OCtober 2024 (Part 3)
Third part! Crazy how fast this has gone. Hopefully you guys know how this works by now, but I'll still include the prompt list.
Reminder that next week is Community Week! I have a couple ideas already, but if any of that looks fun to you guys, let me know. :)
13) Memes
This will probably be mainly text post memes & incorrect quotes, because I have neither the time nor energy nor understanding of the cultural zeitgeist to make a lot of image memes. Let's start!
Maekar at literally the entire Green council TBH, but especially Otto. Why is this twenty–something nepo–hire (Aegon didn't put him on the small council because he's good, he did it because he's trying to buy Maekar's love with power lmao) having to tell his hand–to–three–kings, long time politician grandfather that undermining the king that you built your entire claim around is bad actually?
Not my OC, but I saw this and instantly thought of Grace Hargreeves. Viktor alone was killing nannies left and right – that's why Grace is their mom in the first place – but you know all those kids had her struggling.
Aerra when her mom tells her to stop burning ants and focus on her lessons. Aerra, this is why you aren't heir. 😭
Newark definitely tried to pull this on the Handler (and got reminded that he's not getting a birthday party anyway.) It also gives Marty Doyle energy, probably with more success.
Aves, especially since they canonically think where your name is in alphabetical order means something.
This is what I imagine every time I think about Daydream by @ceaseless-watchr. It's not my story, but I have characters in it (and also it's too funny not to mention) so you'll have to just accept it.
I have one for Revenge – by the same author – as well, but, as funny as it is, it's also spoiler.
Anyway, I'm running out of picture space, so now we're doing incorrect quote generators.
Kith & Kin
Aegon: Alright Daenys, what do you want?
Daenys: I want your mother to disown you and adopt me!
Gael, about Team Black: If you think I play favorites, you're wrong. I love all my family equally.
Gael, later: I don't care for Daemon.
Maekar: My expectations are low, but they can always go lower.
Fiora: I'm Fiora. I'm an accountant.
Leif: I'm Leif. I have a knife.
Alicent: You're a lying piece of shit!
Rhaenyra: Oh yeah? You're the idiot that thinks you can get away with everything you do, WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!
Alicent: I'm leaving and I'm taking Daenys with me!
Gael, gathering cards: Aaaaand that's enough Monopoly for today.
(Alicent got Daenys in the Rhaenicent divorce lmao)
Aegon: Maekar's amazing at concentrating. Once they start reading, the only way they'll notice you is if you take their book away. Not even if you hit them or shake them!
Aemond: That was them ignoring you.
(Aegon and his endless delusion that Maekar likes him.)
Gael: I have yet to encounter a problem where a sword didn't factor into the solution at least in some way.
Aelyx, with Bilberry: Caw caw, motherfuckers.
Merlon: I just had a long talk with Mary and Lyle about hitting and now they are yelling "it's my turn to perpetuate the cycle of violence" before hitting each other.
Ryland: I hate to disagree with you, but-
Rhaenyra: Please, you love to disagree with me. Its your favorite thing to do.
Urban Legends
Ruben: Wanna hear some dark humor.
Ziggy: Yeah, I love dark humor.
Ruben: Alright.
Ruben: *Turns off the lights*
Ruben: Knock knock.
Ziggy: Turn the damn lights back on.
Ruben: Have I ever told you that I love you with my whole heart?
Ziggy: For the love of all that is holy, I am not taking you to McDonalds. It's 2am!
Ruben: Mean.
Jude: Hey, are you free?
Marney: No, I'm expensive.
Bec: Marney... Why did you draw a pentagram on the floor?
Marney: Your text told me to satanize the house before you returned.
Bec:
Bec: I wrote sanitize, Marney.
Eventide
Ezekiel: Hi, I'm Klaus's emergency contact.
Counter Woman: You're here to pick them up?
Ezekiel: I'm here to remove myself as their emergency contact.
