Chapter xx: Nia and Akihiko 💍?

A/N: Hi guys, I am still editing this book and this chapter may or may not make it into the final cut. If it does, some things will be altered within the book from how you've all originally read it. This would take place literally right before Naruto, Nia, and Jiraiya would make it to the Leaf village.

If you know Spanish, there's a line or two that will be cool if y'all translated for our English only readers lol

Anyway, hope you enjoy reading! Please consider commenting and voting ❤️

Chapter xx: Nia and Akihiko 💍?

"Y-Yeah, goodnight," Nia told Naruto as the genin would soon fall asleep in the room they shared within an inn mere moments later.

Though her eyelids were heavy, the girl couldn't bring herself to drift off also. Her mind was on a certain prince — one that the sleeping genin some feet away from her didn't take too kindly of.

"You're just... so beautiful to me, Miss Nia," Akihiko's voice echoed through her mind like a broken record.

'Beautiful...' Her fingers lightly gripped her sheet as she gazed at the ceiling above. 'That's all he kept calling me... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...'

"Oh Sakura," She turned her head when Naruto started talking in his sleep. "That pretty face of yours just really makes my heart melt, ya know..."

Hearing this, Nia frowned.

He's always thinking and talking about Sakura... There'll never be any room for me in his heart...

Understanding this, the girl flipped over, with her back facing the blonde.

Had she made the wrong decision by leaving with him? Should she have just taken a chance and left with Akihiko instead?

She had been pondering about the situation for about a day or two after the prince had left to his village. Somehow, there was just no denying it — she wanted to see him again.

He made her feel attractive for the first time in her life. She felt desired and appreciated by him every time he was around. There was never a negative word about her that came out of his mouth nor showed in his actions. Getting him to pay attention to her was effortless — she didn't have to go far lengths just to get him to look at her. It was obvious to her he accepted her flaws inwardly, but especially outwardly.

However, she knew how aggressive Naruto would get if she and Akihiko would just make eye contact. She couldn't understand why he was so fiercely protective of her when he clearly felt no attraction for her. What was the point of stopping her from being with anyone when he had no interest in her?

Nia sat up on her futon and reached for her bookbag, taking out a piece of paper and ink brush.

This was it... she couldn't take it anymore. He was her friend and though he was, it just wasn't enough for her. She tried to just accept it as it was and continue being at his side as a friend, but her heart was aching... it was getting to be unbearable staying as just friends. Why should she settle for friendship when she wanted a stronger and more meaningful bond than that?

Akihiko would not only provide her friendship with himself and others if she were to go to his village, but also romantic love and hopefully even marriage and children if everything moved in the right direction.

All she had to do now was write to the blonde that she no longer wished to stay with him, but that if he was willing to continue being friends with her, that he could visit her anytime at the Hidden Steam village where Akihiko said he lived. Maybe writing to him was rather cowardly than to just tell him to his face, but Nia knew that if they were to talk, he would somehow be able to convince her to stay with him which she just couldn't allow herself to fall for.

False hope was always something she had to experience. She was tired of trying to win him over, she was tired of putting in so much effort when she felt attraction and love should happen naturally. At this point, getting Naruto to even look her way seemed very forced. Nia just couldn't handle the rejection any longer.

Her heart was starting to sway toward Akihiko instead.

"Psst," A whisper came from outside the window just as the kunoichi touched the paper with the tip of her ink brush. "Miss Nia... Miss Nia... psst."

Her heart jumped at the sound of the familiar voice.

'What? No way...' She quietly made her way to the opened window and viewed the outside.

However, everywhere she looked, she couldn't find the person that matched the voice until suddenly someone rose up and clasped her hand in theirs and when they did, the girl made a yelp before a hand gently covered over it to keep her quiet.

"My beautiful queen," Nia's eyes widened a bit after seeing Akihiko on the other side, speaking to her. "You're still awake, I'm overjoyed."

"Akihiko... What're you doing here? If Naruto wakes up and sees you, you're dead." The girl whispered. "I thought you were-"

"I just... I just couldn't leave you to him. You've been all I've thought about since I left you all with my summoning horses two days ago. And Miss Nia, there's so much sorrow in your eyes. That scoundrel doesn't make you feel good, does he?"

"Please don't call him a scoundrel. He's not evil at all."

