Chapter 27
BEEP BEEP BEEP
"UGH!" I groaned as I turned over and slapped my hand down on the alarm, turning it off as Calum whined next to me.
"Okay, maybe going back to work was a bad idea, I liked sleeping in." He grumbled.
"Me too." I nestled back into him.
"Okay, shower time." He sighed after about five minutes and got out of the bed and I laid there for a few minutes before siting up so I could put on my brace.
I then stood and reached for my crutches before making my way to the kitchen for some coffee.
I usually kept the coffee in the cabinet next to the sink but it wasn't there.
I went back to the bedroom and opened the bathroom door, steam coming out of the shower.
"Cal, where's the coffee?"
"In the cabinet over the coffee maker." He called back.
"Stop moving my stuff!"
"Yeah yeah." He said and I laughed as I crutched back to the kitchen, finally making the coffee.
Calum came out a few minutes later with a towel wrapped around his waist.
"Ugh, put on clothes that's not fair." I whined, his muscles and abs so perfect.
"You're the one making us wait so don't complain." He came over and kissed my cheek.
I let out a childish whine and he continued to
chuckle as he made his own coffee.
I then went to get dressed and do my hair and makeup before Calum and I left for the station.
We stopped by Luke's house to pick him up, the lanky boy climbing in the back seat.
"Can we stop for coffee?" Luke asked.
"Do I look like your chauffeur?" Calum scoffed.
"Well considering you picked me up and i'm now in the backseat as you drive me to my destination then yes."
I giggled at their exchange.
We drove through Starbucks and once we made our way to the station they helped me in and I sat down at my desk, preparing for the work load ahead of me.
I had voice mails and emails and errands to run.
I was beginning to take down the phone messages when I got a call from Captain Sutherland, asking me to come to his office.
I made my way through the halls until I reached his office.
"What can I do for you?" I sat down in one of the chairs.
"Well, Officers Harding and Russo will be coming back next week and I wanted to throw them a welcome back party and was hoping you would plan it for me."
"Of course! I'd love to! Is there anything in particular you want done?"
"Just a good ol' fashioned welcome back party. Have Hood help you if you need it."
"Awesome. Thank you." I smiled and left his office, making my way to Calum's.
"Hey, so guess what I get to do." I said as I sat down on his desk.
"What?" He smiled as he looked up from his computer, giving me his full attention.
"I get to plan the welcome back party for Officer Russo and Harding."
"That's great!" He grinned. "Let me know if you need help."
"I will." I smiled.
"Okay, now how about we do that five minutes of walking without the crutches that the doctor suggested?"
"Fine."
Calum stood up and took my crutches from me before standing in front of me, taking my hands.
"Alright, now stand up, both feet on the ground."
I did as such, my arms shaking a bit and I grabbed his hands tightly before placing both feet on the ground, wobbling a bit.
"Good. How does it feel?"
"Strange, kinda hurts." I bit my lip.
"I know, just take one step."
I shakily took a step.
"Good. Good, baby take one more."
I limped forward again.
Calum had me keep going until I was out of the office.
"Let's go to the front door." He encouraged me.
"Calum this really freaking hurts." I whimpered.
"I know, I know, just a few more steps and you can take a break."
I took five more steps until I reached the front door and then stopped to take a breather for a few minutes before going back to Calum's office. I didn't want to let go of his hands yet and I don't think he was complaining but he encouraged me to keep going which made me feel a whole lot better about it.
"I think I deserve a coffee for that."
"I'm on it, babe."
He got me a coffee as I finished off my shift at the station and then he drove me to Connie's for my afternoon shift.
We kissed goodbye and I made my way into the shop.
"She's back! Thank God!" Kate screeched, and ran up to me, tackling me in the best hug she could without knocking over my crutches.
I was more than happy to be back to a normal routine. Kate and I gossiped about all of the drama that I had missed, and then spent two hours diving into the depths of my relationship with Calum.
She felt like the fact that Calum was willing to wait to consummate our relationship was a good sign, that meant he wanted to take it slow and at my pace. And the fact that he had asked me to move in meant he was thinking about our future already, so he must really like me, but Kate agreed that it was definitely too soon.
But she said she had never seen him this smitten, even with Meredith, and he had married her.
"He just has heart eyes whenever he looks at you. It's adorable, Nessa." She swooned.
I also told her about meeting Meredith's parents and how the day after Calum had told them, the woman who had walked in was Meredith's mom.
"How sneaky!" Kate gasped. "Did you say something?"
"No! I don't know what to say!"
How could I tell Calum that Meredith's mother had come to spy on me after he had confessed our relationship to her now, days after I had officially met her? It would be awkward and would probably piss Calum off and I didn't want to deal with that.
After the lunch rush I was sitting on a bar stool behind the counter when Calum, Luke, Michael, and Ashton walked in.
Calum smiled when he saw me and I spun around to face him as he walked around the counter, breaking Kate's rule.