(Mostly a joke because it fit them, but post–season 1 Klaus WOULD put Ezekiel as his emergency contact, thinking that being Ciana's friend would make him more likely to help. He is wrong.)
Sparrow!Ben: Who's in charge here?
Ciana, shrugging: Usually whoever yells the loudest.
Diego: I am a ninja.
Jess: No, you're not.
Diego: Did you see me do that?
Jess: Do what?
Diego: Exactly.
Luther, reading a recipe: Beat three eggs?
Jess: It means like in hand-to-hand combat.
Luther: Ohhhh-
Diego: Both of you get out of this kitchen.
(When Luther, Jess, and Diego get together, all their brain cells combine into one and only one of them is allowed to be smart. Mama Grace made sure Diego could cook, so he gets to have it in this case.)
Wild Geese
Enola: You spent all our money on THIS??
Aves, putting tiny raincoats on ducklings: They live outside. They need this.
Enola: Aves is forbidden from monologuing.
(Though it could probably go the other way around. They're both prone to monologuing, and both think they don't.)
Sem'ya
Minke: Sometimes, I don't realize an event was traumatic until I tell it as a funny story and notice everyone is staring at me weird.
(In his defense, he realized his traumatic backstory was traumatic before telling other people about it. But he was definitely convinced it was normal for a while.)
Nonna: I ran into Ebbe in the kitchen at 1 AM last night and when I asked him what he were doing, he just shrugged, said "these are my roaming hours," and wandered off, strumming vaguely on his guitar.
Playing Monster
Maja: I scare people a lot because I walk very softly and they don't hear me enter rooms. So when they turn around, I'm just kind of there and their fear fuels me.
Enemy: If you had to choose between Konstantin and all the money I have in my wallet, which would you choose?
Mingxia: That depends, how much money are we talking about?
Konstantin: Mingxia!
Enemy: 63 cents.
Mingxia: ...I'll take the money.
Konstantin: MINGXIA!!!
(She's not actually going to sell him, but she's also definitely going to make him think she will. For enrichment.)
Unspecific
Newark: Did you know spiders can hold 8 guns at once?
Klaus: How does it WALK??
Newark:
Newark: Did you know spiders can hold 7 guns at once?
(Clown to clown communication. Good for them.)
Newark: You know what I've realized?
Five: Some thoughts are better left unsaid?
Newark: Nice try, anyways –
(Chapter 3, basically.)
Aerra: I wish I could control wasps and bees to sting my enemies.
Rhaenyra: You're too young to have enemies.
Aerra: You don't even know.
Cop: You ran a red light.
Newark: So did you, hypocrite.
Cop: I was following you.
Newark: That was dumb, I'm a terrible driver.
Cop: Get out.
Aerra: People tell me I have a unique way of lighting up a room.
Jace: It's called arson and those people are called witnesses.
Silas: Mother likes to say "you can be part of the problem or part of the solution," but I happen to believe you can be both.
14) Who/What Inspired Your OC?
Not going to lie, I wish I could give a list of characters that inspired each of my OCs. That sounds fun, and I'm quite sure they had a lot of inspirations, but it's more of a subconscious thing so I didn't keep track of it. If you there are characters that remind you of my OCs – or my OCs remind you of, that's probably the better way to say it – let me know. :)
But what I know tends to inspire me is other fan fictions. As I read fics, I start to think of ideas that I'd like to see. And when I don't find what I want (for obvious reasons, the only person who can write exactly what you want is you) I'm like. Fine. I'm going to write it myself.
And, once I start with that initial idea, I keep thinking more and more, and in the process more and more ideas come up. Sometimes it's to fill in places in my OC's story. Sometimes it's like "Oh, here's this idea that hasn't been covered, let's think of some other ideas." (OK "not been covered" isn't true; I've found a lot of OCs similar to mine after making them, but unfortunately most of them haven't been in the from of fics.)