"Miss Nia, please... please allow me to speak with you about everything. Let's go take a stroll down these woods, there's a beautiful lake up ahead that we can gaze at."

"But..." Nia looked over her shoulder at the resting blonde.

"He will be just fine," Akihiko lightly tugged on her wrist. "Please... lets just talk somewhere more private, beautiful."

"Beautiful...?" This made her blush as the older male nodded.

"Yes... I think you're incredibly beautiful, Miss Nia. Now, will you please let me speak with you?"

"S-Sure... it's the least I can do to make up for that time Naruto threw those gorgeous bouquet of roses you tried to give me in your face," Nia replied as Akihiko gently grasped her hand and helped her out of the window and onto the grass below. "I'm so sorry for his rudeness. I don't understand why he gets so upset when you're around."

"He's immature... and can't quite understand that of his own feelings."

"Huh? His own feelings? What do you mean?"

"What? You haven't caught on?" The prince kept ahold of her hand and began leading down a path.

"Caught on to what? That he hates you for no good reason?"

"You are just as oblivious as he is, oh heavens. Miss Nia... he clearly has feelings for you, my love."

"Eh?" Nia halted. "Feelings? What? No, he doesn't. He think I'm ugly... and probably fat too and the grossest person on this planet."

"You very much think badly of yourself, don't you?"

"...I don't think that terribly of myself. I'm just saying what I hear everyone around me say about me."

"I'm so disgusted by how others perceive you. So heartless and such poor taste. You are gorgeous, and yes... I do mean it when I say I believe that insensitive specimen asleep has a crush on you."

Nia shook her head. "No, that's pushing it. He likes Sakura, remember? I heard him fancying her in his sleep just moments ago. He... doesn't find me attractive in any way, shape, or form and never will. I've come to terms that... it's just impossible for any man to want to be with me no matter what I do or say. Even if I were to have the most perfect body, no one will still want me because of my face — which is something I just can't truly change unless... I receive a painful and extremely expensive operation... which is something I shouldn't have to do nor want to risk putting my health in danger..."

"Miss Nia, you already forgot that I just called you pretty," Akihiko reminded her, squeezing her hand. "And I still wish to have your hand in marriage and get you to give birth to my babies."

Again, Nia found herself gazing at the prince with rosy cheeks.

He's like... the only guy in the world who acknowledges me... he thinks... he really thinks I'm... pretty. This... is definitely the first time a guy has ever thought I was anything but hideous or fat or disgusting or something that should just die or should have never been born. I... I can't believe this...

"Hm? Have I made your heart skip a beat, Miss Nia?" Akihiko shot her a warm smile before giving her a wink also. "Your face is red."

"What? It is?" The girl rested her fingers on her face and turned away.

The prince let out a chuckle before resuming their conversation.

"Anyway, that blondie is very possessive of you. That night you were in the hospital after he incidentally hit you in the jaw in the midst of our brawl, he told me how he wouldn't allow any other man to touch you, to hold you, to flirt with you, nor be with you and if you showed interest in anybody else or if another man tried to take you away from him, he would beat them up. It was rather crazy if you ask me."

"Naruto's just protective of me cause he doesn't want me to get my feelings hurt. It has nothing to do with anything romantic."

"No, he's into you; It's as clear as day to me. He's jealous of me cause he knows your heart belongs to me. That I'm the one who causes you to feel good inside and that I'm the man who can provide you with every single one of your needs whether it's stability, sheltering, love, sex, or even good friends. I'm royalty and way beyond any man he can ever hope of becoming." The prince boldly stated.

Nia lowered her eyes.

"I've been trying to get him to acknowledge me for a long while now, but... I just... keep getting rejected and... I'm just sick of it."

She turned her body, facing the prince.

"You're right, Akihiko. I can't take him not noticing me romantically. You're the only guy on the planet whose ever expressed or shown attraction for me. You're the one who makes me feel good. I... I wish to go to your village!"

Meanwhile, back where Naruto was, a sudden urge for the bathroom had slowly woken him up. He sluggishly stood and dragged his feet across the room in search of a toilet, not even noticing Nia was no longer in the same room. Unfortunately for him, the bathroom would be much too far down the building from his room and because he knew he wouldn't make it there in time, he opted to just hopping out the window and taking his business outside instead.

