Fourteen: Rain

Loved the comments on the last chapter xD Enjoy!

Karianna had no answers for me. No matter how much I asked, Midnight did not help either. Doctor Fate did not know what to do.

No one does. I have no way to get his memories back. I have to face the fact that maybe I never will.

For the whole day I have sat on the windowsill of my room, hugging Batpanda to my chest tightly. I have not spoken a word to anybody.

I'm not even crying. Not once has a single tear fallen. Maybe its shock, or perhaps just emptiness.

It was Bruce who tried first, in the morning. He tried to get me to talk to him, but I said nothing. He gave up after half an hour and left.

My next visitors were Daphne and Jaime, who told me about some upcoming mission to do with a villain named Performer.

I liked listening to them talk, but soon enough they were called away for a briefing.

Alfred came and went a few times with food, and though I drank some juice and nibbled on a croissant, he usually left with whatever he had come with before.

Alice and Artemis showed up around lunchtime, but they were, like everyone else, unable to get me to respond to them. What worried them most was that I had not shed a tear at all. It worried me too.

I watched the rain fall down outside by myself for a while. Every piece of future I had ever imagined with him seemed utterly impossible now.

There is nothing. I would rather apply for a one-hundred year mission in another sector than stay here with him not knowing completely what we once had.

Even those thoughts could not prompt me to cry. I continue to sit in on the window in black leggings and a white long-sleeved shirt, staring out at the yard.

I watch jealously as Misty and Tim run across the drenched grass holding hands. She, clearly wearing his jacket.

The stop and spin around. When she looks up at my window, sees, and gives a weak wave, I do not return it.

Kaldur, Hazel, Valentine, Karen and Mal come in next. Karen comes over behind me and begins plaiting my hair silently, whilst the other four sit down and start talking about the weather.

I barely even pay attention, but I suppose it's good they are trying. Over at the door, Zatana is leaning against that frame. I haven't the strength to even glance at her for more than a millisecond.

When Alfred brings in an afternoon snack of tea and angel cake, they leave. However Kaldur does managed to wedge the teacup in my hand, and seems satisfied before he leaves when I take a sip.

It nearly makes me cry when Sunshine and Wipeout bound in, both holding their leashes in their mouths. They sit down in front of the window, staring at me with their tails wagging.

I would walk Sunshine whilst Dick would stand beside me and walk Wipeout. Sunshine stayed in front of me, staring, whilst Wipeout began bounding around he room, looking all over the place.

"He's not here," I mouth, no sound coming out. When Wipeout runs into his wardrobe and grabs one of Dick's shoes and begins bringing it to me, I snap.

"He's gone! We'll never get him back!" I scream at the six year old violently. Sunshine begins whining in fear of me as Wipeout releases the shoe. The older dog walks over as I drop to the floor on my knees, finally coming to me senses as I begin to sob.

"We've lost him. I lost him. He's gone," I cry as he puts his head on my shoulder. Seconds later I feel a hand on my shoulder, and look up to stare into the blue eyes of Conner.

Behind him, M'gann is holding Sunshine in her arms. Conner manages to stand me up and sit me back down on my bed.

"It's alright Hana," he says quietly.

"No, it's not. I can't get his memories back. Don't you see? He may as well be dead!"

Conner looks at M'gann wearily. "We'll take the dogs for a walk, okay?" He says, standing and taking Wipeout's leash. They both send me concerned glances before leaving. "Get some sleep."

I crawl under the blankets and curl up into a ball, summoning the engagement ring. I spend about an hour staring at it, silent tears falling occasionally, thinking of everything that won't happen.

When I fall asleep I am hardly granted reprieve, because before I know it, I am back in my psyche; the sanctuary.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what to do," a voice says.

When I turn around, Midnight is there, looking at me emotionlessly.

"This is all your fault," I glare.

"It was the only way to send you to my brothers, to find out the latest on my father."

I ignore her and stare around the room again. At the end of the path, like before, stands an immobile Robin and Nightwing. I walk past Midnight to stand in front of them.

"Why am I here?" I finally ask, looking at the Robin version of the man I lost.

"The Mother wanted me to give you a message."

"Really?" I say, too devastated to be interested. "And what's that?"

My head begins spinning and my legs feel light. I must be waking up.

"Analyze you gifts," I hear Midnight say, before I sit shot-up in bed, coming face to face with Tim, Jaime and Bart, or rather, Robin, Blue Beetle and Kid Flash. They are dressed in their uniforms.

"Sorry! We...didn't mean to intrude. It's good you're awake. I'll go and tell Batman," Tim says. I frown in confusion as he runs off, and look to Blue for answers.

"You've been asleep for three days," he says. My eyes widen.

"Asleep for three days! Are you joking!?" I shriek.

"It was more like a coma," Alfred says when he enters. He places down a tray of food and begins removing different machine from my wrists.

"It must have been because I visited me psyche. Maybe it takes me out for a couple of days," I say, as Sunshine jumps up onto the bed.

Batman enters promptly not a moment later, and everyone leaves the room as Karianna and Doctor Fate enter.

"Did you find anything?" Siren asks, sitting at the end of the bed. Batman hands me an apple juice that I drink quickly.

"Could you bring me that whiteboard please?" I ask Karianna. She retrieve the small square which has a marker attached, and I list all of the gifts the mother gave me.

Knowledge.

Enlightenment.

Containment.

Words.

Pathways.

Guidance.

Present.

"The answer is there somewhere," Doctor Fate says after I list the gifts.

Maybe, just maybe, there is hope.