If you want specific inspirations, I can give them by story :)
⸻ The Firestarter Series : Ironically, despite the name and ending up pretty similar, the inspiration didn't actually start with Stephen King's Firestarter.
I was trying to think of a power that would be useful against the Upside Down, and this was between season 2 and 3, so fire was my first thought. But I didn't want to do fully pyrokinesis – it just didn't give the Stranger Things vibe to me – so I went with heat–based thermokinesis (I also think Anne could lower temperatures as well, but it was never necessary, so in canon it's currently just a theory.)
Campbell came about in a sort of convoluted way. You know the flashback scene in season one, when Brenner has El spy on someone reading off random cards and told her to repeat them, and she played it over the radio instead? The guy was referred to as a "test subject," and at the time I was annoyed by that because it was obviously just another scientists, not a test subject.
But then I was like. Wait. Why wouldn't they have older test subjects work with the younger ones? Obviously with oversight (don't want them getting ideas!) but 1) the younger test subject might trust the older one more as "one of them" and 2) it would be safer for the scientists. Which brought me the idea of a test subject, at least initially, working with the lab.
His powers were just a "yeah, telepathy works" moment. That was an example of a story growing on its own as I write, which I love.
⸻ From Russia, With Love : I wanted to make. Russian OCs. For a Stranger Things fic. I know that's super overwhelming, especially with the whole explanation for Firestarter, but it really was just me going "Wow, this story has a lot of themes of the Cold War. I love the Cold War! I should take advantage of that."
⸻ The Eventide Series : I LOVE HARGREEVES OCS!!! I don't care if it's cliche, you'll have to pry Hargreeves OCs from my cold, dead hands. I love the family aspect, I love the potential drama, I love the internal struggles, I love the super powers – I just love all of it!
Ezekiel and Jess exist because I wanted some more OCs; it wasn't until later that I would start writing single OC fics. It allowed Ciana to have relationships out side of her siblings. Plus, I had a lot of ideas for powers, which obviously I couldn't fit all in one character. I don't even really know which of the three powers I would have chosen if I only used a single OC.
⸻ Wild Geese : Enola Holmes made the Holmeses waaaaay too normal in my opinion. Like I expected Mycroft to be done dirty because...well, he always is...but Enola and their mother were just feminists and even Sherlock, though they tried (and failed, imo) to make him weirder in Enola Holmes 2, was just kinda aloof.
So, I ended up creating Aves in an attempt to return the original Holmes vibes (though I think I mostly just made them autistic, lmao. Just like me fr.)
⸻ Urban Legends : One of the things I really liked about the Fear Street books was the timeline/generational aspect. I thought it was a perfect chance to focus the story on a single family throughout the years.
I was also inspired by a Tumblr post I saw (I wish I could find it, but it's probably long buried by now) that talked about the original poster's head canon. Basically they thought it would be interesting if Sarah did have some kind of ability, and she had basically cursed the Goode's curse, allowing the victims to possibly find the truth. While the Sarah aspect isn't gone into much, but this did end up forming a large part of Urban Legends's concept.
⸻ The Attie Jackson Series : I got back into Percy Jackson and wanted to write a fic. Since this was already a throw back to my early days in fandom, I decided to make a Percy's twin sister OC.
It's the kind of thing that would have gotten me bullied because it was "too cringe," that got made fun of in How To books. I used to be so scared of sharing my OCs and writing my ideas because of that kind of stuff. And, now that I'm an adult, there's something so satisfying about not caring. About doing something fun, not despite being "cringe" but because of it, and not being scared what people will think.
With Attie herself, I was inspired by the idea that either of the twins could be the center of the prophecy. And that, on the flip side, either of them could be watching their sibling bear the weight of the world on their shoulders. It's the DRAMA of it all!!
