Thirty: Deal Maker and Breaker

My Manager is a nice Australian girl named Kiara Wolf. She has light brown wavy hair and pretty grey-blue eyes.

In front of me are twenty-two contracts. Some were for products, some were campaigns, some where adverts.

"You don't have to sign all of them. I understand you'll be a resident at Luna Hospital soon; as your manager, I suggest signing for eighteen. Most of them are set in Gotham, some can travel to Luna, others are overseas or across the country. I think you should pick four you don't want."

My eyes skim over the titles of the contracts. Who they are, what I'd be modelling, where they'll be.

Then I find something I would never do.

"This one," I say, trying not to shudder. I push the contract forward. With it, I picture in my mind some embarrassing Batman or Flash bra.

"Blue Mount's Justice League Lingerie Line. Not your thing?" Kiara questions, slipping it back into the folder. I shake my head 'no' vigourously.

I glance to my right, to see Dick covering his mouth, visibly shaking with silent laughter. What an ass.

"What else?" Kiara asks.

"This is a nude shoot?" I ask, pointing at some anti-fur campaign.

"Uh...yes."

"Then not that one," I smile slightly, pushing it towards her.

"Any you don't want me to do?" I ask Dick, who looks thirty seconds from dozing off. You and me both, man.

"It doesn't matter what I want," he says, taking my hand and smiling at me. I smile back. How did I end up with someone so endearing? "It's what you want. Or rather, what you don't want."

I nod, before looking back at Kiara. She's smiling at the interaction.

It takes me two minutes to take out another two contracts. I choose to remove the Corbella Corsets deal and a television ad for tanning oil.

Kiara tells me what to fill out, where to sign and where to initial. My hand is about to die as I sign the last line on the last contract.

"Great! Every week I'll send you through your schedule for the week. Are there any days you're unavailable?"

"Uh...no, but that might change after I start at the hospital."

"Just let me know. I'm so excited to be your manager!" She grins excitedly. I decide I like her.

"Me too," I smile as much as I can, having to bite my tongue to stay away. Kiara hugs me and says goodbye, leaving the house.

"Thank you," I yawn, ask Dick wraps an arm around my shoulders. I comply and wrap both of mine around his waist.

"Let's sleep until tomorrow morning."

"Agreed," I reply as we reach the top of the stairs tiredly.

"You can't," Daphne's voice suddenly says. We both turn around to see her walking from her room to us. "My concert is tonight, remember?"

"I thought that was next week!"

"No, next week is the competition where we expect the performer to hit. Tonight is specific to Gotham Academy only. The whole Team is going. You said you'd go!"

She continues to yell at us. I'm so tired her words drown out, my mind to exhausted to deal.

When we finally make it into bed, I regretfully set an alarm for a couple hours later to wake us up for the concert.

"Do you still have the present for her?" Dick asks me.

"Yes. I'll give it to her before the show," I answer with a yawn.

I happily curl up in his arms and fall asleep.

A few hours later the alarm starts ringing. Dick reaches under my pillow, grabs my phone and turns it off. I hear it thump when it hits the floor.

"We should get up," I say.

"No we shouldn't."

"Yeah. No."

He pulls me towards him, seeing as his arm was underneath my waist. I comply and turn towards him, burying my face into his neck.

As he rests his cheek atop of mine, I feel the bottom of the bed move. Can't be either of us because out legs are tangled. So...

"Bombs away!" I hear Daphne's voice yells. She ditches three large objects at us. I squeal when those objects move and pull back to see Wipeout, Sunshine and Daphne's dog Venom on top of us.

"Ugh, Wipeout no!" I turn to see Dick holding Wipeout's face at bay as the dog tries to lick his face.

"My concert is in three hours. You have to get up," Daph says urgently as all but Venom run off.

"Three hours. That's two more of sleeping and an hour to get ready and go," I say, laying back on the pillows.

"I'm not leaving."

"You're just excited and being irrational. Alfred will take you. We'll be in the audience."

"I'm not leaving until you get up!"

I stare at her, seeing that she is completely serious. "Nothing will make you leave?" Dick asks her, rubbing his face.