"Ahhhhh," He had found a spot near some bushes where no one was around to scold him for peeing.

'Man, I'm tired,' He then yawned after he finished and buttoned his pants. "What time even is it?'

"I want to be held by someone," Nia's voice suddenly alerted him. "I hate being constantly rejected by every single person on the planet. I hate that I'm hated no matter what. Could you just... hold me close to you until the pain goes away? Please? I'll do anything."

'Huh?' The blonde looked around trying to find the kunoichi. 'What the hell is Curly Brow doing out here? It's too damn late for her to be adventuring around in the woods, is she crazy? Someone could attack her.'

"You know I'll do anything to make your heart feel at peace, my love," The sound of a man's voice quickly made Naruto's blood boil. "For I am the one who truly loves you and will do anything to make you happy."

"Akihiko," Nia couldn't refrain herself from being wrapped in his arms as he quickly pressed her closer to him while her face just kept getting redder and redder. "You're so kind and accepting of me. I feel like I could melt right now..."

"You make my heart swell with joy too, my dear queen. Our marriage will be absolutely magical and very much to your liking."

Akihiko's moment of bliss would soon be torn away when a certain someone found he and Nia.

"CURLY BROW!" Nia jumped at the sound of Naruto's voice and quickly moved away from the prince in fear.

"N-Naruto! W-What... I thought... you were asleep?!"

"Curly Brow, what the hell are you doing with this guy?!" The ninja took an angry step forward, only for Akihiko to step in front of Nia and spread his arms out protectively.

"She's had enough of you!" He said. "No longer will Miss Nia be going to your village! You can't provide for her in absolutely anything! She is mine to protect and cherish. She has agreed to be with me in the village hidden in the steam!"

"SHE WHAT?!" Naruto glanced over to the guilt-ridden girl whom was having a hard time making eye contact with him. "Curly Brow, what the hell is he talking about?!"

"..." The girl just avoided eye contact.

"CURLY BROW!" The genin demanded for an explanation. "Tell me what's going on NOW! Why're you sneaking out so late with this pervert?! I told you that you aren't allowed to be-"

"Quit telling me what I can and cannot do! You're not my dad!" Nia briefly stood up for herself, only to cover her mouth in her hands upon realizing what she had just said.

Hearing just how much the girl seemed to be annoyed with him through her tone, everything seemed to dawn onto Naruto all at once. That... she no longer wanted to be in his company and that... she chose Akihiko.

With a shake of his head, he turned back around, heading back to the inn from where he came.

"Uzumaki!" Nia couldn't bear the sight of him appearing sad and chased after him, leaving Akihiko behind, much to his annoyance.

Why? Why did she keep going back to him? Why did she keep having to overlook the prince in favor of a measly genin? It made no sense.

"Naruto, c'mon," Nia gently grabbed the genin's arm only for him to yank it away from her. "Why're you getting so upset?"

"Don't touch me," He told her, brushing away his arm from her. "Just take your stuff and go, Curly Brow. I'm done."

"Done with what? And go where?"

"It's obvious you don't wanna go to my village," His voice sounded hurt. "Take your stuff and travel with Aki-trash to his village so you can be with him, all right? I'm tired of having to fight for you to be with me in my village when that isn't what you truly desire. I'm not gonna force to come with me to the Leaf, so just go marry that pervert, ya know."

"But I don't wanna be without you," The girl admitted, gripping his sleeve.

Naruto gently removed her fingers off him.

"Don't," He said before walking forward with his head slightly down.

"Naruto stop," She then hugged him from behind.

"Curly Brow, let go."

"But what did I even do wrong? I didn't even do anything."

"You always flirt with him!" He suddenly looked over his shoulder and glared at her. "Every single time he comes running back, you constantly are just... you let him touch you, hold you or just- you know what you do, all right?"

"But I'm single. What do you expect? I'm gonna try to shoot my shot with any guy I find attractive and cross my fingers he finds me attractive too. You can't blame me for flirting with Akihiko when I'm presented an opportunity to do so without worrying about getting rejected."

The blonde only faced her and pulled down at her arms around him.

"I knew it," He groaned. "I knew you were attracted to that pervert!"

Nia frowned.

"Just cause I think he's hot doesn't mean I truly wanna be with him though..."

Naruto shook his head and facepalmed.