⸻ Kith & Kin : AKA, like, sixty tropes in a trench coat. Unlike with my other books, a lot of the ideas I wrote did have stories. Some of them were even good. But I am so picky about House of the Dragon fics, because many of them are super biased. Hell, I've had to stop reading multiple very interesting and well written fics because they were just treating Alicent like shit (Because apparently every character can be treated sympathetically, including literal rapists and abusers, but the author MUST talk about how pathetic and stupid and bitchy and evil they think Alicent is. :/)
Which was what inspired me to write Kith & Kin. I wanted to see these kinds of characters – and this story, to be honest, because even canon is incredibly biased – from a neutral point of view. To full explore the perspectives of Team Black, Team Green, and all those people caught between them.
⸻ Not book specific, but a lot of the ideas for my original book (IE: Runs in the Family, Don't Play With Dead Things, and One Swallow) come from dreams. Not the whole plot – I mean, I've had dreams that I could probably use for a whole plot, but I haven't used them yet – but bits and pieces.
Yes, I do have weird dreams. Thanks for noticing.
15) Music
To be honest, I don't connect music to my OCs, except when it's required for apply fic. I think it's because I'm picky about songs, lmao. I know it should be as simple as "does this song remind you of the OC?" but my brain still interprets it as "I can only really associate a song with OC if it doesn't fit exactly."
But I'll try!
Starting off, the easy one. The Maywood playlist; literally, it is labeled "Maywood" in my phone. TBH I don't remember why I added all of these songs, but I do know this was the playlist that I used when I wrote Runs in the Family and while writing Don't Play with Dead Things:
Just a warning, it's a lot of San Fermin. I put them all in one line because it was taking up a lot of space. Do please check out the band, though, it's a great band.
⸻ Emily; Jackrabbit, Cerulean Gardens; Parasites; Billy Bibbit; Reckoning; Woman in Red; In This House; Ladies Mary; The Woods (San Fermin)
⸻ Ship of Fools (Robert Plant)
⸻ Smith Hill (Deer Tick)
⸻ Blaze of Glory (Spottiswoode)
⸻ The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie (Colter Wall)
⸻ Devils Price; Good People; Friends With the Enemy (Poor Man's Poison)
⸻ Piano Man (Billy Joel)
⸻ Tin Man (America)
⸻ Push Off (The Palms)
⸻ (Don't Fear) The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
⸻ Rainbow Man (Looking Glass)
⸻ The Killing Moon (Echo & The Bunnymen)
⸻ The Man Who Sold The World (Nirvana)
⸻ Sympathy For The Devil (The Rolling Stones)
Do with that what you will. To be honest, I still think these are all good songs.
Anyway, some less connected ones.
⸻ I recently got the Paris Paloma album, and Knitting Song reminds me of Ciana and Grace. Really all of the Umbrella Academy and Grace, but especially Ciana and Diego.
Continuing from the Cacophony album, I've already mentioned that Boys, Bugs and Men always reminds me (derogatory) of Sir Ribeiro Miranda, one of my apply fic OCs. Though now it's half that and half imagining Aerra eating one of Helaena's bugs. Because she would do that.
I'm currently using Hunter to inspire a dragonseed OC. Escape Pod kind of reminds me of Daenys Waters, but TBH Rhaena claimed that song in my mind. So I guess I'll have to find something else for Daenys.
⸻ Actually, going off that, I'm trying to make some OCs for another HOTD universe. Currently it's Aerra, Vaelle, the above mentioned Hunter dragonseed, and an Alicent's daughter OC I'm planning to name Alerie after her mother.
I considered including Silas and his mother as well, because IDK. His mother fits really well, and to be honest she has Alicent as a love interest and I want to write that really bad. But Silas – with Aerra and Alerie already being there – would make the kid drama really crowded.
I might leave Silas in his own world, and instead bring in my Saera Bastard OC. He has some children and, while I imagine them being in Lys during the Dance, I can 100% justify one of them staying behind.
