OCtober 2024 (Part 4)

OCtober Community Week! Both the one that I was looking forward too – love working with others!! – and kinda nervous about – I have no idea what to do. Like obvious they listed all of this stuff, but it's kinda centered around Tumblr (obviously, that's where Bweird posted the template and that's their main social media) and doesn't really work here on Wattpad (Is this a sign I should start sharing my OCs on Tumblr? Maybe, but new things scare me and I will never leave my internet comfort zone unless force. RIP.)

Plus, I ended up having a really weird week, where I started off thinking I was busy and then a lot of stuff got moved at the last second. So, basically, I did a lot of school work I didn't need to do – but thought I did – so I had no time to do all the drawings I wanted.

RIP.

Thankfully, only one day is required this week. Hooray?

Anyway, this is going to be way less formal. Instead of splitting this into days and doing 7 different things, I'm going to do something fun really quick and then just...talk about my friends' (if I can be presumptuous about my relationship to people online lol) OCs and fics that I really like.

Also, just being upfront, I do plan to be tagging people in this chapter (or trying to tag – in comment tagging doesn't always work for me.) I did my best to be respectful and not tag people I know don't like it (and also only tag people the first time I mention them. IDK if you guys would get notifications for every single time I tag, or just once per chapter, but just in case.)

But if I do tag you and you don't like it, I'm really sorry, I was not intending to be rude (I just wanted people to be able to easily go to the accounts, especially if I mention a story!), and please let me know.

OK, first, the Just For Fun section. This is going to take a long explanation, so sit with me (or, if you're not interested, skip.)

blythering has a Percy Jackson next gen fic called Deep End, their OC for which is their version of Estelle Jackson. The plot is about Estelle wanting to be a hero, despite being mortal and not a demigod, and going with the applied OCs to get a wish from Tyche. In a comment chain – I can't remember where, I think it was on one of my books? – we started joking about Deep End and my Attie Jackson series being set in the same universe.

Specifically how well the Attie Jackson characters would do at babysitting Estelle. Because that kid – I love her so much – is handful, and not all of my OCs are great with kids, so the combination is inevitably hilarious.

And like. I don't think that's ever going to be a canon thing. Estelle is only going to be a baby in the Attie Jackson series, if she ever shows up, and Deep End started before my series started so of course there's no sign of connection. But I'm obsessed with Blythering's version of Estelle, and so this concept has been right stuck deep, deep in my brain.

So, anyway, long story short, I have decided to rate my OCs on how well I think they could babysit Deep End Estelle. Or, well, a younger version of Deep End Estelle (she's like sixteen during the book so that feels a bit old for baby sitting) but TBH that just makes it funnier. Estelle is already chaotic, I can't imagine when she's younger.

⸻ Odde Songsmith : 9/10. On the surface, it seems like such a bad idea. And Odde definitely loses some points because they can not, for their life, stop making being a demigod sound cool. They're a story teller! It's what they do!

But where Odde excels is the fact that she's great at keeping Estelle out of trouble without looking like she's keeping Estelle out of trouble. They definitely have Estelle doing "quests" that will let her feel like a badass, but have no threat involved and are entirely controlled by Odde themself.

⸻ Veerle Barr : 9/10. Responsible, probably great with kids, doesn't draw too many monsters. Basically, what every parent wants in a babysitter. Loses a point because I'm quite sure Estelle would find her boring. Won't let her do ANYTHING dangerous, and certainly not even think about fighting monsters.

⸻ Attie Jackson : Starting with the titular character herself. 7/10.

She gets a big boost for being Estelle's older sibling and for being pretty responsible about keeping Estelle away from monsters and the mythical world. Loses some points because Attie tends to spoil spoil her sister in literally everything else (and, despite her best attempts, there is always the fact she's a child of the Big Three and drawls more monsters to her.

⸻ Betsabé Paz : 7/10. Definitely not when Estelle was really young – her curse and low empathy would make a baby to toddler hard to deal with – but I think she could do a passible job when Estelle is a pre–teen. She's not letting Estelle go out on an adventure or whatever, but I could definitely see Betsabé training her in self defense or the like, giving her the feeling of being a demigod without any of the danger.

But yeah. 3/10 if Estelle is a baby, Betsabé is definitely giving that three year old a knife.

⸻ Oleander Hasapis : 6/10. Not bad in a pinch, but would definitely be bad at keeping Estelle out of trouble. Could 100% be talked into pranks, at least. Good news is she's powerful enough that, if monsters do show up, she can protect Estelle.

⸻ PB Christopherson : 4/10. Not because she's irresponsible, or because she doesn't like Estelle, but because she's rarely available and could be pulled away at any second (being a Hunter does that.) Also, while PB would be way more confident by the time Estelle comes around, her anxiety would still be off the charts.

⸻ Pat Gillespie : 3/10. TBH he's not close enough with the Jacksons for them to consider him. Plus, while I imagine he's a lot more responsible as an adult, I can see him letting Estelle get away with a lot of chaos. Estelle tries to run off and fight a monster, and Pat's just like. Welp. Kids, am I right?