"Hey hey hey, get out." She swatted at him but he just rolled his eyes at her and instead came to wrap his arms around me.
"Hi." He whispered in my ear as he kissed my temple.
"Hi." I giggled and then kissed his cheek.
"Don't be gross." Luke grumbled. "I saw enough while you two practically were making out in the Starbucks drive through line."
"Oh, shut up." I stuck my tongue out at him.
As Kate went to make the guys lunch, Calum stayed there with me.
"So tonight, I guess i'll move my stuff back in to my own home." He spoke.
"Okay." I frowned as I rubbed his shoulder.
"I'll pack up and then we can pick up the kids from my parents house and head back to my place before I have my night shift."
"You need to rest before your night shift."
"I'll go home now and get some sleep until I need to pick you up."
"Okay." I smiled and kissed him a few times.
Calum waved as he left with his lunch and I worked for a bit longer until Calum texted me to say he was waiting outside.
I told Kate goodbye and then left the store, Calum helping me into the car and we took off to my place where he began to carry things to his car.
I helped him put things in his duffle like clothes and shoes and his toiletries.
"This is kinda sad." He said as he zipped up his bag.
"I know." I gave him a half smile.
"Okay, i've just got this and one more thing. I'll meet you at the car." He kissed my cheek.
I went out to the car, sitting there for a few minutes until he came out and placed his bag in the trunk.
He then got in the front seat, kissing my hand before we took off to his parents house to get his kids.
Once a bubbly Eli and a giggling Cade were in the backseat, I had them tell us about their day while Calum drove us to his place.
He dropped his bags in the bedroom when we arrived and I set my self up on the living room floor in order to play legos and dinosaurs with Eli and Cade.
Calum came out a while later in his uniform and sat down beside me on the floor.
"I'm gonna head out. You three okay?" He asked, nodding to the kids.
"Yeah, we'll be fine." I smiled.
"Okay. Call me if you need anything, and i'll be back at 2:00."
"Okay."
He leaned in to kiss me and then we heard a gasp and my eyes went wide as we broke the kiss to see Eli grinning from ear to ear.
"You kissed! I saw you!" He pointed at us.
Calum and I looked at each other before laughing.
"You weren't supposed to see that." Calum laughed as he pulled Eli over to him.
"But I did."
"I know." He shook his head. "I gotta go to work now."
Calum stood, hugged and kissed Eli and Cade goodbye before leaving.
It was a bit difficult to take care of two kids while on crutches, but I managed, Eli having to help me when it was time to give them a bath.
But he was good at helping me and held my crutches for me while I put Cade in his pull-up and then rocked him to sleep.
Eli was easy to put to bed and then I made myself comfy on the sofa, curling up under a blanket while I watched the television.
It was hard to not fall asleep as I waited and I was almost asleep when the front door opened, Calum walking in.
"Hey, baby." He smiled at me.
"Hi." I gave him a sleepy smile as I stretched my arms. "How was it keeping Dahlonega safe from bad guys tonight?"
"Good." He laughed, walking over to me. "Caught three bad guys trying to break into the high school."
"Ooo, well done."
"I'll change and then take you home." He kissed me, smirking before walking back to the bedroom.
I noticed Luke standing in the entry and smiled at him as I tried to stand and get my crutches.
"So, you and Calum aren't going to move in together?" He asked me.
"No, not yet anyway."
"But someday?"
I gave him a look.
"Go ahead, spill." I said.
He sighed.
"I just don't want Calum to get hurt again. The breakup was bad the first time, and I don't know how he'll take it if you guys don't work out. He really likes you."
"I know, and I really like him too. I'm hoping this works out too, but we have to take our time. I know that if we moved in together now it would be too soon."
He nodded.
"You're good for him, Nessa."
I smiled.
"Yes she is, now if you'll excuse us, i've gotta take my really good for me girlfriend home." Calum came up behind me. "We'll be back."
I gave Luke an awkward smile before leaving with Calum.
It was pretty quiet on the drive back to my house since we were both tired and when he pulled up to my house I sighed.
"I'll see you in the morning." I leaned over to kiss him.
"Okay." He smiled. "I wish I was staying the night."
"Oh me too, but one night won't kill us."
"It might." He grumbled as we continued to kiss.
"If it does then you can say I told you so."
After another minute of making out I finally got out of the car and crutched up to my house.
I waved at Calum who watched me walk in and then closed the door behind me.
He drove off once I had locked the door and then I made my way to my room, getting ready for bed.
When I entered the bathroom to my surprise there was a stack of clothes with a toothbrush on top on the counter.
I moved forward to see a sticky note under the brush and picked it up, smiling so wide it was ridiculous, but I had the most amazing boyfriend by my side, and I didn't know how I would ever find someone better than him.
Decided to keep some things here in case you break your other leg. Hope you don't mind. Also, I meant what I said the other night- I really do see myself falling in love with you.