Anyway, back to the plot, because this has nothing to do with music.
⸻ It was for an apply fic, putting Tardigrade Song and Does the Swallow Dream of Flying by Cosmo Sheldrake on Islay's playlist is probably my proudest choice.
⸻ And that's it. <3
Okay, not really, but I've literally spent a week trying to think of more examples, and they are not coming. We are moving on.
16) Draw, Write, or Type With Your Eyes Closed, or Use Your Non–Dominant Hand
I drew some wizards!
Left was drawn my right hand (I'm left handed, fun fact!) and the right was drawn with my eyes closed, except for picking the colors (drawing them in was also with my eyes closed, obviously, but I opened my eyes to get the colors because otherwise I wouldn't be able to.)
Also just the line art, because I think the color hides some of the funnier points. The Non–Dominant Hand one looks better, but the Eyes Closed one is definitely my favorite. I forgot to draw one of the ears, so it looks like a little mug man lmao.
17) DnD Alignment Chart
For an extra challenge, I decided to not use my Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves OCs.
⸻ Lawful Good : Gage Loomis (Firestarter Series.) Though by season 4 he was definitely moving toward Neutral Good.
⸻ Neutral Good : Nonna Ostrovsky (Sem'ya.) *Gently hold* My baby is just trying to do her best, you guys.
⸻ Chaotic Good : Newark. Minor spoiler alert, but the trigger for him breaking with the Commission was literally getting in trouble for making someone's life better because it changed the timeline. The main themes of his book are (as I'm planning it now) literally things like "Maybe the world is meant to change" and "No one is born to suffer; systems that require people to suffer to function are inherently broken."
Yes, this is me having beef with the season 4 ending. Was it obvious?
⸻ Lawful Neutral : Konstantin Kovelchuk (Playing Monster.) This was a hard one, since I don't tend to write characters that lean to "lawful" more than anything else, but Konstantin definitely fits. At least at the beginning of Playing Monster – and definitely his Post Tenenbras version.
⸻ True Neutral : Leif (Kith & Kin.) Sweet guy, really, but he brings a "I'm just happy to be here :)" vibe to the violent coup and following civil war that no one else seems to get.
⸻ Chaotic Neutral : Serafima Ostrovsky (Sem'ya.) Her moral compass is whatever doesn't get her killed right now, god bless.
⸻ Lawful Evil : Maekar Targaryen (Kith & Kin.) His claim to fame is turning King's Landing into a propaganda poisoned, police state run hell scape. And no one even noticed because he gaslight gatekeeper girl bossed them all into loving him and hating his sister.
⸻ Neutral Evil : Emmett Müller (Eventide Series.) Can you tell I was desperate for this slot? Literally pulling out one season minor characters, RIP. 😭 "Evil" feels like a stretch when comparing Emmett to the other two, but TBH he is a terrible person, and in a way that's so realistic it's creepy.
⸻ Chaotic Evil : Edrys Snow. The night Aegon the Unworthy died, Edrys had a dream of her father telling her to continue his legacy of ruining everyone's fucking lives. And who can say no to dear, old papa?
18) Swap
I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS FOR THIS!! I make so many AUs and alternative timelines for each of my stories. I don't think I have time to write all of them, but I'm certainly going to try.
Kith & Kin Gender Swap AU :
Gender is an incredibly important part of House of the Dragon, and in turn Kith & Kin. Because of that, it can be really interesting to imagine how the characters would have grown up if that had changed. I actually have two versions of this: one where OCs and canon characters were swapped, and one where it's only OCs. Because it's less character work, and less likely to upset people if they disagree, I'll focus on OC only (unless that changes things.)
Also, quick clarification, I do know this is technically a sex swap, not a gender swap, and those are different things, but "gender swap" is what people know. Also, I don't intend to do every character, just the main ones that I think would have a big change.