"I told you that no other guy is allowed to flirt with or touch you in any intimate way! I told you to come to me if you need a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or just anything physical or emotional, ya know!"

Nia rolled her eyes.

"Why're you always getting so upset with me when you like Sakura?" She threw at him. "You never consider how I feel when you talk about how pretty she is, so why should I care about you getting mad over me flirting with Akihiko? A girl's gotta do what she's gotta do if she's not getting enough attention from someone."

"What's that even mean, Curly Brow?"

"Like, you don't pay attention to me, Naruto. And because you don't give me your attention, I feel the need to go seek for attention from someone else."

"I do pay attention to you," He replied.

"No... you pay attention to me, but you don't pay special attention to me," The girl clarified. "You don't give me the attention that makes me feel like a woman or attractive. I feel like a potato around you... and a kid who hasn't gone through puberty yet."

"Huh? A potato?" He didn't understand.

Nia inwardly sighed.

"Listen... I'm just trying to say that I am tired of having you not look at me the way I look at you. I hate how you keep talking about Sakura's beauty when I'm trying to shoot my shot with you. I'm tired of trying with you, and getting nowhere each and every time. I can take a hint... I don't have feelings for Akihiko, but if I can't get a shot with you, I'm just gonna go give him a chance instead."

Naruto raised an eyebrow. "I don't understand what you're trying to tell me, ya know... shoot your shot with me? What?"

The kunoichi sweatdropped.

Like I'm trying to get with you, Naruto! Geesh, you're oblivious...

"You know..." She forced herself to gently run her hand down his arm and smile at him. "Like... be under your arm and stuff... that sorta thing."

"Why're you touching me like that?" He moved his arm away.

Annoyed by his oblivious nature, Nia heavily sighed then facepalmed.

"I'm trying to say I think you're handsome..." She admitted.

Delighted to hear that, Naruto grinned sheepishly and pointed at himself.

"You think I'm handsome?" He gasped, not expecting to ever hear that from her.

"Yessss, I think you're handsome. Like, I really, really, REALLY think you're handsome. I'm extremely attracted to you."

"O-Oh..." He slightly reddened and scratched his cheek.

Seeing how flustered he seemed to be because of what she said, Nia lowered her eyes and blushed as well.

"A-Anyway," She stumbled her words but wanted to continue on with the conversation. "I just... even though I enjoyed the time I spent with you and Jiraiya-sensei and while I do appreciate you guys' offer of friendship and assistance in helping me to improve my ninjutsu... This whole situation that's been going on between you and I... lately... I have started to have second thoughts on leaving with you."

"W-Wait," The genin quickly rested his hand at the small of her back. "What I said earlier... I was just overreacting. I don't want you to actually to leave off with Akihiko."

"Yeah, well... I feel it's already too late for you to be taking back what you said..." The girl said.

"Curly Brow, c'mon! Don't be like that. I didn't mean it, I swear."

Nia crossed her arms.

"Naruto, I do care for you and all and I understand that sometimes you say things you don't truly mean, but honestly... my eyes are opening to the fact that... you're just... not attracted to me and... I shouldn't have to try so hard to get a guy I like to look at me. I wanna be with someone who naturally finds me beautiful and pretty when they first look at me or like if we talk and I start to grow on them. I don't wanna be with a guy where he has zero attraction for me no matter what I say and do and I don't wanna be with someone whom I find it difficult to get their attention. I shouldn't have to put in a ridiculous amount of effort with a guy to the point of exhaustion. It's just not right."

"?" Still the genin was bewildered.

What was she trying to get at? Why did what she was saying sounded like something romantic was going on between them? Didn't she want to go to the Leaf in hopes of being around more kind and accepting people? Why did she seem so focused on lovey-dovey things instead?

"I guess what I'm trying to say is... I've come to terms with myself that I wish to leave with Akihiko cause he promised I'd live a peaceful life free of drama in his village also and, unlike you, is attracted to me. I can't stop thinking about the way he looks at me. I feel so beautiful when he comes around and when he won't stop telling me how gorgeous he finds me, I just completely melt. I just feel so much like a woman and that I don't have to try so hard to earn his attention cause he already can't help but to admire me. That's what I want from a guy... to have him chase after me and absolutely love looking at me and showering me with his attention, love, and appreciation."