"No."

Wanna bet? I reach over and turn Dick's face to mine, leaning over and kissing him. He complies, smiling and pulling me from my side of the bed to his.

"Gross! Don't!" Daphne protests.

"You might want to leave," I tell her when I draw back, only to move down to his neck, climbing on top of him. He holds my waist.

"You won't," she says carefully. I glance back at her.

"We will."

I kiss his neck, pulling my hair out of the way. "This won't be G-Rated Daph..." Dick says, making me laugh. Just go Daphne.

Just as I start pushing his shirt up, she jumps off the bed with Venom in her arms. "My poor young eyes!" She squeals, running out.

Ha, she's trying to act like she hasn't done this before.

We both laugh, but I still tug his shirt up.

"We're not stopping, are we?" He asks, sitting up and helping me. He leans forward and kisses my collar bone.

"Nope," I grin, sliding my hand through his hair and kissing him again.

As predicted, it did not take long for us to get ready and be on our way to the concert. I drove my Jag with Tim in the front seat.

Dick was ahead in his own car. We have to swing by the zeta-tubes to pick the team up. In an empty alleyway is a fake photo booth that serves as the tube. We pull up. M'gann's voice comes into my head.

'It's all clear.'

'Alright. Three in my car, four in Nightwing's.'

M'ann, Artemis and Garr climb into the back of my car. In front of us, Conner hops in the passenger seat of the blue Jag whilst Alice and Lily hop in the back.

"The others?" Artemis asks.

"Mal and Karen are going with Barbra. Jaime and Bart are getting there on their own. Cassie, Misty, Virgil and Hazel are going to Friday night's show," I say.

"Not tomorrow's?" Tim asks. He says it strangely, glancing over his shoulder at the others. We stop at the lights so I turn to look at them all.

Each person holds a seedy smile. "What?..." I ask carefully.

"Nothing!" They chime together.

Yes, tomorrow is mine and Dick's anniversary of our first date. What's that got to do with this?

"Thursday's show was cancelled," I say as we drive off again. Lily turns in her seat in front of us and waves. The others wave back.

We pull up to the prestigious Gotham Academy. It sparkles brightly with fairy lights and promotions of the show.

Once the cars are parked, the nine of us climb out to find Mal, Karen and Barbra.

"I hate coming back here," Barbra says, folding her arms over her jacket. Who doesn't hate going back to their old high school?

"I wanted to see Daph before the show," Lily says. I remember the gift I have for her.

"Yes, me too," I say, opening the boot of the Jag to take Daphne's present out.

Jaime and Bart show up just before Lily and I leave, to circle around to the back of the theatre. The door is open to a hallway filled with stressing performers.

I take Lily's hand and step into the room. It smells like hair spray and teenagers; both gross.

"There!" Lily says, spotting Daphne at the head of the room. Around her are her two hair and make-up stylists and her vocal coach. She has the biggest amount of space to get ready too.

Everyone has one small table and one chair. Either their mother or a sibling sat with them to do their makeup, most of their items on the floor.

I guess there are many perks to being Bruce Wayne's daughter.

"Hi!" Daph says excitedly when we appear in her mirror. She looks so pretty.

"Hey there," I grin. Lily greets her as well, before pulling out a gift from her bag.

"I got you something," she says, handing it to her.

"You didn't have to do that Lils," she smiles, taking it.

"Ghee. Looks like this isn't the first present you've received," I say, touching the massive bunch of multi-purple lilacs sitting on the table, taking up most of the space. Daphne smiles softly.

"They're from Jaime," she says quietly...lovingly.

Her present from Lily is a necklace with the initials DW on it. Daphne loves it immediately and puts it on.

Dick had a special skateboard made for her. Originally he had Daphne written on it, however I know she already has one like that.

So I went ahead and had the text changed to Jaiphne. It looks very sweet and she appears to love it.

When one of her classmates recognises me as Hana from XXO, Lily and I leave. We go back to the others who are still waiting to get in.

"There's choreography in them. Wouldn't be awkward if you had to watch your boyfriend dance with another girl?" Karen asks, looking at the poster.

