him.

"You can do the honors of chucking this hard at the ground, oh dear partner in crime," Draco said in fake praise.

Harry looked at him darkly and clutched the Remembrall in his hand.

"No, Draco. Neville obviously needs it, so why would you want to destroy something he needs? It's not funny. It's just wrong," Harry scolded.

Just then, Weasley tripped Harry and took the Remembrall from him. Harry stumbled, but didn't fall, and immediately pushed him. He took the Remembrall back and glared at him.

"What's your deal, huh?" Harry yelled.

"That's Neville's you slimy snake!" Weasley yelled back.

Harry rolled his eyes at Weasley and mounted his broom.

"I know that you idiot. If you want it so bad, then come and get it," he told him and took off on his broom.

Weasley cursed at him and then took off on his own broom. He flew right in front of Harry and held out his hand.

"Give it here Potter or I'll knock you off your broom!" He yelled with authority in his voice.

"Whoever catches it first gets to keep it," Harry told him before throwing the Remembrall.

Weasley immediately took off, but was extremely wobbly in the air. Harry gave him a few seconds, then took off as well. He glided through the air, did a barrel roll, and then went into a steep dive in order to catch the Remembrall just seconds before it smashed off the ground. He did a loop and then landed softly on the ground, waving the Remembrall in the air in triumph. He didn't get to bask in the glory long, however, when Professor Snape strode across the grounds and took Harry by his collar.

"Breaking school rules are we?" he drawled. "Mr. Finnigan, if you'd be so kind as to return this item back to its respective owner, it'd be much appreciated," he said, giving Seamus the Remembrall.

"Mr. Weasley, I have contacted your Head of House and she should be arriving soon to deal with you," he informed a sneering Ron.

Snape dragged Harry across the field, into the castle, and down to his office. He practically threw Harry in a chair and stood over him with his hands on his hips.

"Tell me why I caught you flying through the air doing dangerous stunts while there was no adult figure in sight. Tell me why you decided to be- to be so utterly foolish and idiotic as to race Mr. Weasley on brooms that you have yet to learn how to use," Snape demanded.

Harry had gone white and his hands were shaking slightly. He looked down at his shoes and fidgeted.

"Draco had taken Neville's Remembrall, sir and when I got it from him, Weasley demanded me to hand it to him. I suppose I just wanted to annoy Weasley, so I challenged him to race for it. If he really wanted it, he would catch it is what I thought. I'm sorry, sir. I wasn't thinking," he told Snape.

Snape pinched the bridge of his nose and sat down.

"Yes, well you better be sorry because you now have detention with me and have lost Slytherin five points."

Harry kept his head down in shame and just sat there waiting for Snape to dismiss him. Instead, Snape stood up and started pacing.

"Your flying was excellent by the way. Extraordinarily good for a scrawny first year. I shall inform Flint to schedule to have you try out for the quidditch team. As idiotic as you were acting in the air, it was definitely a smooth fly. I feel you could be an exception to the rules of having no first years on the quidditch teams," he said.

Harry's head shot up and he looked at Snape in disbelief.

"Me? On the quidditch team? Are you sure, Professor."

"Would I be going through the trouble of doing this for you if I was not sure, Potter?" he responded.

Harry was dismissed after that and he skipped to his dorm. He had a lot to think about that night.
