Chapter XLI: Knights of the Universe
Percy looked all around Beach City, before stopping at Fish Stew Pizza.
The girl behind the counter seemed to be tired and out of it. "Welcome to Fish Stew Pizza, I'm Jenny, what kinda pizza ya want?" she asked somewhat impatiently. Percy told him who he wanted to see, and Jenny pointed him where he needed to go.
Percy also ordered a large pepperoni pizza to go so he had something to eat while he was walking, and left with a salute.
Percy eventually found who he was looking for.
Greg turned around and dropped his hose. "P-Percy?" he said. Percy wrapped his arms around Greg. "How ya been, old-timer!" he laughed.
"I could say the same thing about you, Mr. Rogaine!" Greg laughed before they let go of one-another. "I see you changed your van after I left!" Percy said, pointing at the paintjob, namely the "Mr. Universe" on the sides.
"Well, admittedly, being a one-man band is hard...especially when you have no beat" Greg said. Just then, Steven approached the car wash. "Dad, you know him?" he asked.
"Yeah. Steven, this is Percival Light, He was in my band." Greg said.
"But I thought you were a one-man band?" he said, concerned. "Aside from Marty, of course..."
"He wasn't always 'Mr. Universe,' bud," Percy clarified "Before he came to Beach City, we were known as 'Knights of the Universe,'" Percy said. "And by God, we were the best high school band there was...If only my nerdy brother could appreciate good music. Your dad had the best guitar and best singing voice, so he was the lead."
"Who's your brother?" Steven asked.
"Ah, I'll tell you later." Percy said, "Best not think of him, makes me mad! Anyway, we won the Battle of the Bands...multiple times!"
"We were so good, we even continued after high school. We even had a girl on keys." said Greg.
"That girl...eventually became my wife" Percy added.
"Was that what drove you all apart?" Steven asked.
"Well, no. It was two things, bud. None of 'em had to do with your Dad. First, my wife was pregnant with Robert, and it's really hard to raise a kid while you're barely making enough money to pay for gas." He said.
"And the other?" Steven asked.
Percy took a breath. "Remember on TV how they showed the attacks on the twin towers every year?" He asked.
Steven recalled watching it when he was eleven while the Gems were away, He recalled asking Greg about it and his reaction.
"I joined the army that day. I figured that my sacrifice would prevent him and his siblings from living in a dystopian future..." he said.
"When he left, I tried finding someone to help me set up for my band. I knew I couldn't fight in the army. I mean, look at me!" Greg said. "That someone was Marty, and the rest is history."
(AUTHOR'S NOTE: Refer to the episode "Story for Steven" if you want to know the rest.)
Steven went back home to find Amethyst sitting on the couch, looking somewhat down. "Hey, Amethyst. What's wrong?" He asked.
"I want to know where Ivy is. She's the only one who knows why I have this power...and How I can find the rest." she explained.
As if on cue, Peridot appeared on the Warp pad.
"Amethyst! I have pinpointed Ivy's location!" She said. "She is currently in the town of Giza, Egypt." she said.
"Didn't they say that's where the next melody is?" Steven asked.
"If that's the case, shouldn't we take Robert and Michael?" Peridot asked.
"Michael did say he had ice powers..." Steven said.
"And Robert could light the dark areas of the pyramids with his pyrokinesis." Peridot added.
"When do we leave?" Amethyst said.
"When you are ready, I will make the best efforts to be there on time" Peridot said, as she warped off to the barn.
To be continued...
QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER: Should I have a chapter where Robert and Michael try to be normal? Or should we skip ahead to them going to Giza?