"No. If you're in a relationship hey won't make you do a romantic song with someone else. The music teacher's pretty young. She has respect for that sort of thing," Tim explains. They go on talking.

"Pretty flowers," I say to Jaime quietly.

"Yeah," He replies, folding his arms and looking away.

He sounds conflicted.

"Y-You two are alright now, aren't you?" I question.

"Well yeah. I mean she- She deserves flowers, right? Her favourite colour and everything. But I still don't know what to do about this whole 'none of her friends know me' thing. You get what I mean?" He does his best to explain.

I nod, "Jaime, Daphne obviously loves you. Very much. You can't leave these things to rot. Talk with her. If you're unhappy...then I think you know what needs to happen."

I can't believe the words that are coming out of my mouth. Before either of us can say anything, the theatre opens and people flood in.

The Team's seats are together. Dick and I are with Conner, M'gann, Alice, Mal and Karen in one row. The others are behind us.

A boy with a clearly flamboyant personality bounces on stage. Our host for the night. He introduces the first three acts.

An a capella arrangement opens the show. It's funky and exciting and sets a good tone for the night.

Following them is a trio of girls doing a cover of a song. That drags the mood down, because they're not great. Not bad, but very low in talent.

The next two acts are by the same senior band which has a male and female singer. They're good, but they don't explore their range enough.

Finally, the reason we're here is on stage. Daphne walks out, dressed perfectly in a black dress. A backdrop of purple curtains appear as her song begins.

"Is it ...normal to be as nervous as she is?" Dick whispers. I smile and take his hand, noticing he is actually nervous.

Up there, on that stage is Daphne Wayne. I still remember eleven year old Daphne Stone, who was shy, reserved and afraid of her power.

She has transformed.

"Listen to the song here in my heart

A melody I start, but can't complete."

When she begins singing her Beyoncé classic, it's clear that Daphne has talent. Dick shuffles in his seat, hand tightening around mine. I smile.

"Listen to the sound from deep within

It's only beginning

To find release."

The song builds, as does her voice.

"Oh the time has come

For my dreams to be heard

They will not be pushed aside and turned

Into your own

All cause you won't

Listen."

As she continues, the notes go higher and higher, the song gets more intense and Daphne shines, hitting every note correctly.

At the end of the song, she receives a standing ovation. The entire crowd spend ages applauding her. She bows, before reaching up and doing something to the neck of her dress.

Immediately a different material falls down. She is now wearing a blue dress. A new song starts and more people join her on stage.

They begin a mashup matched with dancing to multiple songs. Daphne leads every time, alongside a girly looking boy with a too-tight shirt.

Eventually it comes to attention that he is following Daphne on stage, trying to make it some serenade. Daphne it seems, does not notice. Unless it's part of the show.

The upbeat songs have everyone on a high. At a point during the performance, the girly looking guy pulls her in for a dance. It seems Daphne has to comply.

By the end, he is holding her close... too close. I glance over my shoulder to see Jaime desperately trying to conceal the canons appearing on his hands.

When the curtains close, I hear the Team murmuring about the intent of the performance. Dick stays uncomfortably silent.

A sophomore band do a lovely rendition of Come On Eileen, followed by a cute solo artist boy who does Budapest with his guitar.

Daphne and two girls come on stage and perform No Scrubs by TLC which is definitely enjoyed. The third last performance is a group dance to a live brass instrumental.

Then.

I do not recognise the song, but it is a duet. When the host announces it, I recognise the guy. He's Ace, the one that Marnie accused Daph of secretly dating. He's the girly guy who is getting too close.

The song is sweet and slow. A song about love. Unfortunately they sound very nice together. Unfortunately the choreography has them holding hand, being close and saying some interesting things to each other.

Unfortunately, just at the end of a perfect power note by Daphne, signalling the end of the song, Ace pulls her forward and kisses her.

I glance over my shoulder to see Jaime pretty much halfway down the isle, walking out.

The curtains close as fast as they can. There is a distinct sound of crashes from behind the curtains, paired with some swearing.

Bart and Garr get up to chase Jaime. Somehow, I think that skateboard won't mean much now...