⸻ Lucia Koppel : 1/10. Love her, god bless, but she very much has a "do what's funny now and deal with the consequences later" mentality. Leaving Estelle with her alone is basically asking for someone to end up in the hospital (Not Lucia, though, because of course she wouldn't suffer the consequences of her actions. That would be silly.

Get's one point because Estelle likes her as a babysitter. Lucia lets her do whatever she wants!

Anyway, for fun part over! Well, I mean, the rest is also fun, but it's more connected to the prompts lol. Sorry if this part is a little hectic, I am NOT coherent when I'm excited about things.

⸻ Alex Harrington and Abby Foster by saImondean : Put together because they're from the same book.

I haven't read Adventures in Babysitting or Just One Yesterday in a while, but I still remember these two! I love, love Abby's ambition and her relationship with Steve, and Alex is a tiny angsty anger issue baby, and I relate to that so much.

⸻ Ramona Hargreeves by saImondean : I've had Ramona for two chapters, but if anything happens to her I swear to god –

I love, love, love the concept of Before Ramona and After Ramona, and her relationship with Five, and all of the potential of her interacting with the other siblings. Serious, if you're looking for a good Hargreeves sibling fic, I'd go check it out. It's only the prologue and first chapter right now, but it looks SO good.

(Also, fun fact! This was the book that inspired me to write a Commission fic and make Newark. Without this he'd just be a half–baked idea in my head, so everyone who's interested in him give SaImondean a big thanks.

⸻ Sahil Arya by XxFaylinexX : He's been sent for TWO of my apply fics, and I still haven't gotten to really write him. Which sucks. He's such a fascinating character, with the kind of personal depth that deserves its own story. There's so much drama that can go into his story, so many good endings that could work.

But he's also fucking delusional freak, and I love that for him as well. All my favorite characters have this exact combo of intense depth potential and cringe meme potential.

⸻ Cersei Sówka by rhaenicents : She's not even an OC for my fic, but reading her form I still think she's such an interesting character. I've always been a big of seer characters in general, but Cersei is such an interesting take on it. Instead of the power making them less connected to the world, it almost seems to make them more connect? If that makes sense?

⸻ The cast of Runs in the Family : Not gonna tag everyone, but you know who you are!! They're all genuinely some of my favorite characters, and I've loved getting to work with them. I love all of the OCs I choose for my fics but, man, the Ainsworths have such a special place in my heart.

Actually, you know what? Even beyond the cast. I chose, there's a lot of unchosen OCs that I loved as well. IDK. I know this sounds so cheesy, but I still adore the turn out I got for this fic, and the interacts from writing it.

⸻ Aisling by ceaseless-watchr :  Their appearance is *chiefs kiss* but also, while only the prologue is up, I'm just having a lot of fun imagining Aisling's interactions with all the other character (OK mostly M.T., I mostly mean M.T. I have definitely been projecting an annoying younger sibling/responsible older sibling vibe onto them, and I adore it.

⸻ Judy King by blythering : To be honest, I could probably put most of the OCs for Revenge, I love those guys. But Judy's attitude is 10/10, and has some of my favorite interactions with my OCs (hey, I admit my bias, lmao), so she gets a special mention.

Actually, shout out to the Revenge cast. I tried drawing them for this week, but it was not going well. I'll probably go back to it later, because I really do want to figure how how I'd draw them, but I think that's going to take more than a very rushed half–week (because I only decided to do it halfway through; I really should have known this wasn't going to work.

⸻ Twelve by motherguts : I don't want to write his real name, because that's a spoiler and you need to go check out Twilight if you're looking for a good Stranger Things fic. It's very AU, but it's really well written and Vee's such an interesting character (Both personality–wise and concept–wise.

⸻ Mingxia Kir–Feng by blythering : To be honest, I love all of the Playing Monster cast, but Mingxia gets a special shout out because she's just. So amazing. I think I especially love her because I'm still super nostalgic for the Post Tenebras version of her and Konstantin. Like I love their dynamic in Playing Monster, too, but the drama there was just fascinating

⸻ Cecelia Olivier by cheerybIossoms : I do not read Marvel fan fiction. I've watched the movies for years now, and I've even half–baked some OCs, but I just can't get into the fics. But Cecelia is such an interesting character, and her struggles so well written.

⸻ Nadine Vidal by cheeryblossoms : Ignis Fatuus is probably one of my favorite TUA fics ever, and Nadine is a large part of it. I love her whole dynamic as the (failed) savior of the world, and the genius way that her past is weaved into the plot. It's the kind of thing that isn't obvious until you get to the end.

⸻ Ferris Hargreeves by thnkspwte : OK, I know I'm stretching with an OC from a form in an apply fic, but listen. Listen. Her super power was that she randomly gets a new power every day. Her personality is...well, what you'd expect from that power. FASCINATING character concept, so much possible growth and plot. Did she get chosen? No. But she's definitely wedged in my brain forever.