"So you want to leave with him cause he gives you attention?" The blonde was annoyed.

Nia wasted no time with answering, "He makes me feel good — you don't and it's because you don't think I'm pretty. I'm sorry, but friendship isn't what I'm looking for. I want romance, love, and want to take steps into finding my one and only then have babies with him and die together with that special guy. That's one of my goals in life."

"You don't care about our friendship?!"

"Of course I do! I'm just saying I care more about having a nice boyfriend than having a friend. Naruto, I'm not interested in being just friends with you and going to your village while being in the friend zone forever when I can go to another guy's village who wishes to be with me and whom I have a mutual attraction with that promised me the exact same things, no, even a better life style than you promised."

"Curly Brow, are you serious?"

The girl shrugged like what she was saying was a no brainer.

"Of course I'm being serious. I'm tired of not being enough to you. This whole being just your friend and hearing you express you attraction for Sakura 24/7 thing just isn't cutting it for me anymore. It's time for me to leave with the guy who keeps coming back to me in the hopes of convincing me to be with him cause he desires me so much. It's cute that Akihiko is so persistent. I feel so adored... it's incredible. I never had a guy ever chase after me the way he has — I'm always doing the chasing when the guy is supposed to do most of the pursuing in my honest opinion. I feel so desired... my goodness, it feels good."

The blonde gave her a disapproving expression. "Curly Brow, you barely know this guy! Why would you leave off with a stranger?"

"Well, you and Jiraiya-sensei were strangers and I still left with you guys..."

"Just cause Pervy Sage and I are good people, doesn't mean Akihiko will be once you two are alone with no one in sight."

"Naruto, would you cut it out? Akihiko isn't very strong and lacks fighting experience. I can handle myself just fine if he tries something, all right?"

"Even the weakest person on the planet can find a way to take down someone strong if they use their head, ya know."

Moments later, Naruto would come to realize Nia wasn't completely listening to him as he noticed her eyes darted to the right and lingered in that direction as she tugged some hair behind her ear and smiled at whatever was distracting her from him.

When he turned to see what it was that was keeping her from staying engaged in their conversation, his blood boiled at the sight of the very person he was having issues with — Akihiko, who smirked and wiggled his eyebrows upon making eye contact with the girl from a distance.

"UGH! WOULD YOU QUIT LETTING THIS GUY GET TO YOU?!" He snapped, cupping Nia's face and forcefully turning it so she was once more facing him and only him. "Dammit! Quit being so stupid, Curly Brow! This guy doesn't want to really be with you! He just wants to bang and leave you!"

"Don't freaking touch me!" The kunoichi pushed down at his wrists, a scowl forming on her face. "Seriously Naruto, what I do with Akihiko doesn't involve you. Mind you own business and keep dreaming of your precious pretty Sakura! I have no place in your heart and you know it so stop trying to tell me I'm not allowed to show affection for another guy when you don't even want to hold me! You can be such a hypocrite sometimes, I swear!"

"But you're not telling me exactly why it is you don't wanna go to my village! Did I hurt your feelings or something?! What did I do specifically that makes you not want to follow me home?"

"You really wanna know the reason?"

"Yeah."

Nia took a deep breath before revealing hesitantly, "It's because... you don't... have feelings for me, Naruto. You don't like me."

"Huh? What're you saying? I do like you — you're my fri-"

"No, stop saying that word," Nia fought the urge to groan and roll her eyes. "I'm not saying I want you to like me on a friendly level. Listen... talking friendly with you isn't enough for me anymore, just receiving hugs isn't enough, daydreaming about you isn't enough, just being your friend in general isn't enough for me... I need more than that... I want more than that."

"I... don't understand... what's wrong with being my friend?"

"There's nothing wrong with being your friend, but being just your friend, no... I'm not on board with that. I'm not okay with it. That... that ain't it."

"And why not?" The genin frowned.

"Haaah, you're extremely clueless, aren't you?" Nia facepalmed.

"Quit being so vague and just tell me what you mean already. You act like I can read your mind or something."

"Naruto, I have feelings for you, okay?" The girl confessed, gazing him directly in the eyes. "Like, I have very strong feelings for you that's been building up ever since that day you saved me from that crazy chakra sapping cave."

"W-Wait..." The look in her eyes was beginning to dawn on Naruto about what she was trying to tell him.