⸻ Gael Targaryen : OK I know I said I'd focus on the OC only version, but this one does depend on if Rhaenyra is male or not. Because obviously, Male!Gael would be much happier. Even beyond the "growing up in a misogynistic society" thing, Gael has a lot of quirks, interests, and physical features that get her judged as a woman but would be accepted as a man.
But if Rhaenyra is still female, then Gael's the heir, I can definitely see that going badly quickly. While not the worst, because she's willing to listen to people who know better, Gael hates politics. I could easily see it turning it into a Robert Baratheon situation where Male!Gael ends up just dumping all the ruling onto the council.
If Rhaenyra is male and the heir? That's great! Already in canon they're close, and Gael dodged the Second Son Syndrome by being much happier as a supporter.
⸻ Daenys Waters : Male!Daenys is getting called a bastard sooner, no doubt. The only reason people even considered that Daenys wasn't a bastard was because there was some plausible deniability (she was mixed, and the "it's Baratheon heritage!" worked when her hair was actually black and not brown) and it could be used against Jace and Luke, who were assumed to be the real heirs. If people Daenys was their mother's obvious heir, people would be way, way more critical.
Also, I've had a mostly–joking–not–canon head canon that Daenys's name was chosen not because of Daenys the Dreamer but because it sounded like Daemon without just being...IDK, Daemys? Daemyra? (I hate Targcest as much as any incest, but they do get one win of funny ship names. They literally just sound like new Valyrian names.) But Male!Daenys would probably just be name Daemon.
Which makes me so glad Daenys is a woman. I already hate repeating names, and I especially don't want to honor Daemon.
⸻ Maekar Targaryen : Imagining a female Maekar is especially interesting for me because I am planning a female Alicent's child OC. And while I don't expect them to be the exact same person as him, this mental exercise has still gone over very similar ground.
For Maekar himself, I think he would be...happier is a stretch, in a world like Westeros that's pretty much impossible...but, like with Gael, Female!Maekar's stills and personality would be more accepted. Or at the very least less judged. Physical strength isn't expected from women and, despite what HOTD attempts to claim, Westeros has places for politically competent women.
⸻ Aelyx, Mary, and Lyle Smallwood : TBH I don't think their personalities would change, since Gael and Merlon raised the triplets pretty easily.
I mainly included this because I know for a fact that – had they been two girls and a boy, instead of two boys and a girl – Viserys would have been 100% more determined to harass their parents into naming the triplets after the Conquerers. Like there's already three of them, "three heads of the dragon" and all, and now it's the same genders? He'd be losing his shit!
And, like, the triplets do have some parallels to the Conquerers. Aelyx is a dreamer, Mary has political and people skills, and Lyle is eventually knighted. But Viserys's reasoning is entirely surface level and built on his obsession with prophecy, so he'd probably be like "first baby is Visenya, second baby is Aegon, and last baby is Rhaenys, as all things should be 😌" and call it a day.
The Umbrella Academy Role Swap AU :
This isn't so much a clear AU as a "what if my OCs were in a different situation." In this case, it's wondering if my Hargreeves OCs weren't adopted, and the ones that weren't adopted were.
⸻ Ciana Hargreeves : "What if Hargreeves OCs weren't adopted?" was harder than "What if OCs that didn't get adopted were?", because I haven't really thought about their OG families. This was a problem I ran into with Ciana, and will be a problem with I talk about Mesi.
With Ciana, I don't think there would be much of a change. The biggest one I see is that she would be significantly less passive. In canon, Reginald's abuse made her feel like the only way to gain love was to submit and appeal to everyone. In this AU, Ciana not only wouldn't have that abuse, but she wouldn't even have siblings she would have to grow up with.
I don't think Ciana would lean too much into her powers. Without Reginald putting a lot of importance on it, her only thoughts towards them would just be avoiding destroying things.