"I'm done trying to get you to acknowledge the way I feel. I'm sick of you ignoring and rejecting me romantically. Friendship is cool and all, but it isn't what I'm looking for the most. And to second that, I'm not an option. You like Sakura, so stop trying to string me along into going to the Leaf with you when I can have the benefit of friends and a boyfriend if I go with Akihiko."

"Hold on, but I'm just finding out about your feelings now!" The blonde argued. "I didn't know you like me, like me. At least that's why you're saying right? That you like me in the way where you wanna go on a date?"

Awkwardly, Nia fidgeted and rubbed her hands together anxiously.

"Well yeah," She mumbled, momentarily darting her eyes to the ground. "But it's obvious you think I'm ugly, so-"

"I never said that," Naruto interjected. "Quit putting words in my mouth, ya know."

"You don't need to say it in order for me to know, Naruto. I can just tell you don't think I'm pretty and that's fine, it's whatever... I'll just go find someone who does think I'm pretty."

"And how do you know that if I never told you whether or not I think you're cute?"

"Because you don't pay any attention to me, duuuh. You don't look my way, you don't smile at me, you don't compliment me, you don't touch m- wait..." The girl had an epiphany.

Naruto folded his arms.

"Curly Brow, I understand that you're still traumatized from all the suffering you had to go through in the Cloud and that you've had it hard. I totally get what it's like to long for someone to praise and acknowledge you — to be recognized in a positive light, but just because you wish for comfort and love and acceptance doesn't mean you should be jumping in the arms of the first guy who calls you pretty. Have some self worth already —some self respect and quit letting everyone define you and make you believe horrible things about yourself. Seriously, quit getting scared of the future — he's not the only guy on the planet who'll find you pretty, so stop with the panicking and desperation, ya know."

"I'm not desperate!" Nia lashed out.

"You are desperate."

"I'm just annoyed that you refuse to acknowledge me! That's the only reason I keep letting Akihiko woo me. Because you won't pay attention to me and I'm sick of it. I'm not entitled to your love, but it's not right for you to keep me prisoner with you over some damn friendship! No more, Naruto! No more am I just gonna act like I don't have a problem with you rejecting me in favor of Sakura! If you really wanna keep being friends, visit me at Akihiko's village!"

With that, Nia groaned and turned away, folding her arms as she stomped in the direction of where the prince was waiting for her. However, when the ninja tried to gently yank her back to him, the girl completely snapped.

"DAMMIT, QUIT TOUCHING ME!" She hollered at the top of her lungs, swinging her arm away from Naruto. "I'M DONE BEING REJECTED BY YOU! LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE! HE TERMINADO CON ESTA MIERDA! YA HE TERMINADO CONTIGO!"

"What the hell?!" Naruto gasped. "You can speak another language!"

"Solo mantente alejado de mi," Tears welled up in the girl's eyes as she once more turned away from the genin. "Nunca me alabarás ni tendrás sentimientos por mí. Estoy cansado de intentarlo. Adíos, Naruto..."

"Wait-"

The blonde could only watch as Nia kept walking away from him.

"You just don't understand, Naruto! I run to Akihiko cause you refuse to acknowledge me! My feelings are constantly being ignored and rejected by you and it's obviously just cause you think I'm hideous and I'm sick of it! I've had enough! I'm tired of feeling like a potato and a kid who's never been through puberty yet around you!" Her words began to repeat itself in the young man's mind.

"Talking friendly with you isn't enough for me anymore, just receiving hugs isn't enough, daydreaming about you isn't enough, just being your friend in general isn't enough for me... I need more than that... I want more than that."

"No longer will Miss Nia be going to your village! You can't provide for her in absolutely anything! She is mine to protect and cherish. She has agreed to be with me in the village hidden in the steam!" Akihiko's voice ran through his mind next.

"I'm the one that makes her feel good — that makes her feel like a woman. You just keep your eyes on that Sakura chick you and Miss Nia keep mentioning."

"You don't acknowledge her... so of course she'll come home with me..."

"Curly Brow!" The blonde yelled out, reaching to once more grab the girl's arm.

However, the girl seemed to be unreachable to him at that moment as her strides made her closer and closer to the prince and further and further away from himself.

Had she really chose... Akihiko?