⸻ Mesi Hargreeves : Again, not having to deal with Reginald causes Mesi to move a little closer to normal. Though her case it's the opposite. Where Ciana responded to their father by trying harder, Mesi rebelled by slacking off.
She'd probably still be a bit lazy, and a bit of a trouble maker. But without an abusive father and the ability to develop into a normal adult, it's probably less a rebellion and more just...her personality. I imagine Normal!Mesi works at an arcade, using her powers for stuff like getting kids extra tickets and getting away from annoying people.
⸻ Ezekiel and Jess Botterill : Put together, because there's not really a world where only one of them ends up with Reginald. They may be cousins, but Susan was the one who chose to keep the two of them, and so she would be the one to choose to tell sell both of them. Ironically, I do see them going in opposite ways.
In Dayspring, when given a version of Ezekiel, Reginald locks him away and strictly controls his powers. If Ezekiel was put in the Umbrella Academy, I doubt Reginald would do anything differently. In fact he'd probably double down on the control; Ezekiel's powers are beneficial to Reginald, but could also be turned against him if Ezekiel learned too much.
On the flip side, Jess's shield abilities would lead to Reginald being increasingly reckless with her. Jess is already a protective person, but there would be an extra emphasize on her putting herself in danger to save the others. Where Ezekiel is protected and controlled because his powers don't work in a fight, Jess would be pushed further into battle with the threat of her siblings being harmed if she doesn't.
⸻ Abilio and Ines Coutinho Verde : Again, combined because their answers are kind of connected.
With Ines, it's up in the air on if she would be adopted. Reginald wouldn't want her, because she's normal, but would he know that? And if he did, would he take her anyway, just incase she was important for whatever powers Abilio might have? Of course, following that logic, neither of them would be adopted because Reginald would assume they were both normal (their mother was already pregnant with Ines, so Abilio's birth wouldn't look special, and his powers don't appear right away.)
So, let's just assume Reginald does adopt Ines. She'd probably end up in a similar place to Viktor, dismissed because of her lack of powers. Though it wouldn't be as bad, because they have each other (Also, I suspect Viktor's "failed" powers was part of the way Reginald isolated him so much, since Reginald couldn't risk the others finding out. So Ines doesn't have that issue, either.)
With Abilio, I think it would take Reginald awhile to figure out how his powers work. They're both hyper specific and vague. While Abilio uses his powers mostly to develop hobbies, but I could see Reginald finding a way to turn it towards combat. I imagine it's something similar to Taskmaster, having him mimic the enemies' fighting styles.
⸻ Newark : Decided to do Newark in the Umbrella Academy, because Normal!Newark is...uh...a spoiler thing.
You know how I said Reginald would be reckless with Jess? That would be doubly so with Newark, since he's able to heal himself from pretty much anything that doesn't kill him instantly. Actually, this might be the case for all of the Academy – if Newark can just heal them, then Reginald doesn't have to be as careful with them, does he? (Even if he was already pretty reckless having children fighting adults.)
Because of this, Newark would probably get a lot of grief for the Academy's failings. Ben dying? Should have healed him. Luther's injury and transformation? Well, none of that would have happened if Newark hadn't left.
And he definitely would leave. Like with the Commission, Newark would stick around for a while, but eventually begin to chafe under being controlled. Like, why do they have to save the day? If Reginald Hargreeves cares so much about the world, why is the only way he's trying to save it be sending children out to stop crime?
19) Palette Challenge
From the upper right and then clock–wise; Palette 3, Palette 2, Palette 4, and Palette 1. I originally wanted to do them in order. But then I added the part of wanting to make the characters based off the seasons, and I felt Palette 3 fit summer and Palette 1 spring.
I mean, I had wanted to make seasonal characters for a while, but never got the chance. IDK if I'll keep the designs, but it's just a quick fun design.
And I did have a lot of fun with this. I was originally was going to just make the design and use flat colors, like I've done with the last few drawings. But I was loving how it was turning out, so I decided to go all in.
